I love this video!! As a marketing consultant for brands, I LOVE it when influencers, bloggers or just normal people make videos like this that showcase the everyday struggles of either working for yourself or growing a brand from the ground up. Basically you didn't tell us about any of the work that a digital marketer does. Halfway through the video you're just getting to answering your emails in the morning! This offered no help to someone looking to find out more about what a digital marketer does

so glad i viewed this view. i just received a message for social media marketing position. my main interests is a social media coordinator although in school we learned many different things so its kind of challenge to understand different positions and what they qualify for, coordinating is really an eyecatcher for me but i tend to doubt myself i want to be good at what i do most definitely. your confidence definitely boosted me.

If you’re going into digital marketing forget college. Google constantly changes its policies for what helps a site rank. Facebook is constantly changing its algorithm (the iOS 14 update really stirred things up in terms of retargeting.) by the time you finish your four year degree most of the information will be outdated.
It helps me so much because now in high school I feel a bit uninterested about marketing but this video gave lots of motivation

If someone was looking to make a career change into digital marketing in terms to creating, making, running campaigns for clients to generate leads for sales people to close, what or how should they prepare? If that someone has more than 8 years in consulting in financial services with a bachelors in finance. (After reading the comments, I realized that other people have already asked my question and you answered them. Which is to get certifications in marketing and try to get entry level positions to gain experience. Thank you so much for making your video! )
So good to see another soul who uses paper planners - I used to be that person too! Until I found out about Hive and started using it to plan my day, manage my projects and also sending intake forms to clients, and collaborating with team members. This tool was life-changing for me because every so often I would forget something on my paper planer or waste time moving things around - rewriting due dates or rescheduling meetings or searching for my notes. Are you still using paper planner? If you ever want to try another type of organizer I would say to give Hive a try.

@@yyaksok5039 I am fashion marketing major which happens to include communications and marketing so I am qualified to pick any internship in that realm. I would suggest looking through your contacts or talking to a professor, also companies usually have a career page and will have some posted sometimes. Otherwise, try to get the HR team's contact info.

Do you think that it is a good idea to have a remote internship as a first experience? I personally think it's better to start working not remotely.
Hi! I definitely agree, personally I am a hands on person that learns best by trying things out with the help of others, so I think an in person internship would be best. Although due to the way things are going with remote work it would be helpful to try out one internship that does do remote work to get a feel for it to see if you like that kind of environment. As for types of internship I would recommend getting an internship for a nonprofit company. Since most of the time their marketing team will be smaller it allows you to get one on one learning and experience and also the ability to learn a lot of useful skill sets! I am working in one of the biggest digital agencies in Europe. Me and my college run Social media ads, financing, Google ads, planning, influencers, invoicing, Direct media buy, native projects, PR articles for over 50 clients. That is some Crazy work atmosphere and in the same time so much joy and laughter that it is unbelieveble. Anyway we are among the top 1% in Europe regarding work pressure and quantity of tasks on single person- but that is why we are the best.

I taught in the education industry for about 10 years and I have a masters in Human Services along with volunteer experience in Human Resources and Civilian Personnel Advisory Center. However, I feel like I want to do something operational similar to what is done in Marketing. I am like you in being a visual person. I learn by seeing and will write down everything. Have to have my to do list written down. Just wondering if it is possible to transfer into the Marketing industry with my background? So communicating between the newsletters team & graphic designers...was there anything else that you do...? Like do you coordinate marketing schedules, manage social media campaigns, customer outreach, EDM designs, analytics analysis/recommendations, etc? It would have been great to see more of your actual responsibilities rather than "I tell the graphics designers to make our banners/promotions and then give it to the newsletter team to send off xD"

Hi! I would recommend taking classes that involve basic coding (for email purposes), SEO optimization, and PPC campaign classes! If I knew about those things when I was in college that would've really helped me out. Hope this helped, goodluck 🎉

Hi, thank you! I would say being Google Ads certified and Google SEO certified, and knowing about email campaigns will definitely give you a leg up in the Marketing field.

Is math really an essential part of marketing? I took pre-calc this semester and was so miserable I ended up with drawling in the class. So im worried about going to this field as I can't do any form of calculus without feeling zoned out from it. :T
Hi! So I had the exact same experience! I took calculus 3 times and could not pass so I turned to Public Relations instead and I was still able to get a job in Marketing 😊 If you are struggling with math PR maybe another option for you!

