    while laying on your back your coccyx can not move naturally backwards away from the baby's head. upright positions in labour help the baby to go down faster and make room in your birthing canal and your pelvis. to open the end of your birthing canal (using this effect here) you can go down on hands and knees (maybe hands higher than knees), knees hip-wide apart, feet far apart. this position reduces the risk of birthing injuries and allows you to birth self-determined. deep squatting also helps to widen ur pelvis at the end of birth.
    it does not matter what is easier for the midwife or the doctor! labour means moving and is kind of like gymnastic. dance your babies into this world! it is YOUR birth. (from a midwife to be)

    • @liveandlove._.
      @liveandlove._. Год назад +20

      Yes, by right women are supposed to give birth while squatting instead of laying down because gravity helps to push the baby out and your pelvic(I think) opens up more to allow the baby to pass through.
      Women laying down became the norm because some weird ass king back then found it fascinating to watch his mistresses give birth and if they squat it would limit his view. And even though that king is more than likely dead hospitals let us do this because it is the most painful way and they want to make more money by selling pain killers to women. It also increases the chances of you getting a tear and they want this so that they can charge you more. So yeah it's pretty sad.

    • @autumnskye5010
      @autumnskye5010 Год назад +10

      Yup squatting is the natural way humans should be having babies, the strain on your back is released allowing for a less painful birth.

  • @truthfullytold1436
    @truthfullytold1436 Год назад +97

    I've had 8 natural births and if I may be honest, this position described in this video is the most straining. The moment u stop pushing( while in this position)the baby's head is sucked back in. Round after round of pushing and nearly bursting blood vessels the baby is making inch by inch progress. You are told repeatedly to push even harder on the next contraction to over power the suction. Eventually the baby will come out, but only after numerous of rounds of pushing against gravity. All this even after curling your pelvis under pushing in the lower location. Ladies I've learned that every birth is not the same, so doctors cannot expect all women to deliver babies in the same way. My advice would be to lay on your side that's most comfortable, lift one leg and curl inwards while giving strong long pushes. That baby will come out a bit faster and easier than this position in this video.

    • @DanceePinkston
      @DanceePinkston  Год назад +11

      Absolutely agree. Freeing the sacrum would make even more room! Thank you for your advice to the mommas as well! This video is mainly showing the change in the diameter of the pelvic outlet as the knees turn inward…When the knees are outward the pelvis closes.

    • @kellyc2683

      Is squatting or getting on your hands & knees a better position or is laying on your side still the best?

    • @cccynova
      @cccynova Год назад +10

      @@kellyc2683 I delivered my 6 babies naturally, at home and/or with a midwife. Most of them, I delivered on my knees, sometimes leaning over a ball. The easiest ones were delivered in a birth pool, one on my knees and one leaning back but literally floating in the water. (While I was floating through an intense contraction, the whole baby slipped out!!) However, with my 5th baby, she was sunny-side-up and I didn't realize it. It caused her head to be in such a position that I pushed for almost half an hour with NO progress, and finally we tried a couple different positions until finally, the midwife had me lie on my side with my husband holding the top leg up as high as possible, with me pushing with all my might and the midwife twisting the baby around to untangle the cord so she had enough slack to emerge completely. Her cord was wrapped tightly around her neck, chest, and arm so that she could not turn into the right position nor even come out all the way until untangled. The midwife was surprised that the cord didn't cause the baby distress, as a cord wrapped up tightly can restrict the blood and oxygen going through the cord. Anyway, my point was that my easiest births were on my knees (or floating in a pool), and my most difficult was on my side but NOT BECAUSE of the side-lying position. It was just that the side-lying position was the only way we could find to open up my pelvis enough to birth a front-facing baby - and even then it was very difficult. Without a brave, knowledgable and experienced midwife present, we could have had either an emergency c-section or a sad outcome.

    • @truthfullytold1436
      @truthfullytold1436 Год назад +3

      @Kelly C what ever feels better. I just know for certain it made my last 3 births so much easier. My 6th birth it took 3 pushes, the 7th it took 4 pushes, and with my last, my 8th birth, I didn't push at all. I rode out my contractions on my left side with my right knee bent to my right shoulder. The baby worked himself down with every contraction, quite quickly actually and my stomach naturally caved in without my control and extracted the baby

The nurses didn’t help me much or offer advice that actually did anything for me. No one told my husband how to help and he was waiting for my instructions, like I could think clearly enough to ask him to do anything. I just wanted my mother there but the nurses were treating her like crap. I won’t even start about my postnatal care… I never want to do a hospital birth again. I never want to be in a hospital ever again. Now I have to fight for my daughter to not be fucked over by the medical system for at least the next 18 years.

    For the most part, the best positions for labour and birth are positions where you are utilising gravity. Squatting, kneeling, all fours, leaning over a bed, ball or chair.
    I honestly can't believe modern hospital practices haven't caught up to the fact that we know this.
    I really get tired of the "lay on your back and feet in stirrups" approach medical professionals have with birth because it's "easier" for them. What matters is what's easier for the WOMAN. You can birth in whatever position you like and if they need to sneak a peak that's what a dam mirror is for that they can use.

So, I could only lay on my side, grabbing the rail and yelling from the extra hard and fast contractions. But baby did come pretty fast once the team came in (after I told my husband 'ring of fire' call them in). I really just wanted them there in case there was a cord or bleeding problem). Yes, they put my feet up, legs apart, I think it only took 5or 6 pushes. But man that pitocin! I wish they would gave turned it down when I asked. Yes! Kneeling/ hands and knees would be great to allow the sacrum room to expand! Even better with this inverted position of the legs.

    Laying on your back is uncomfortable for the child and mom not to mention it creates a smaller curvix area a better way is on your knees ass up most comfortable for mom and baby less stressful and more efficient 😊

    Видимо для того, чтобы женщина при родах не уткнулась лицом вниз и не упала на живот, стоя на коленях, когда по каким-то причинам ей станет плохо, и кладут её на специальный стол…

    This is not true. I have seen laboring mums squat and it’s not effective. You have to go with what is comfortable and safer for mum. Remember not all pelvic anatomy are the same. Also remember, 90% of women are using modern medicine aka epidurals so that maybe the safest position for them. In summary, what is best for mum is the best position.

    His love is unconditional, his love is real, his love is unfailingly, he saves from spiritual, physical and eternal death. He is the only God that forgives and forgets, he gives a new beginning. Come and taste that the Lord is good. Jesus love you and me! Give him a chance, even again! Rom 8:38-39, Psalm 33:5

      Knees in ankles out is what opens the pelvic outlet to its widest diameter. Women find it easiest to do in the hands and knees position with ankles out. 🥰

      Every day I'm reminded with nightmares that I was surgically removed from my mom, this choice is traumatic to the baby and leaves you open to permanent injury or risk later. Heaven forbid you get pregnant again and there's no option for you but vbac.
