Resident Evil Village Video Review

- The sequel to Resident Evil 7 leans heavily on Resident Evil 4's brand of action, but adds its own sensibilities to the mix.
Phil Hornshaw scoured the ramshackle houses and strange environs of Resident Evil Village for about 12 hours on PlayStation 5, which included blasting off quite a few lycan heads in The Mercenaries. Review code was provided by the publisher. - Игры
The last hour of EVERY Resident Evil game turns the action up to 12/10. Every game.
Since re 1 it has been this way. All best guns and ammo to spare. Don't know if the reviewer ever play the past game or even unlock anything past storylines anyway
And it almost always ends with a rocket launcher or an explosion
Is that a bad thing?
@@josemiravite3289 helicopter
@@DkViking1 no, but the reviewer just mentioned that he wasn't a fan of how RE8 turned up the action for the last hour. I was pointing out that all RE games do this.
They should show Ethan carrying this big ass suitcase 😂
If each item had weight and could slow your movement, it would make survival horror better imo.
I mean, Leon never showed it in re4 it just opens up and Boom! It has space for 5 boxes of handgun bullets, 3 boxes of shotgun shells, a Rifle, Infinite rocket launcher, 3 eggs, and 5 RGY herb mixes
Yeah but Leon kept the ammo in his tight shirt and pulled the shotgun out of his long hair.
@@noobreloaded no. just no.

I’m so glad they brought back the RE4 inventory system.
Does time freeze when you open inventory?
You can't swap items with each other if they're only 1 in the slot you're moving it to, so I'd say it's different, and more clunky than RE4 lol
nice idea
Because next title will RE4 Remake and assets will reuse.
@@ninjaamara8053 that's not confirmed, they only confirmed a vr version of re4.

Yeah Gamespot tends to spoil games.
Yep. I stopped this video after he gave away the entire beginning segment. What an absolute joke. If you guys are interested in seeing a mostly spoiler free video check out Gamebolt's coverage. He does share some video of the 4 different families however. If you cut his video around the 10:00 mark you will get a clean review. As soon as he mentions the 4 different families cut it.
@@Sinn0100 ok, thanks.

No problem my friend. I hope it's much more helpful than this spoiler ridden thing. Just be careful when he starts talking about the 4 families and be ready to cut it fast (I did).

I regret watching this review. He gave away the entire beginning of the story. Holy cow the entire thing.
You know a Resident evil game is good when you feel like beating it more than 6 times.
How about you beat it once first
Well all resident evil games are made with speed runs in mind so it’s really not that hard. I just beat re2 yesterday 3 times because it only takes an hour & 15 minutes each.
@@xDeadEye1 the fact you beat a game that many times without getting sick of it is testament to how good it is
@@jeffreyterrio5665 absolutely brother. Resident Evil 2 is one of the best games ever made right next to Silent Hill in my humble opinion.
I beat it twice once with my meat and the other one is the actual game
Just finished village. It's a masterpiece in my opinion. I've played all the res games in past few months. The story telling, combat, environment design and the overall pacing was extremely well done.
Yeah, I just can't understand why they can't make this a 100 plus our game if you have games like The Elder Scrolls that can do it.
The story was terrible. The pacing was all over the place. 7/10 for me.
This reviewer took lessons from my parents.
Every time they say "oh you should watch this movie, son" and then proceed to tell the WHOLE story.
yep, that's why I turned it off.
How did he tell the whole story? because I didn't get any plot details from it..only how he feels about the character which is story review 101.
@@isimioyekunlemarktaiwo3643 he one hundred percent spolied the beginning. Told you how it starts while also telling you how to play the castle.
@@isimioyekunlemarktaiwo3643 Then you sir did not listen. Spoiler filled video, even if considered small.
Imagine voluntarily watching a video review and being upset that a small portion of the game got spoiled for you.