Thank you! When I first begun they did explain what I would be doing and they were very helpful if I had any questions. And no most digital marketing jobs can be worked remotely. Unfortunately at this time our company doesn’t allow us to work remotely.

Hey is it worth going to college for a marketing degree to be a digital marketing specialist? I hear that most schools don’t really teach online marketing like with social media, and it seems like they are stuck in the early 2000’s? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have a dilemma and would like to hear your input if it isn’t any trouble. (I’ll try to keep it short so it doesn’t feel like work😅)
The university I’m applying to has two marketing programs. One is a communications degree, other is business economy degree.
The communications one teaches a lot of the creative aspects that drew me to marketing in the first place collaborative projects, graphic design. Aswell as professional writing and communication. Which I feel is an important real word skill. But
It lacks any economy or analysis class.
The marketing economy programme on the other hand, lacks all the creative parts nor does it have professional writing. But a lot of economics, data and analysis.
The communications degree seems to teach the skills most useful for the positions I want to apply for (PR, working with graphics on a campaign) Still I know the analysis is a big part of any marketing position.
Basically my question is, how much would the lack of analysis and economy matter for those types of positions, Would the communications degree seem unserious to employers.
End of the day it’s working in marketing that I’m after, so you can answer honest.
Wow I failed massively to keep it short. Don’t feel the need to read it. Honestly would be lucky if there is a reply.

Really interested in this career path... any recommendation for a certain type of degree? Like just marketing in general? Curious as to what kind of degree you have or if a degree is even necessary.
If you build up a series of side projects for yourself, your degree won't really matter all that much. DM is a space where good DMs are often those that don't even study marketing, but instead study things like psychology and philosophy.

Hey Natalia, seen this comment thought I’d reply as I was in your world for a while. I was making content for close to 150 accounts until moving on to managing 600 social media accounts and UX/web development. What programs do you enjoy using? CANVA or Adobe? With your aspects on such mass teamwork, I highly agree. Although, I work remotely and I would enjoy working at an office with my team. All in all it was a great video but I do believe learning web development and UX would make any newcomers value as a DMS much higher than anyone just familiar with content creation and ads.

Hi! I completely understand, those job descriptions can seem very intimidating. I feel that sometimes companies will put more than what is expected on the job descriptions. It doesn't hurt to still apply to those jobs that you see if you truly feel like you can either learn the skill or have little experience in it. Then when you land the interview be sure to ask lots of questions to see if it something you feel comfortable taking on! Best of luck!

Background: I am currently a business management student looking for a low-stress job I don't mind if is straight-forward but time-consuming.
I would say my job is moderate in difficulty, I can be tedious some times but overall easy to grasp and moderately low stress!

Thank you! I would recommend having experience or taking an online course about SEO, SEM, and Google AdSense. These are greatly used in many companies and usually companies require that you are familiar with them. I hope this helps!

Hi! I'm not as experienced with online certifications for marketing, the only free ones I can recommend is HubSpot Academy, but I'm not quite sure of any other recognizable online marketing certifications.
Do a search for certifications. I think the Google and Facebook ones are free. There are others that are paid.
I’m a senior and my choices for college are basically community. Something like this would be sufficient for me and being on the computer is easy for me to an extent, I like being hands on at times though. All in all I’m just confused and don’t know what career to choose :(
I understand it can be overwhelming, but I did community for 2 years then transferred to a university, maybe look into doing something similar :)

Hi! Some advice is to apply to as many places that interest you as possible, even though a place may not seem to be your dream job it can still offer valuable experience that can help you get to your dream job or closer to it. Also make sure that even though you just graduated to keep learning, whether it be free online courses or books, it always helps. And lastly make sure your resume stands out, is as up to date as possible and make sure it includes anything that is relevant to the position you are applying for even if that means making different versions of your resume to be the most appealing candidate for the job. Now in these days, I don't know how it came to my mind but I am interested in digital marketing. can I take digital marketing after BA English? Would I need to study MBA for it or business marketing or communication after that? Can you please suggest me? What all are the skills to be needed for this.

I would recommend trying to get a job that will get you lots of experience, starting with a Marketing Agency or even a PR agency is an amazing first job because it provides you with lots of experience in all areas and it is very hands on. I would recommend keeping up with the skills you have learned in school by continuing your education on line through courses like HubSpot Academy that are free, in the meantime while you are searching for a job ☺️ Hope this helps!
