There is an element of a moshpit sometimes in the comments. I come here to watch interesting people talk about their take on films and life in general. Everyone who enters the closet never fails to interest and entertain me - and I thank Criterion for setting up these picks. I certainly loved listening to Agnès's talking about the films and people. Thank you so much Agnès! Merci beaucoup.
Is this the same Agnes B with connections to Vincent Gallo, Gena Rowlands, David Lynch? The Agnes B who fronts producer money to directors like Gaspar Noe, Harmony Korine, Claire Denis? The original supporter and fundraiser for the Sarajevo Film Festival (designed the logo and the actual award, and donated via sales through her shops)? Agnes B the documentary maker? Agnes B the film director working with actors such as Sylvie Testud? Agnes B the stylist providing clothes for Who Are You Polly Magoo? Inspiration for the suits in Reservoir Dogs? Creator of Thurman's black top in Pulp Fiction? Supporter of the youth cine club at La Cinémathèque Française? The Agnes B renowned for owning one of the world's best film poster collections? Agnes B cteator of a DVD distribution line in France releasing classics and rarities from the likes of Andersson, Mikalkhov, Roeg and Alan Clarke? There aren't many fashion designers naming their creations after film heroes: the Pasolini shirt, the Vitti dress. Labelling a woman who has been cine-relevant in France and beyond for decades simply as 'fashion designer' feels a bit reductive.
I don't doubt that she has one. Although I'd be surprised if she actually brought them with her, considering her DVD/Blu-ray film line in France overlap a lot of releases. Putting only "fashion designer" in the description is really selling her short.
It's common in Europe to find 'Region Free" DVD/BluRays players. It's almost standard now considering people buy films online from world wide sellers. The Industry in the EU caters to the demand of buyers to make money.
Wow, we have a fashion great talking about wonderful films made by people she admired and some who became friends and people gripe? She reminded me I need to see more Almodovar not format or region code shaming. Sheesh.
The only ones that are griping are the Kojima fan boys, to be honest I had no idea who she was but I am not into the fashion world, still a very interesting video.
Une pure merveille pleine de lyrisme. I love that she showed each film directly to the cameras while speaking of why she chose that particular one. C'est un bel être humain très intelligente... c'est et une femme absolument mirifique. Merci Agnès B♥️
Weird that she thinks of asphalt jungle when she goes to new york? I know roebling built the bridge in Cincinnati, where the film was shot, before he built the brooklyn bridge. Other then that I dont really get Ny vibes from it, such a great movie though
Her actual picks were unfortunately not in the collection. Porkys, Revenge of the Nerds, Ernest goes to Jail, Ishtar and La Haine were her original choices.
Why would you need forgiveness? I remember when the only way to see a film was to go to a movie theater. I’m baffled but I guess I’m too old to get the joke.
actually i've got a sony upscaling dvd player and once i turned off the interpolation setting (can't remember what sony calls it, mayber motion smoothing?) in the TV's settings they actually look really good, you'd be surprised. but yeah, i'd grab blu-ray if i had the choice
@@XX-121 I just can't go back to DVD. There's a few films on Criterion that I love but are only on DVD & they've not upgraded to BluRay yet like Mafioso & The Bad Sleep Well but I'm still holding out hoping for a BluRay.

seeing her hold up Varda's face made me tear up a little..
same here. agnes was a goddess in the world of cinema. there is no one like her and no one will ever be that equal to her.
Ms. Anges B. is definitely one of the most charming closet visitors I've seen. So delightful!

I hope the madam has a region-free player if she plans to take these discs back to France.

or as Agnes Varda before her called it, a DVD reader
I'd to drink wine, smoke expensive cigarettes and eat decadent french food with her and just learn.
@@gnalkhere Perhaps it is because in French they call it "Lecteur de DVD". In Spanish we also call it sometimes "Lector de DVD". :)

First guest to mention Lost Highway.
"Im just hopping on to say im glad youre doing okay"

French sounds so 🔥 🥰
Vive Almodóvar!
So bloody true. For my money, he's the greatest living filmmaker.
and where is his palme d'or dammit!!!!
the most overrated for sure
Viva*
Such a great filmmaker. He deserves a Palme d'Or for sure! I love his film Bad Education which should be included in the Criterion Collection :)
Impeccable pics. Impressively eclectic, smart and poetic selections. I'm glad she picked Cul-de-sac; a dark, yet witty piece by Polanski.
Long live cinema 😊

Release all titles on the app
gotta be the first time anyone's ever picked cul-de-sac.
What is it about French women!😍🤷♀️
Most beautiful language in the world to my English-speaking ears.
@@justinkingery2489 That's Spanish!! :P I love French language too! ;)

Agnes Varda for the win. Time to rewatch Cleo From 5 to 7.

Spine #381 😉
I'd never forgive myself if I got into the Criterion Closet in 2023 & picked up a bunch of DVDs. 😂
I’ve noticed that the old people in here don’t really notice or care which version they get
Some people prefer to collect DVDs because of personal value compared to blue-rays. Especially older people lol.

Where's fucking Kojima we are here because of Mr. Kojima
Is he supposed to have one ? Would love to see his picks!
No one is here for the dude that created FedEx simulator.
