Add-on, do not buy any Hyundai or Kia vehicles.
They did f**ed up my engine of 2017 Tucson LTD 1.6T, end up drama I have to push away get back couple thousands. From there, I promise to myself, I and all my friends include my family.
DO NOT BUY ANY HYUNDAI VEHICLES. They have so much trouble of their engine and leak pipe, or broken stuffs under 30k miles, and can lead to serious injury from the fire engine that I am lucky I did not suffer. Not even better, my engine has exploded cylinders under 30k miles for damn cheap spark plugs that led to the whole engine, which made me wait over half a year for stuff during the pandemic If you don't believe me or turn away my pain as a lesson, then you'd feel free to do it.
I SWEAR YOU ARE GOING TO REGRET FOR SURE, 1000%.

Well, a lot of people don't research cars or think they're very special if they buy or lease BMW's (70 percent of BMW's are leased). Dealt with a very special BMW owner today in the school pickup line. He parked in the middle of the street blocking traffic and looking at his phone.:) I can attest many BMW drivers psychological profiles must be narcissists.

My 3 1/2 year old 2021 Crosstrek Limited was just totaled by the insurance company after an unfortunate accident. They gave me $30k for it and I paid $31k new (I didn't have replacement cost coverage). I was amazed that it only lost about $1k in 3 1/2 years. Waiting for my new Crosstrek Limited to come in.

Great video Shari! Not surprised about Maserati, it's name is more valuable than anything they can put to market. Regarding the 10 best at holding value I was kind of surprised to see Porsche be at the top of the list. But when I got to thinking about it makes sense. These cars are more like showroom vehicles, meaning, they are driven only in the best conditions and meticulously maintained. However, the 7 series BMW that my dentist probably drives is a status symbol that his neighbor maybe impressed by but not his colleagues. Additionally, my dentist is driving that 7 series through snow, sleet, and ice. Probably in a garage, but it is being driven like a real car. Just my opinion. Thanks for all you contribute!

Thank you! The thing with Porsche is they are so hard to get. The 911 usually has a 6-12 month wait and good luck getting a GT3. Most dealers won't give you an allocation unless you already bought 2-3 other Porsches first!

Another great video. Excellent information.I love your insight and I agree with your conclusions. You do the research. I owned a 2003 Civic EX automatic for 15 years and 180,000 miles, paid $17,000. It lost 85%, but who cares. I paid $26,000, out the door, for a 2021 Corrolla hatchback, XSE, 6 speed manual, silver with a black roof. I put 14,000 miles on it in 33 months. Traded it on a new 2023 Golf GTI 40th anniversary, 6 speed in Urano Gray last September. The VW dealer gave me $25,000 (US) for the Corolla! About 4 percent loss. I did pay MSRP for the GTI. Also got $25,000 trade in for a 2016 4Runner SR5 4WD in silver with 80K miles on a BMW X3 Sdrive 30i. I'll be losing money on the BMW but it sure is a fun ride. I hope the GTI is a winner in a few years, Im betting on it. If I chose all my vehicles based on resale alone it would be boring. I know, I have done such numerous times and will probably do so in the future. I like driving. The Camaro was a surprise, love them and the Mustang. The Camaro, as we know it , is going away. A nice example with a manual will probably be a good investment if one could keep the miles down.

You know, I heard in Norway, where ev's account for around 90% of the new car market, that used ICE vehicle prices have plummeted. Something to keep in mind if the market changes here in the future. With the potential major changes coming in the next 5 years, it may not be a good time to spend a lot of money on a vehicle.

I have owned Porsche , BMW, Toyota and Lexus .. I believe that depreciation is dependent on the area of the US.. I have lost the most money on my current 22 Lexus RX that I just traded my Porsche Macan for.. Within a few months, I lost about $12K.. the cars I lost the least on was actually the BMW X3.. other than having good reliability and low maintenance. I don’t see any difference with Lexus and the German rivals. I did lose about the same amount on my Porsche Macan trading into the 2022 RX. I can’t believe how much I’ve lost both private party sale and trade. Lexus did not hold its value in my opinion.
The car that has held the best value and is worth almost what I paid for is the 23 Toyota Venza Limited.
I definitely agree hybrids hold their value better.

The high resale value of the Lexus would show when it's over 8 years old. German cars are mostly worthless by that point because everyone is afraid of the crazy repair costs. A Lexus, however, doesn't have that issue. They remain desirable and valuable because of their reliability.

A Lexus RX 350 will depreciate 28% after 5 years and have a 5 year resale value of $39,657. The Lexus RX 350 consistently ranks in the Top 5 of luxury vehicles, when it comes to maintaining value, and it continues to do so well into the later years.

I’m confused on the use of the word “average” when it comes to the percentage of $ lost. I’ve been driving a ‘22 Civic for just under 2 yrs & KBB says it’s already lost more than 21.5% of its value (or $6450)

Honda's recent issues that stand out to me as someone formerly in Honda Sales Mgmt.
    1. A/C Condenser failure for 20 yrs. (I had 2 failures in 2 cars)
Honda offers 10 yr replacement warranty.
    2. That pesky Gas/Oil Mixing issue. It's uncommon and mostly found in frigid climates. We never saw one in San Diego in several years. My buddy, a Honda Srvice Mgr in Seattle has had only one in all these years. So, l dont see it as pervasive.
    3. CVT: l do NOT see as a problem if you drain, measure and replace the Trans Fluid every 30k miles (Honda OEM Fluid ONLY!).
Honda has mitigated the vast majority of of these issues. Honda is not alone in this, seeing as this is direct injection related. As more companies go there, more fuel/oil mixing may become almost ubiquitous.

    • @alanjm1234
      @alanjm1234 4 месяца назад

The reason EVs depreciate so much is because of the cost of replacing batteries.
New batteries can cost a major fraction of the new car's cost.
If they need replacing at 10-15 years, the car will probably be scrapped, since the batteries will cost more than the car is worth.

It averages the 5 year depreciation over 5 models - Tesla Model 3, X,S and Nissan Leaf and Chevy Bolt - the Model 3 was close to industry average but a broad statement that EV are worst when you consider all 5. The study even makes it clear there is insufficient data to make a clear conclusion. Devil is in the details.

Ideally, buy a new vehicle with a dealer within 25 miles or less for any warranty work, or a used vehicle that local mechanics are used to working on. We test drive several vehicles, and at least 3 times for each one over a few weeks so the plusses and minuses stand out more. Especially seat comfort, steering and braking feel, suspension, noise, shifting, and dash info. Look for a low price and high volume dealer, instead of a high price and low volume thief. Watch out for bait and switch scammers, advertising a low price then adding on more for the off the lot price, or advertising it as a higher trim level to give it a lower price. Google has previous customer comments to look at, just remember that some of comments are likely fake, either biased high or low, because people often have an agenda to add smoke and mirrors and voodoo economics, to borrow from Bush Sr. during a primary against Ronnie Raygun.
