About 7-8 years ago i was on car meets nearly every weekend, but about 3 years ago it really changed. Maybe it's a thing over here in Germany but in the last years the hate between specific builds or car brands just got out of control. I've seen people be not respectful to the cars, leaning on them or scratching them, putting bubble gum on the paint, spilling drinks over them or spitting on the cars. I only come to really small meets, maybe 10-20 cars, from people i know, no more bigger meets. And the other time i spend on doing motorsport or wrenching with my buddies, there is no place for the haters in my life.

Great video. As someone who normally goes to 20+ meets a year, I can honestly say that most are like how this video portrays. Here in Illinois, the season normally begins late February depending on if the weather permits. Most are posted on social media and are officially held by permit so we don't get much trouble from the cops unless people start obnoxiously revving or doing dumb shit. The ones started by dumbasses who just meet up in a parking lot usually end badly.
That takeover bullshit doesn't happen too often where I am but it's heavily looked down upon people in the car community because it ruins things for people who actually enjoy cars.

I learn the most about different cars, my own car, and working on cars from talking to other people. I have a 2004 WRX and just being a part of the subaru community is huge to me.
But the biggest thing I get from going to car meets is just it helps motivate me a little to stay into cars. See, I was always into video games, comics, etc, and the thing that helped me get into cars a little is knowing that they're out there. I may never get super powers, become super rich, or anything I see in the media. But if I work really hard, do what it takes, and stay motivated, I can have a car that itself is worth something one day. I can have something really cool one day, I can have what to most people is impossible.
Car meets you can not only meet like minded people, but you can also meet people who know what it takes to get there. I can talk to the guy with a GTR or Porsche 911. I can ask the guy who owns a Hellcat what the pros and cons of it are, how he got there, and what he pays.
I remember my first dream car was a 2004 WRX STi, and I worked my ass off to get the 2004 WRX I have now. It wasn't exactly the Subaru Rally Blue STi, but it is modded to have about as much power as an STi and look the part too minus the badging. I never upbadge, if one should ask if it is an STi, imma tell em' it's a base WRX. Though it has beaten newer STis.
But having attained what I used to call my dream car, it makes it worth it in many ways. I no longer pine after cars and even though I still look at online ads for various cars, I always reach the same conclusion. " I don't really want a new car, I just want a car that doesn't have the problem my WRX does."
Then I usually seek out to fix it. Which the community is amazing for, I find my subaru enthusiasts specifically because I live in Wisconsin and I even work with one and he has so much knowledge and experience dealing with just not only subarus but cars in general. I have met soo many subaru people around here and online even, buying parts is easy, working on them is easy, though it helps I am a mechanic, and it is more reliable than people give them credit for.

not that anyone asked, but for me car meets are like going to an art museum. you've got history, different perspectives, and new ideas. This is why I love diverse car meets. Ive built my cars based on things ive seen from many different cars. everything from American muscle to jdm builds.

A major distinction I found was between Car Meets vs Cars & Coffees... C&Cs tend to be significantly more civilized and focused around the culture. Car meets tend to have more peacocking.

been to one cars and coffee and one organised event in my whole life and I don't even have a car but even without a car its fun, seeing different styles, colours etc etc. As a young Car enthusiast I think its important that the elderly show us how to properly behave at one :). Because of those two meets I just can't wait to be apart of another one

I miss the car meets. I’m about an hour west of Chicago and every time you go to meets they are shut down before I get there by police. They were definitely some of my favorite times though. Maybe this summer it will be different.

You know what guys, I'm glad that gears and gasoline made this video. I had just recently acquired a Subaru Impreza 2.2 l gc8, which is a rare car to get but when I got this car there is exterior and interior damage, but the car never had any issues. I've made it my mission all through 2021 to get this car the way I wanted it so I can go to car meets, but things just didn't spin off the way that I wanted it to. I thought that I wasn't going to go to a car meet anytime soon because I had to work on my car and I felt embarrassed driving it the way that it is. Another thing that social media does when it comes to car culture, is depending on the person sometimes it will make other people's projects look inferior and it makes the other person not want to interact with car culture even though they have a very high interest in those things. That's how I felt. I go to school for mechanics but I also want to be an F1 racer on the track. But, social media made it seem like my project was inferior the car that I drove was inferior and I thought that I was just not going to go to these car meets again. But, after watching just halfway through this video you guys are convinced me that despite where my car is in my build I should still have a good time and enjoy the car culture, and enjoy meeting new faces. That's another thing where I felt like I wasn't going to excel in. Meeting new people and meeting faces because of my car. Currently, my goal for 2022 (Happy New Year!) Is to get my car as much prepped as I can for paint etc but even if I can't do those things and have the body kit on just yet I'm still going to attend a car meet. I think you guys have encouraged me enough to go despite where my car is in my build. My own fam even fusses at me for not getting out the house and exploring what I like doing lol. I will also say this, you're not going to find me at these takeovers. They're stupid. And I honestly don't see a point in going to them. But I do like the park and chill ones. I also would like the exotic ones too. I think those are the ones I'm going to spend most of my time going to. Thanks for the video and happy New Year everyone! If you live out here in socal, you might just see me there at one of these meets, maybe.

@@yaskienugraha3343 thanks for that, bro I appreciate it. I'm actually going to be putting in parts with my friend today, he just has to go to his house and pick up a few couple tools. I've been really excited to finally put some of the stuff on the Subaru and bring out the best of it. It's not done, but it definitely won't be bone stock when I'm done with it. Lol. As far as these car meets in cali, a lot of them just end up being takeovers and at that point, I'd rather just take my ass home. Or find a peaceful place and drive somewhere else. Too many damn toxic people at these takeovers bro.

I enjoy car meets, but in my town (Greenville, NC) most of the car meets get shut down, someone crashes, or someone starts shooting. I go to 1 car show a month in Winterville and that's because the police patrol the meet.

This video has just come at the right time ,thanks G and G :)

I'm the same way, always working on getting my Crown "perfect" before a car meet. My advice is if it's a general car meet not specific to your pride and joy, take a daily driver instead, or go in a friend's car 👍

You don't have to show anything off if you don't want to. Even showing up in something like a Nissan Versa is fine, but going, seeing and talking to people can be really cool

Just remember why you got into cars. It's hardly ever about what's done to the car or sometimes even what that car is. As long as you enjoy the car and have fun that's all that matters. I've seen people have the most fun in bone stock cars.

    • @ericsson_motorsports
      @ericsson_motorsports 2 года назад

It really doesn't matter what car you drive, even before I had a car at all I'd get a ride in our family's beat up daily driver to go to meets. Car meets are about meeting new people and talking about cars. The only time where it matters if your car is perfect is at car shows where the cars are actually judged, even then it's just a lighthearted competition. Besides, you own an Evo, even if you see a lot of flaws in it I'm sure people would appreciate seeing it. Maybe you can even find other Evo owners and ask them for advice about the future of your project

If you go to morning or any day time meet in general it's always chill and most people bring cars that are still a work in progress. I was the same but I stopped caring about what people think.
