Riveting. Cathy vividly renders the quicksilver, kaleidoscopic, subtle changes of mood in the text with no discernible effort or undue emphasis. Her gentle yet substantial timbre is ideally suited to Monteverdi's æsthetic. The harpsichordist Herbert Tachezi is supportive yet unobtrusive, without introducing the attention-stealing frills and furbelows of the thankfully extinct Raymond Leppard school of continuo accompaniment. I don't know if this is what the singing of Anna Renzi, Barbara Strozzi or the ladies of Ferrara sounded like, but Cathy's artistry carries the ring of emotional truth, and in the end, that's the only authenticity that matters. Thank you, Manoli!
What a talented artiste! To give this piece true emotional authenticity, as Jason mentions, and with unobtrusive accompaniment. A truly transporting experience. Thank you Manoli.
