Doug I've been saw the show my suggestion is move heaven and earth but don't miss this show its probably the last time David will play live and its something you will never ever forget I know I won't
I wasn't able to get to the official tour shows this month, but I was lucky to get a ticket for the full dress rehearsal in the Brighton Centre, England, UK, on 20th September. Needless to say it was great.
My wife and I are travelling from the UK to see him in Rome next Thursday. It is likely to be his last tour so could not miss out. Enjoy the gig and have a cool trip.
I flew to Rome from Austria, had tickets for Saturday and listened a bit to the first gig from the distance on Friday. Enjoy the experience, it was truly amazing. David sounded better on Saturday, I imagine the rust is getting played of bit by bit. Great mix of Floyd and his solo songs. Also, the atmosphere at Circo Massimo is incredible. 10/10
I thought I’d be playing music with my best friend until we’d both be old and gray. That was untin he suddenly got sick and died, back in 2022. Cherish David Gilmour. And Peter Gabriel. And Pat Metheny. And all those others who won’t be around forever. You never know which Christmas tree turns out to be your last.
Romany on Between Two Points is just a work of tremendous love, sweetness and seeing her with David fills me with enormous joy. Check the live rehearsal version, its just a dream.
There is a video of the two turning up to an open mic session at the local pub. They had acoustic guitars. She asked her dad who’s going to play lead? He said….why not you. She played the opening to Wish you where Here, and it sounded exactly how her father does it.
This is a fantastic album. The musicianship is top notch and i absolutely love the recording and mastering on Luck and Strange. I love that groove. I got into vinyl earlier this year and I'm so happy to own this LP. Shout out to Meddle and DSOTM in the background.
@@musicferret1829Steve Gadd did not play at Brighton, nor will he be playing on the rest of the tour (Adam Betts is the drummer with David's touring band for this tour).
I love Breathe and Time! And the new music from Luck and Strange is very good too. It is extremely nice to see and hear David and Rick playing together. One of the most underrated duos in music. Together, they brought the lyrics to life!
Got my tix for the 10/25/24 show here in CA. Cant wait. Seen PF before back in the day but 1st time seeing DG. Probably will be his last tour. He's getting up there in age for sure, sadly. GOAT guitarist
The album is great! And knowing that Gilmour will soon be 80(!) years old, he still sings it really nicely. The song Luck and Strange shows how well David and Rick complemented each other and what friends they were.
Thank You Doug for this video!!! It was a pleasure again to listen to you and of course to David`s music. I‘m so happy to see him in two weeks in London at the Royal Albert Hall!! The whole album is superb, very tastefull and „Scattered“ is a real masterpiece… Best wishes from Germany
Like everyone , they were locked up for covid. She couldn’t go to School. So he and her just played the time away. That’s when he realised how well she could sing.
Not sure where you’re located Doug, but they will be playing a bunch of US dates: one at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, several at the Hollywood Bowl and several at Madison Square Garden. I REALLY REALLY want to go to one at either Inglewood or the Hollywood Bowl but I live up in Washington and don’t have anyone to go with. So…unless I can find someone willing to fly down with me and stay a night or two, I’ll have to miss out and hope they make a DVD of the show.
Hi Doug Dave from the UK I have been a Pink Floyd fan since 1973 . I have been to many Pink Floyd concerts, My first was at Earls Court in London to see the wall, There were so many things happening in that concert i thought i will have to see them again well as i have mentioned i did. It is my 70th Birthday this year and my family have been asking what do you want for your birthday present (normally i say just buy me some socks and boxer shorts) well this evening i got an early birthday surprise, Both my daughters , partners, and grandchildren came to my home and surprised me with an early present. A Ticket to go and see David play at Earls Court London in two weeks time best present ever
Seeing and hearing Rick just makes me smile - warms my heart to see Dave and Rick together "again". Beautiful album - thanks to David for treating us again.
I bought that albums a soon as it became available and find it to be something of a slow burn that gets better with every listen. The rehearsal footage was wonderful; Romany's voice draws you in and makes you want to stay a while. The band sound great and David is playing well, but his voice does appear to be suffering from the effects of age, yet he's still as passionate as ever.
