    I have severe insomnia and it peaked at 2023. It’s cause mental health issues, it’s aged me in the past year, it’s given me bad brain fog, Sever issues with focus, constant fatigue. It’s the absolute worst.

      ​@@MultiMcgurk I was just sharing my experience with it. I've been trying to figure it out for over a year. I've done sleep studies blood work physicals tried different diets CBT sleep hygiene books podcast vitamins and some sleep aids. I'm definitely trying to sort it out

    I can relate. I max at 0-3 hrs of sleep a night. There are times when I stay up for 3 to 5 days straight. I gave up. I would just wait until my body crashed.

      @@javixavalier4456 Anxiety plays a huge role in my insomnia I found. I used ambien for a bit but I'm getting off it now since it only helped me get to sleep. My doctor gave me something called hydroxyzine it's supposed to be good for anxiety based sleep issues. Could be alot of other things like hyperthyroidism, sleep apnea, or even depression. Do you experience any brain fog?

      @@TeslaEmperor my insomnia actually started from anxiety/depression medication I took called lexapro. I never had anxiety though I was experiencing something more like long Covid but my doctor didn’t know what to do so told me to take those pills. I have never had trouble sleeping my entire life and after taking this pills I got horrible insomnia which is even worse now after 9 months of dealing with it. He gave me the hydroxyzine which didn’t help at all. Then I tried doxylamine succinate which helped but I took it for 2 months and it lost its effectiveness. I have tried heavier medications like estazolam and lunesta but they do absolutely nothing. It’s like my brain or body rejects every sedating pill. I have tried mirtazapine for secondary insomnia use but doesn’t do much. Then I made the mistake of combining 3 of these medications to get some sleep and it made things worse. I do have brain fog but now don’t know if it’s because of the many pills I’ve taken. Got a sleep study done and they said I had mild sleep apnea but even with an expensive CPAP machine I still can’t sleep. Cognitive decline is worsening and I feel like my brain is on fire when I go multiple nights without sleep in a row.I’m seriously considering killing myself as I can’t take this anymore.

      @@TeslaEmperor Don't have the answers, but beware of benzos and antihistamines like hydroxyzine. Both can cause brain fog if used long term. Sending positive wishes.

    Chronic sleep deprivation is very serious. If you need medication to help you sleep then take it. It is more important to sleep.

    I remember that I had trouble sleeping as early as the age of 5 now that I am 40 there are times when I get better and times when I go back to the same condition that I was in. Yet I feel like nobody can understand what insomnia is like except for a person who had gone through it.

    I have insomnia as well, went to sleep specialist and they pretty much just want to prescribe sleeping pills and not get to the root cause of the problem. I will stay awake mostly all night and won’t start to fall asleep until 5-6 am, which is when I need to get up with kids in the morning. It really controls your life on many levels. Mainly being irritable, and having no energy to do anything. I exercise, and don’t do any of the things that this lady is saying helped her. For me I cannot shut my mind off and no matter how sleepy I feel, I still can’t fall asleep. I’m probably only getting 2-3 hours a day . It’s frustrating!

      Consume a diet of vegetables... Get yourself nutritional yeast and raw Irish seamoss...heal your body... this is a start... Oh and install a blue light filter on your cell phone and computer screen... And cut back your time on both..

      I've felt your pain, for about a month I had a similar expereience. I found for me it was stress at a particular moment in life, then not getting sleep made me stress more which led to less sleep again. As soon as the stress lifted, and I stopped worrying about how much sleep I may get that night and just went with it, I started to sleep better. You have to shut your mind off to a certain degree, no phones, no tv in bed etc, and have a dark room best you can. If you only get 2 hours, don't let it bother you, the less you think about it and let it frustrate you the less likely you'll sleep good the next night. Just my two cents, hope it resolves soon for you!

      I used to do this years ago. I exercise a lot now. I eat more good food. I can still have a lousy night the biggest influence has been giving up the booze and the cigarettes. I also drink a lot of caffeine. I have about 18 cups of tea a day. I sleep like a baby.

      I have been like that my whole life and I am 52 now. When I was married I was lucky to get an hours sleep every few weeks. It was terrible and I was very ill. Now I am lucky to get 1 to 3 hours a night. I struggle to get to sleep and wake up half an hour to an hour later. Toss and turn for hours and then just before, an hour sometimes 2, it is time to get up I go into a very deep sleep. I have a lot of energy though. I have quit caffeine never had blue light interference as never had TVs etc in my room so that has made no difference now either. Any lights I have I cover so they do not interfere. Nothing helps.