I’m so excited for this game

Agreed. Holy cow it's too late for me now. So upset...
Yeah what it up with that! Pretty much explains the complete prologue and castle. Unbelievable
what the hell you all have with the spoilers? i didn't hear any
Remember when a video game "review" would only tell you the info you needed to know if you should buy it or not? Not like this one where they give you the whole story and even say "here's what happens in the last hour"!! Wtf!! Unreal, a launch review is not supposed to be this specific. Now I understand why some publishers have rules for pre-release reviewers to follow.
they used to be militant psychos about anything past about the first 1/3rd of the game leaking. I wonder what happened..
I'm glad I read this before finishing the video lol.... So they really spoiled it :/?
it's NOT thje whole story!
Fuck i watched it. I dont wanna play it now
I was searching for this comment...like come on they spoil more than half of the game now from the first week tis launched is this a review or recap of the game stroy and events ?
A fusion of RE7 and RE4 with more of a focus on action a la 4 than 7? Sounds exactly like I game I want to play, cant wait.
aaah me too
Enemies are a little too bullet sponge though. Would be nice if they brought back headshots like in re4
Anyone else get strong castlevania vibes when you first approached the castle and once inside?
Haven’t heard it yet but the other guy says this has spoilers so be warned
It does. Where's the spoiler alert?! Not appreciated...
@@ErikOlsonWA lol
Is it really their fault that you're too dumb to realize if you click on a video with a review that there is a strong possibility that it might have spoilers!?
@@disturbedone8731
Yes because a review on release is not suppose to be filled with story spoilers.
It's basic common sense and courtesy. This is a terrible one.
@@disturbedone8731 Usually reviews go out of their way to NOT spoil since the target audience will watch the video before they actually play it, in the hopes of getting enough information to see if the game is for them or not... Why do you feel the need to berate and name-call someone because they expect a spoiler tag in something that would greatly benefit from it and ruins the experience for the viewer if it is nonexistent?
no these are not big spoils , chill everyone
This seems even better than RE 7, and that was a great game!

Spoiler without context alert: Vaas
Nah, it's just a meme phase. She's not even in it that much.
She's barely in the game. Kind of like the Village Chief from RE4.
The time with her is good and well paced, short but good. But i think the advertise department did some overhyping on her because she's not the great bad at all.
As much as I hate to say it, she was overhyped. She's more of a tertiary antagonist and isn't in the game for very long

Only 1/4 of the game was RE4esque. Just finished it now and the trailers were actually comprise like the first part of the game.
I don't understand why everybody keeps comparing this to Resident Evil 4
It's absolutely nothing like it.
@@disturbedone8731 Lol thats just not true. From things as small as the inventory system to the return of a merchant and loot drops from enemies or the big fight where you have to barricade yourself in the houses within the first 10 minutes of entering the Village JUST like in RE4. While I think its unfair to say it copies everything from RE4 or even a lot of things, it doesnt take much to see theres definitely some inspiration and ideas taken straight from it and theres nothing wrong with that. They threw their own spices on the game to make it similar yet veerrrry different from RE4.
10:28 I wish the games can evolve, and we have physics for a necklace instead of being stuck on the chest.

Capcom on Resident Evil 8: Yeah, screw that! Let's go back to action shooter department and mess up again!

@@PNWAffliction 7 is totally a classic survival horror experience. To say 7 is not a RE is to say you haven't played it basically.
it's less worse than RE6
People are complaining the guns are overly presented. Don't collect the gun if you have issues playing an action horror game with a bunch of guns. I got triple as in the village mercenary mode. Took me quite some time to achieved it.
Bro did you just explain the whole story?
Thanks for telling us
He did bruh and I’m pissed

