Thanks to everyone who watched this all the way through and understood the points I was discussing. It's something I feel passionate about, and although I have no stake in SF90, as a Ferrari customer, it is still my place to talk about how I feel about the company. So glad you have supported this episode by watching it.

They do this because... Im a games designer and we do the same thing. Launch a big game, then 3 months later, we launch extra content for it. Because then there is a new round of media-hype, a new round of awareness for the product, a new round of press releases, reviews in magazines. Same for cars. The magazines want to do all the tests. The entire media circus is on it again. And thats good for shareholders, investors, everybody shows up for release parties, free drinks, patting each other on the back, and hype.

@@captain_context9991 maybe... But unlike game’s developers Ferrari haven’t delivered the car into production because building and delivering a Ferrari is nothing like a game... Games don’t have NCAP and Euro regulations to meet first. Games just get debugged and released. They don’t depend on factory production lines. So your comparison logic is way off...

Hi guys. I love your show. On a positive note: I have a 2020 812 hard top. I waited one year to receive the car. It is solid. A truly amazing car. I like the lines better then the GTS. So, as rare as they are, no big deal in the long-term regarding resale. I am waiting (8 months so far) for a Red basic SF-90. My MSRP will be $700K. In the end, some people like a coupe, some like a convertible. I have a milder convertible I won’t mention. These cars are rare and will go up in value long-term. I agree Ferrari has no clue about spacing things out. They screw-up often. But, wait and see. Hopefully they slow things down. Thanks for the fun, informative show.

They are special, you are buying into a specialist club of low volume special vehicles. If you go out to buy their "newest" model then YES I firmly believe you should have time to enjoy that vehicle before its replaced. To replace a model before you have even delivered the last "latest" model to your customers is shocking.

It certainly seems like the time has passed where you could have bought a new Ferrari and driven it for a year without loosing a lot of money and or having the replacement for your car show up so soon. Ferrari dealers are going to have to have demo cars for all the current models on hand for people to drive so we can choose the car we want to buy as future ownership could be a longer time than in the past.

Ferrari isn't a customer company anymore. It has become a shareholder company. Since it got decoupled from Fiat a couple years ago, the Ferrari stock price has tripled, yet the output (about 10k cars per anno) has stayed roughly the same. There are too many different models that have been released in quick succession, yet most of them use the 3.9 Liter V8 Twin, even the SF90. This will lead to a quicker devaluation of older models and potentially worse customer service.

In fact it’s a similar issue with lots of more down to earth brands. People who ever had to experience one of the aftermarket services of their precious - in my case German brand - being kicked in the ***. Specifically I was told that the turbocharger in my BMW did a pretty good job surviving until 175.000km as they usually come in broken at around 125-150.000 km - in a diesel for gods sake!!! This is what you want to hear found stranded on the Autobahn. Some people say a Merc is not even properly run in at this point in time.... Well, I’ll stop here otherwise I end up in a rant. Anyhow - great video! Btw - love the seats in your Spyder - yes I do!

I agree with you. I think the problem runs even deeper: new tech, faster speeds, less emotion. Once you enter the “tech arms race” then your Ferrari can be “old tech” even before delivery. They need to pivot back to gorgeous designs, Italian leather interiors, emotive driving, fewer models, and longer cycles.
I have a 16M and a Speciale and IMO none of the newer cars come close for the “soul” of Italian motoring. Any manufacturer can make a Roma if they wanted, but not everyone can make a 16M and pull it off.

Like you, I decided against ordering an SF90. The market for £0.5m cars is very small and production numbers are not limited. It will depreciate like an 812. Yep, I agree with you totally. Its a disgraceful way to treat customers - they should wait till all orders of the latest model are fulfilled before the sale of the new model. We see similar things with quite a few of the major tech manufacturers, but atleast they wait a reasonable amount of time.

Interesting! Just a thought from a non-Ferrari fan - when was it that you noticed that in the V6/V8 series (originally entry-level Ferrari) two seater car, that Ferrari had a habit of not only building a hard top berlinetta, but also a targa top and/or a convertible version of the same car? Just checking, but according to a few sources they've been doing it since the 246 GTS Dino in 1971. Plus normally when Ferrari launch a new car, the designer will comment that the car will come in the following variants, or at least is designed for the possibility of hard/soft top variants. A quick check shows that happening from at least the mid-1908's.
Personally the thing that would annoy me is the delay of ordering, and whilst doing so the announcement of new models. You've made some fine previous points - especially whilst waiting for your Pista Spider - that the SF90 had been announced, yet you had no delivery date for your car: crazy!
Finally, industry norms are fast changing. Most car companies - from Skoda to Ferrari - now won't let a model last for the "old" lifespan of 7 years, with a mid-life refresh. Instead of a mid-life refresh, its a whole new model (in part because the technology and environmental regulations are changing so fast, plus yes it's marketing driven for sales). Ferrari hence are now just doing what every other car company does: a new model will have the following "tick the boxes" variants.
Good video, you are always a good video-ranter. Perhaps for dedicated Tifosi some of that Ferrari sparkle is gone when you know the model variants will inevitably include hard/soft top, and the acceptance of industry norms on model lifespan. But they both sound too first world personally. But you make an excellent point as previously about the pace of release of new models, and the still "normal" old Ferrari delays in getting your car to drive - that's the real and well made point here. It is as you said destroying brand loyalty. Good Luck!

You are not concerned about loosing money on your 718 Spyder or GT3 Touring, you are driving them and enjoying them. You know the game Ferrari is playing and it is fine to cancel your order. You can always buy a well driven and well cared for ST90 coupe if you choose at a fraction of the new price you were going to pay. So just buy, drive, and enjoy according to whatever marketing decisions the auto makers are making.

When I was a kid growing up in the southwest a Ferrari was a very rare sight unless you went to Nigel Mansell in Blandford! You now see them on the road so frequently if they are not going to continue to be exclusive they will need to lower the price. There are so many sports cars from other stables which will run them close to the wire on every sensation so I think loyal buyers will shift and think why pay more if there is no more added value?. Sounds daft but a bit like Lidl. Thank god brands like Rolex haven’t gone the same way. I hope Ferrari wake up and smell the Italian coffee, otherwise instead of upgrading my old F banger in a couple of years, I may look at other more sensibly priced and potentially more exclusive options. I honestly think, and have been for a year or so, that they are on their way down. Their performances in F1 have been shocking and now they are resorting to just churning out car model after model.
Yes they are good cars im sure, but no1, they are loosing their uniqueness and no2, will start to become more common on the road.
It just reminds me of Jay Emms three mclaren episodes, which is mainly about (given its a specific dealership) mclaren pi$$in off its customers and i just feel the same is happening with ferarri. Albeit ferarri is also pi$$in of its fans in F1.

Issue for me is that Ferrari have not upscaled their production only their design and market management teams. I suspect the dealers will get fed up too, specing cars and moving deposits from one to another without actually selling anything and making any money. However, I sold my latest car earlier this year and for the first time in a very long time have no yearning to replace it ... the "specialness" has gone for me. I do not think that is explained by me merely becoming familiar / blasé with the ownership experience, it truly feels that I am being treated differently than I was just a few years ago. Can not put my finger on it precisely, but it feels frankly that they started taking me for a fool .. rather than "having my back", as I used to feel was the case, it started to feel like they were "laughing behind my back".