Doug. Love the way you improved piano on Between 2 Points - the standout track for me - the most beautiful piece of music (Mongolfian brothers wrote the original, but this arrangement is sublime) Romany is sensational. David the usual guitar God that he is. Really enjoyed your reaction.
Great review, Im still waiting my box set to arrive so I can make my review. I would say this record is a contender for album of the year, at least top 3 for sure.
I saw Pink Floyd During the Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour in Sacramento Ca 1988. This rehearsal is awesome. The sound and feel remind me of that show in 88
You can hear it in the studio recording but after watching the live footage, it was heartbreaking to hear that his singing voice has finally slipped away. 😥
@@Govinda-us1wf I truly wish that was the reason but I noticed that he was struggling at his Pompeii show on Blu-Ray and thought, "He should make this his last concert". Even his guitar playing seemed to be a little sloppy. Had me a littler shocked actually. Hey. I LOVE David Gilmour. He's the guy that got me into playing guitar 35 years ago and there's nothing I love more than strumming away while singing a Dave tune. But the reality is these people we idolize are not gods. They're human and eventually their bodies break down just like the rest of us. I'm only 50 and can't quite sing like I used to so hats off to him for making it this far. But the shows will pop up on RUclips and I'll probably watch one out of curiosity knowing that it will probably be his last tour. But I'm also expecting a lackluster performance... and from a guy who's approaching 80 it's to be expected. At least he's not lip-syncing like Roger. It's from the heart. Cheers.
I found out about this album quite by accident, seeing an interview of Dave pop up on the news feed. It dropped a couple of days later, and I found myself playing it nonstop for about a week. What a joy to hear one of the greats gift us something so beautiful, and right out of left field too!❤😮😊
Way back around the time The Wall was released, my older brother told me that bands would get so big that if/when they decided to tour, they would only touch down in LA & NY. Glance at Gilmour's tour dates to see the prophet my brother came to be
“Between Two Points” is a cover of a 1999 song by The Montgolfier Brothers. David was working on the song at home during the pandemic when everything was in lockdown, and Romany happened to be home from university. She was busy trying to finish a paper as she was going back to school later that day, and David had been pestering her to try a vocal before she left. She finally said, “fine, I’ll sing it one time,” and about 90% of that first take is what’s on the record.
Going to one of his New York shows with my sister, a lifelong dream for us to both see him play. They played some rehearsal shows in England-not sure if they were these-but they had an audience and only charged $35 for admission.
I got the album on pre order blu ray, listened to it 3 times already, it is an incredible piece of work, Such a joy to hear Rick again. 10/10 to me. Love it so much already
Wow, this was just wonderful! One of my favourites ever from Sir Doug. Not least, seeing how much HE enjoyed it! SO uplifting! If anyone ever wonders why this is probably the best music channel on YT, just watch this. LOVED it!!!
i see you’re wearing a Big Big Train shirt for this… well let me connect you: playing guitar in David’s band for this tour is Ben Worsley, son of Spike Worsley who was one of the Train’s biggest & earliest fans. Sadly, he passed way too early only a few years back . He was a massive Prog fan - & so much more than just a fan - & would have been so proud to see Ben up there alongside David. All the Passengers are routing for him 🙌🏼 🚂🚋🚋🚋🚋 (& another release this month is BBT’s live album ‘A flare on the lens’ - the first live album to feature the new line up, with Alberto Brevin on vox)
I was lucky enough to see this live streamed, and I had that same look when Between Two Points started. What an amazing sound. These guys are all on point still
‘where are they’ you ask - the King Alfred Leisure Centre, Hove, East Sussex I believe was where they held the rehearsals. - right on the sea front not far from David’s house in Hove (tho I thought I heard he’d sold it? Maybe he changed his mind 🤷🏻♂️) As you can tell from the lighting rings it’s a pretty old fashioned kinda place, right on the sea front in Hove. & another short hop from the Brighton Centre where he played the rehearsal gigs, which I was lucky enough to attend on the Friday. It’s just up the coast from me - David & I are neighbours 😉😂
Amazing. On an Island was a gift from a friend and it made me want to play guitar again. Loved Rattle That Lock. Saw them live in Toronto..But Seeing Sir Richard made me cry. And I agree with Doug. I could listen to Romany sing all day! Great, soulful music is not dead.