no , he just say that Chris Take Ethan's Daughter and kill Mia
One of the best res game ever
I genuinely cannot wait dude
the "COD" portion is like 30-45 minutes. It's really not that big of a deal and it makes sense considering the story at that point in the game. Village is great. Nothing mind blowing but super polished, plays great, OST is good, story keeps you engaged, etc, etc. Really solid title with lots of replay value, there were a bunch of things I didn't access cause I couldn't figure out how to get back to the West side of the Village. Options mini-boss enemies. Really cool game that manages to retain elements of why the classic RE formula still holds up.
This game was really good, especially-
*Spoiler Warning*
House Beneviento. In my personal opinion it's hard for a survival horror game to get my heart racing and the part with the giant fetus really got to me, and got my heart pounding. I got a huge "Amnesia" and somewhat "Silent Hill" game vibe from it from the whole experience. The only worst thing about it is that it wasn't longer. It had to be the shortest area in my opinion. Imagine if the house was bigger and you went through many levels. The Fetus obviously represented Rose, imagine if there were other enemies that took form from Ethan's past and personal demons. And since you can't fight back that is what made the experience even better.
You wished it was longer? Omg I wish it was shorter 😂 best part of the game imo
@@macenani Which is why I wish it was longer, it came the closest as to what Resident Evil was in its glory days.
im so fucking hyped for this game i loved RE7 this is going to be a really good game
when will capcom learn to stop making re into an action game?
When games like RE3 and 4 stop becoming all-time best-sellers. And when RE fans stop buying all the spin-off games which are all action, simply because they're jonesing for anything RE.
In other words, they'll "learn" when they change their reason for existing from "making the highest possible profit" to "appeasing only one portion of the fanbase." Shortly after which, they will cease to exist.
9:31 god I wish that hand was mine
Just your hand? 😏

Looks like another great RE game. Can't wait!
"Running away means you can't see what the enemy is doing" damn that sounds tense, like something you might find in a horror game...
they gave it a better score than re7, now im VERY excited
that isn't hard, re7 was an on-rails mud graphics kitchen sim.
They say it's close to RE4 so.. back to the bullshit again. Classic survival horror style was fun for 1 game I guess 😓
they cant eternally keep the restrictive survival formula , but at least it's not full action like in RE6
I agree with you so much about the movement. It's okay during exploration, but in combat it feels really lacking from not having a melee attack and the blocking function just feels unresponsive. They could have used the circle button for more than just quick turning. That could have been used for dodging, like in so many other games, but it might have been a bit grating in first person, so who knows if it would have improved the combat gameplay.
Let the pc mods for lady D be unleashed 😈

Kinda feels like Capcom is also using this game as a means of laying out the groundwork/mechanics for the inevitable RE4 Remake. XD
they have the re4 VR... so hopefully they actually remake 4, and not make it that.
@@PNWAffliction considering RE4 has been ported to hell and back, ESPECIALLY recently with VR, I wouldn’t mind em going in a different direction with the remake. Like keep the story the same but make it as scary as the remakes for RE 1 and 2, less linear/more interconnected, and have some quality of life improvements.
why they should do an RE4 remake , never understood that phantasm, RE8 itself IS more or less the RE4 remake
Really love this game so far my only complaint is a timed survival section towards the beginning that was way harder than the first 5 hours. I had to lower the difficulty then it was just too easy.
I'm really surprised they gave it a 9. The last half of the review seemed to have more negative comments. GameSpot does not seem to give out 9 scores a lot on their game reviews, so with the increased negative comments in the last half, I'm very surprised they gave it that high of a score. I really hope I can give it a similar score once I play it!
Nah
@@goldensapphire0 Nah what? It's not a good game really, or just not a 9?
Only thing I dislike slightly not enough to distract me while playing is the wolves using weapons instead of strictly claws and biting.
Everyone last game there's not enough enemies.. Resident Evil 8 there's too many enemies. You'll never be satisfying
What village has taught me is that Capcom has a real stiffy for Resident Evil 4. I thought I was getting a new game like Resident Evil 7. The Resident Evil 2 remake was the direction I hoped Re would return to. Real survival horror.
Resident Evil 4 is among my favorite games ever. It had so much depth to it, and I remember playing the campaign multiple times. Hopefully once you beat the game once, they sell you weapons via the vendor like the Chicago Typewriter with infinite ammo in RE4, or the rocket with infinite ammo (Infinite Launcher). The next play throughs with hidden weapons are great.
It was originally Revelations 3 so no Alex wesker Barry or mention of Jill? Damn capcom really changed it up

After watching other reviews, it seems we should temper our expectations. We should know things like it’s a mix of re4 and 7. People who loved the story and feel of 7 may be disappointed. I’m happy as re4 was may fav cuz I prefer action horror as compared to survival horror.

Fun fact with the mainline Resident Evil games RE 1-3 were all fixed camera angles, RE 4-6 were all third person and RE 7-8 are in first person and RE 9 is most likely going to be the same as RE 8 so after RE 9 we are most likely going to get a different styled Resident Evil game again