    Well here it is 3 AM and as usual tried sleep meds and soft music but it’s not working. This has been going on for months and I’m so tired of being tired.

    This is infuriating. No sleeping every night is what people with fibromyalgia go through. We degrade in every way too. And people say well exercise, eat better. What they don’t realize is you physically cannot do anything because your body is in negative sleep. Your brain decays, your hair falls out, your body is in constant fight or flight. Your adrenal glands give out. You can no longer absorb nutrients from food or supplements. Your heart rate slows and since your circulation isn’t working as it should because your heart rate slows. Your whole body shuts down. And you die because your heart just gets slower and slower. It took me over ten years in a constant sleep deprivation state to figure out tiny little things that could help. After almost fifteen years existing like this I’m better. But I can’t work a job, tax myself or I get very sick. Bedridden for days. I take hundreds of dollars of supplements each month not to mention the hundreds of dollars in medication. I work non-stop to keep balance in my life so I can have a life and not just exist. And not all doctors even believe fibromyalgia exists. Mine doesn’t. I have to do research get him to do the lab tests that will show those things that are wrong in a way he can’t deny. I wished I had only had four years to deal with insomnia and the pain you live with hasn’t even been factored in. People all over the world are suffering with fibromyalgia and other chronic illness that ruin their sleep and their lives but this lady is amazing for figuring out you have to be in a relaxed state that includes your brain relaxing to sleep and it’s a miracle?! Don’t get me wrong I know she suffered and it’s not something I would wish on anyone. But why aren’t people with chronic illness being spotlighted. Because everyone is sick of hearing it maybe? Well no one is more sick of it then those who have it and are grateful for whatever they can find out that will improve their sleep and their lives.

      OLATUNDE OYEYEMI I’m so sorry I did didn’t see this sooner. Ask for a ced rate test. It will show if you have an immune disorder. That would be my first step. What symptoms do you have? Can you not sleep at all?

      Yes!! There was no part of my life unaffected. I was given a presumptive diagnosis of Fibromyalgia when I first took my sleep data to my neurologist. There were 5 total different "it's prob this" without testing before I found a new PCP and then the CBT guy.

    I have this exact thing. It's horrible and really is a form of torture and it will damage your head. I'll think people are there who I know then you turn around and no one was there to begin with. Struggled since I was a preteen and am 28 and still have it. So sorry to hear...

    Fit Bit doesn't measure accurately. I believe completely she wasn't sleeping well- I've been there. But she was probably sleeping more than she thought she was. Poor woman though.

    Extreme insomnia is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy!! I survived cardiac arrest at 16yrs old, I'm 30 now. I got a defibrillator implanted back at 16. A few years later, it happened again but in my sleep and I had my defibrillator then. I got thrown across my bed, I thought I was shot. It subconsciously traumatized me I think. I'd doze off, feel a "phantom jolt," wake up. It's diff than the startle response. I had to accept i could die in my sleep (and really a good way to go, as morbid as that sounds! My cousin died at 25 in his sleep from same heart condition) and I feel I have. However, I still had insomnia!! Id go up to 72hrs no sleep, crash for 12hrs. I literally had to get to the point that things look like they're moving when they are not. The intense anxiety and paranoia insomnia causes is awful, and it's driven me to want to attempt suicide. Countless times I've broken down BAWLING, praying and begging for God to just take me or thinking about suicide just so my body could finally rest. My advice to anyone who wants to take it is do what this woman says. Do not take prescription sleep pills long term, they don't work long term, theyre addictive (coming off is AWFUL), and side effects are terrible. I've done crazy things on ambien and similar hypnotics (once including an overdose that was intentional although I wasn't even suicidal, don't remember it at all). Switch to ear buds, self hypnosis videos on RUclips, guided meditation, or binaural beats... THEY WORK. Michael Sealey here on YT is great. I still have bouts of insomnia but sooooo much better!!

      I completely agree with your sleep aids statements. Shopping apps, smart phones and sleep meds are an interesting combo. Everyday when the mail or UPS showed up was like Christmas.

      @@TeslaEmperor thank you, i really hope you get better as well . There is one medication i have ever found that works, and that is xanax. But that is very difficult/impossible to get from a doctor, also you cant take it all the time, as you have to keep increasin dosage. So in the long run it is no sollution. I have tried many forms of therapy, nothing that works unfortunately. How about you?

