    I have a 3 prong cord but the end where you hook it up to the oven itself are like 2 prong forks instead of circles, is there a difference in how to hook them up

    • @TheAppliancePlug
      @TheAppliancePlug  2 года назад

      They still connect to the terminal block the same way. Just make sure when you tighten down the nuts, you do so on the flat part of the forks. Tighten all the way so the forks can’t twist. Thanks for watching!

    I have a 3 prong outlet and the stove/range has a 4 prong plug. I am changing the stove to a 3 prong plug...
    On the stove/range, do I install a ground strap from the frame/chassis of the stove to the neutral on the terminal block of the stove? Does the neutral also provide "ground" to the stove as where it appears the 4 prong outlet provided a separate ground wire?

    • @jspee1965
      @jspee1965 Год назад

      Yes a 3 prong cable plug should have that bridge in place on the range that bonds the Neutral and Ground together. On an appliance that has a 4 prong cable in place, that bridge would have been removed (not needed) so yes you need to install a ground strap when retrofitting to a 3 prong cable. STAY SAFE!

      Yes you can use a small piece of wire between the neutral and the ground. Make sure it is adequately stripped (plenty of bare wire at either end) and the wire is a snug, neat fit under the nuts.

    Sister just bought a used stove from a remodel job. After hooking up the electrical outlet, plugged in the stove ( which seemed to work) only to find the display did not come on. but it did flicker once, So I checked the plug not only was the left side completely burnt and corroded, but all three wires were not even screwed in but a couple turns, not tight at all. Thanks for telling the audience how important to get these wires tight. I will be getting a new plug tomorrow.

    What if stove doesn't have groundwire hookup

    • @jspee1965
      @jspee1965 Год назад

      It must be an old appliance not to have a ground lug. Either way you would need to use a 3 prong cable, the Neutral wire being connected to the Neutral lug.

  • @motube2389

    The million dollar question is, the 3rd wire on the wall outlet, is it connected to the ground or the neutral bus bar on the panel?

      On a 3 prong cable the middle (Neutral) wire is often ribbed to make identifying it much easier.

    So does this mean that all newer stove models can interchange between a 3 prong to 4 prong/4 prong to 3 prong?
    Why would you need a 3 versus 4 or vice versa? What’s the difference/benefits of the two?

    • @ambarr365
      @ambarr365 3 года назад +1

      It depends on if the outlet in your home is 3 or 4 prong.

    • @TheAppliancePlug
      @TheAppliancePlug  3 года назад +3

      Stoves typically don't come with the power cord already installed when purchased brand new. You install the cord based on the outlet in your home and there's a slight difference between installing a 3 prong cord versus a 4 prong cord. We have another video showing how to install a 4 prong cord. Check it out! Thanks for watching!
