wakana's voice for me perfecly captures the idea of the sublime, hers is my favourite singing to listen to I wish I could meet her and tell her how beautiful her voice is and how deeply it penerates the soul
the way you can tell she's trying to compose herself while she sings.. you can see her eyes literally tearing up and you can hear small hints of her voice starting to crack a tinnnyy bit with such emotion. ;-; so absolutely beautiful and heart rending
Eight years back since first performance, but still one of the best performances ever made. If I should choose one song and one performance as the best of the whole decade 2010-2019 this would be it.
Whenever I hear this, I always feel like Wakana should sing it instead of Tanaka Rie. She sings like she's drowned in pain, but still trying to bring peace and hope. Perfect for war-themed anime like Gundam Seed.
I definitely agree that Wakana fits the MOOD of this song but it does not fit Lacus's image. Rie Tanaka's voice fits Lacus's image. ... Don't kill me....
@@louisal.6735 it might be their intention, like, "just imagine what is the song's emotion, don't be too focused on the anime character -- because we are not showing this in anime convention, and not all audience know who is Lacus," things like that, and gave the singers more freedom to interpret the song :D (it is even more clearer in Synchronicity, haha)
When I hear this song I remembered Athrun's sadness. Gundam Seed sound tracks are master pieces and it is a great drama. Without these things Gundam is just a cool robot shows like transformers. Gundam Seed is not about robot fights so the hater is probably just looking for robot fights not drama
Wakana captures more of the song’s essence by virtue of her voice, but Rie’s will always be the one I think of when the pink hair princess is on screen
Absolutely they're both very good and powerful singer. Wakana have a deeper singing voice while Rie sang it with a more of a gentle voice which is really emotional
your comment made me listen to the rie tanaka's version and i completely agree with you. the music arrangement of tanaka's version suits her gentle voice completely and it brought tears to my eyes. wakana's version is deep and powerful and blatantly attacks your very soul which makes you feel more melancholic than tearful.
ruclips.net/video/C_2tQCmxW4c/видео.html Here's Rie's for context. Rie has much more dynamic variation that Wakana in her singing and more easily communicates gentleness/tenderness I think. People have said it fits the anime character more (since she's also the voice actor). Wakana has that unique dense tone and uses cry effects and her vibrato to communicate emotion more than dynamic variation (she takes the mic away a couple of times to try and bring that in). Overall her version makes the song less hopeful (tonally not lyrically)but rather more sad/mournful (which is due to her natural timbre I guess).
Majority of my playlist are fictionJunction tracks and some yuki kajiura OST the first time i heard them singing i cant gt enough with them. it was a real hook for me i will definitely see all the future songs from them.*O*
Wow! Wakana sings the song better than Rie Tanaka. The ways they sang the song is different. Wakana - the feeling of light sadness , Tanaka - the feeling of innocent and pure, and joyful. I prefer Wakana one, more suitable for the background music.
kiramino looooooooooooooooooool oh my goodness, actually comparing wakana's performance to rie's is an insult because there is nothing to be compared, the song comes to life with wakana, tanaka's singing is dreadful
I don't think she sang it better. She sang it different. The song was written as a anime character/scenario piece and Rie sings it appropriately. She also has way more dynamic variation in her voice (Wakana had to move the mic away from her mouth to have that quieter effect since her voice is more dense the way she uses it). I would actually say Hikaru or maybe Keiko would probably sing it closer to Rie (and hence closer to the character depiction) in the same range. The way the song is approached is important. If one comes to it wanting to emphasize the sadness and heaviness, it would influence how they would vocalize the song.
I was at work when this song came out of nowhere in my random playlist... I was helpless hearing this, I had to stop everything I was doing to hear this. This song is trully something else.
That's a great idea. Wakana has always wanted to sing Studio Ghibli and other classics and she's doing that now.
in reality.. she has a strong voice about this song, really chills me down my spine. but in GSD i prefer Rie Tanaka aka lacus, he sang it there with a meaning of sadness and sorrow that will suffocate your heart till it melts down through your soul.

In my opinion the difference between Wakana and Rie's version of this song is Rie's version is in character with Lacus Clyne, it basically gives you the gentleness, and suffering of Lacus Clyne and everyone else yet somehow shows the glimmer of hope at the middle to the end part of the song which is how Lacus Clyne is really portrayed, a gentle princess that gives hope to all, meanwhile Wakana's version is more of a sorrowful, and painful version of the song. I think Rie's version fits more with the anime than Wakana's version due to how she portrayed Lacus Clyne's attitude in the song.
I love the "glimmer of hope" description. You nailed it. I feel the same about Rie's version (which I love so much). It is sorrowful but there is something soothing and hopeful about it that I sometimes use it as a meditation music when things are difficult but I need to keep going :)
ruclips.net/video/C_2tQCmxW4c/видео.html I went back to watch this and I see your point. Rie had more dynamic/loudness variation starting from the first note, building the volume and going back down to quietness. There was also the natural tenderness in her voice. I haven't seen the anime but I noticed that. Wakana tends to sing with almost the same volume level for most of her singing. She tends to use moving the mic away from her mouth as the way to get that trailing effect of a wide dynamic difference. She also uses vocal fry more and of course has that vibrato/tremolo she uses. I actually feel that Keiko would probably sing closer to Rie's version that Wakana could.
FictionJunction is her other group, which came before she created Kalafina and at which concerts she always appears on stage with the songstresses and other musicians. :)
I simply love Wakana's voice. Both her and Tanaka Rie have their own strengths and charms with regards to the song. I like both their versions. I think Tanaka Rie has a more thin voice and can sustain more, whereas I love Wakana's unique quality and vibrato. XD But since this vid is about Wakana, HURRAY WAKANA! YIEEE! XD
Wakana is my ideal so with heartily respect I 'm gonna call her Wakana Mam. I wish one day I may come to Japan and meet you because Japan and mam you are my favorite.I love you Wakana Mam. And may wish you best of luck for your entire life

It's 2022 and I still go back to this performance. It's timeless.
agreed
I could not agree with you more. It is best performance ever.
まだ聴いているよ。女神様Voiceに癒やされます。
I love the way Kajiura sama looks so proud of her young singers, like a wise teacher

One of the five best performances in the entire decade in the world. Perhaps the best.

Top one version amongst several Kajiura's ballads in my lullaby playlist
I wish I had kajiura’s career. She’s so in her element. Wakana as well that voice is divine
I love how Kajiura-san looks like she's in in heaven the whole time while listening to Wakana sing.
The perfect voice for the perfect song.

this song gets to me everytime i listen to it. I can't help but cry as soon it gets to the mizu no nagare part
She has a incredible voice
the best song sung by Wakana besides Gloria. Wakana is the best
I love Wakana

to me the rie Tanaka and Ootaki Wakana versions are two completely seperate songs that must be judged independently.

Beautiful...... wakana
Wow. I never realized how much I appreciated this performance until I listened to Wakana's 2012 version. This is so great in comparison.
Wakana should cover the opening for Clannad After Story or Angel Beats. She has a pretty similar vocal tone to the singer of those openings.

Not really, her voice is more heavy and a bit hoarse for this song. This song is better for high and light voices like the original.
