- The Navy Lark was a BBC radio comedy written by Laurie Wyman and George Evans about the crew of The Royal Navy frigate HMS Troutbridge and their mis-adventures. The show was first aired on March 29th, 1959, and ran for fifteen series until 1976 making it one of the second longest running radio programme the BBC has made. There was a spin-off film version of The Navy Lark in 1959. Please find series two split into three weeks as it so huge at 27 episodes. Unfortunately, episodes 7 & 20 have gone AWOL! And shocks CPO Pertwee. 😅 I think thats the one where Philip keeps getting promoted. I love this show.
Worth noting, that between series 4 & 5 the producers tried a new direction The TV Lark but after only 7 episodes they reverted back to the tried and tested Navy Lark thankfully. The fact that there was only one series before everybody was back in the Navy and aboard HMS Troutbridge shows that the idea was not a complete success, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The cast protested against it as did the writer but in the opinion of the powers that be said that forces humour had had its day.