      @@khole15 That is unfortunate. My doctor only prescribes benadryl and some other medication called trazodone that doesn't seem to work for me. I think my insomnia stems from a neck issue that I am trying to get diagnosed but it is hard to do so. I thought maybe it could be an inner ear problem or heart problem too. Hang in there friend and thank you for talking with me. I hope we can find out what is causing this insomnia. There is always a reason behind this illness.

      Depends on how bad it is. I have had sleep problems since I was very young. I never never slept well, but recently It has gotten worse as I get older. My sleep insomnia is extremely bad (something that can’t be cured with a cup of milk). I’ve tried the no screens thing multiple times before but it never works because of how bad my insomnia is. It really depends on if you have and extremely severe case or a temporary one

      here you go 1. No screens in the bedroom--except to listen to mindful meditation tracks. Not even for reading.
      2. Get some early morning natural light, as often as possible.
      3. No "To do list" after 7:30 pm
      4. No caffeine after 12 pm
      5. No TV after 10 pm.
      * 6. Do not go to bed until 11 PM. (I had been sleeping only from 9:30 pm to 11:30 pm. I need to a "phase shift.")
      7. Do not get out of bed until 6 AM.
      8. Listen to a mindful meditation track on youtube at bedtime and upon awaking during the night.
      9. Do not "try" to go to sleep/go back to sleep.
      10. If it takes more than 10 mins or I get frustrated trying to fall asleep, walk around for a few minutes, or changes locations to one that has low light, read something "boring."
      11. Work on a hobby from 10 pm to 11 pm. The goal was to not focus on "to do" items, only on something pleasurable.
      12. Get some exercise but not after 9 pm.
      13. Write down "to do's" or "to-worry-abouts" then put it away.
      14. Schedule 2 twenty minute "meditation breaks" during the day.

      I didn't know exactly how little it was until I could see the data. Plus, it had been sporadic. Around the time I got the fitbit, is when it hit critical mass. I knew I was super tired, that I was awake a lot, but seeing the actual numbers was a huge driver to get some help.

      Sometimes you don't know if you are just closing your eyes or really sleeping. It's terrible, I went through it. Or sometimes you are sleeping so lightly it doesn't even register as sleep.

    I sleep less than an hour a day and on many days don’t sleep at all. This is insomnia has been happening for almost a year now. It’s killing me I can’t stand it anymore. Sleep medications and cbti are useless. This might be a brain condition for me maybe something like fatal insomnia.

      It is not fatal insomnia unless people in your family tree have had it trust me I had the same anxiety issue as well and the only way that I calmed myself down is by medications and telling myself that if I had that I won’t be able to sleep at all, also in that disease your body will breakdown from the inside and you won’t even be able to walk or read or write

      I feel your pain. Chronic insomnia for 3 years. I wake up multiple times during the night. Im exhausted daily. At 54 its a struggle, im very irritable. Tried everything, nothing works but Lunesta occasionally. I may just take it every night. I don't no what else to do. Sorry for your pain

      ​@michaelthau1007 I've been experiencing chronic insomnia for 5yrs now😢 somedays better than most. I take Lunesta once a week, but it only gives me 2-3 hours of sleep. I'm not going to take it every night because I don't want to get addicted. I

    CBT-I certified physicians are very rare.
    There are only 2 in the entire state of Michigan.
    There are many counselors and psychologists who claim to teach CBT-I, but none of them are actually certified physicians.
    I simply use medication for insomnia, because there is no other viable treatment available.

      Hi Gy Bx what medication do you use if I may ask? I'm suffering from severe insomnia and my doctor just tells me to take benadryl or melatonin after trazodone not working for me.

      @@ashishjha9263 I am 29. My doctor says I need to try sleep compression therapy, but I think the main issue is my neck it has been stiff for so long. I am trying to see a neurologist. Hang in there friend I hope we find help soon.

    Many times whe she starts talking she has a smacking noise, or whatever you medical people call it, so what condition is that? That probably would lead you to a neurological condition that would cause sleep issues.

      Carolin Elieh I agree but you develop a dependency on it unfortunately and that hardly solves anything. Once I quit smoking indica before bed I wasn’t ever able to sleep and I was dependent on it to sleep, it took me a few weeks of quitting to actually get a good night of sleep. And it was the same with other people I know who would need weed to sleep.

      smoking weed is harmful to the lungs which affects breathing...ingesting weed orally through tinctures or edibles is the only safe way to consume marijuana, while young most people can tolerate smoke in the lungs but the tar can damage the ability to have effective oxygen exchange which means your body works harder than it need to and creates stress
