I have finally deduced why Tilapia is a highly purchased fish. Because this fish is solely on its price. We had a distinctly different batch of this fish on the block and nobody bought it. The difference between them? The description and the price.
We normally carry previously frozen tilapia fillets that are about $2.99 - $3.99 per pound. At that price, we can barely keep them on the shelf.
Today I had a customer bitch at me because our fresh caught tilapia - the only one we had - was too expensive. Instead of the normal price for the frozen, our fresh was $6.99; while it was on sale from $8.99, the customer complained it was "too expensive" and pleaded with us to search the freezer for the fish. Our district leader had to tell her personally (she was there that day) that she would have to try tomorrow to see if we got any from our shipment. She left "disappointed" and grumbling.
