We were quite pleased, it turned out way better than I imagined. That's usually not the case. It really gives visitors a sense of how grand this house was at one time.
The window looks fantastic! Your talent and ability turned it from a plywood insert, into an eye catching feature that nicely fills in, until the original one is restored, hopefully funded by a rich benefactor!
Thanks for the compliment. Up close it's a little messy but from the ground it looks good. It's a good thing we didn't have to get anything perfectly straight like you do.🙂
Jaine, I was thinking. Your grid method is really good, but there’s another way to do it, if you decide in the future. Use an overhead projector and project a picture of the original window on to the plywood. Sketch the detail in and then paint. I’m not really sure which way is best. What you’ve done is coming out truly nice. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙂 BTW: When you started the window, I thought that you could’ve replaced the ply with inexpensive plexiglass. The plexi would backlight naturally as real stained glass and the surface would be smoother to paint. Just my thoughts.. 😘
That/s a great idea. I remember doing that in school. We did sonsider plexiglass but the cost was too great by the time you add up all the labor to remove the plywood, build a frame, etc. It would require lots of real scaffolding and Ricardo and his crew for a couple of days to do.
You and all the wonderful women working with you are doing an amazing job. You've come a long way and if I were not in NJ I would come down and help all of you. I would like to say, for safety sake, when I was much younger my neighbor, an older gentleman, told me that you should never leave your ladder standing. Always close it smaller or lay it down. I fear that it could be bumped and destroy your beautiful art work. I love your amazing abilities to conquer all the aspects of this project. 🎀
We are lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers. NJ is a long way away but I'm glad you can follow along with the restoration here on RUclips. If you ever do get down this way we'd love to give you a personal tour of the house. Thanks for passing along the safety tip.
It looks so much better in person. We were very happy with the results. For people touring the house it gives them a sense of just how grand it was when first built.
Heather and Janie are eyeing the parlor ceiling but it would have to be a much more carefully planned job and some finely detailed painting. Definitely not a two day, throw it together, sort fo thing. It could be a very grand space.
What a great idea this was, it makes the entrance so much nicer. Too bad there isn't any light coming through, but it is what it is and it makes such a difference to that area. Good job both of you!
It is nice to see this when you first step inside the house. We shined a work light up on it from the ground and it really helps it pop. We probably need to get a small spot light for it.
We are working on some ideas to do some stained glass inspired items for our gift shop and online store. These windows really are a unique feature of this house.
Funny you should mention that. We've been kicking around ideas for setting up a seperate fund for the stained glass and doing some small, side fundraising projects for it. Since it is a vine pattern a plant sale sounds like a wonderful idea.
Amazed at how it turned out. I see why you wanted to be as close to the original. And, I mean, if it’s going to up for nearly a decade, you want it done right and done well! The more you completed it, the more excited I got to see the final result. I’m going to say it again, inspires me with my own project roadblocks to be okay when it just has to take longer than I want it to! For the doors, may I suggest carbide scrapers? Just a $16 Husky brand did WONDERS on one of my dressers with FOUR coats of stubborn old paint applied throughout time. Like, it SHED right through ALL FOUR layers at the same time. Every location you go to has such charming background echos of yesteryear to admire.
I'm happy you liked the end result. I love having it be close to the original, too. That way, people can really get a sense of the potential this house has when fully restored. Thanks for the recommendation on the scrapers. We will check them out.
@@bobzwife The gorilla ladder is still very heavy compared to a standard aluminum or fiberglass A frame ladder. If you don't need all the fancy configurations you may want to rethink. But if you are already using the older model, it is a few pounds lighter than the original.
@Freedom-wu6bm we are also well, I've been tied up with catching up on my jobs at work, but I've been pottering around with some really awesome jobs in my spare time, I'll start the videos up again, later this week! Cheers, Mike
Don't you just hate it when real work interferes with the things you really want to be working on. With this broken ankle I'm going to have time to catch up on your videos. I've been watching on the big tv lately so I haven't commented on each one but as always, you are amazing.

What a great idea. I will get on it.
Post a link for us when you are done. There are many of us who would like to help!
You should be very pleased.
The results are wonderful.

Can't believe you could freehand those lattice lines! This was a genius idea...beautiful result.👍🥰🌸
Thanks. It was a really fun project
Wow!! What a difference it makes to the whole area!! Bravo!
It's a big change. It gives us glimpse into the future.
So beautifully done, Janie!
Thank you so much! We had so much fun we started on another project.
WOW! what a great job you two, it looks amazing!
Thank you so much! We ha da good time working on it. We already started on a new project.
I'm SO glad you got down from that ladder! This house needs you in one piece to keep working on bringing her back to her full magnificence!
Agree!!!
Well, the ladder didn't get me but walking up the driveway today sure did. I rolled my ankle and now can't walk. It's always the silly stuff.
@@leaguekempnerhouse Egads. A few days with foot up...and some much needed rest?! Maybe have it x-rayed to be sure?
This looks amazing! And it looked even more amazing to walk into the house and see it. This was a wonderful idea.
That's way better than the old, grey foxes.
Thatks. We are extremely happy with how it turned out.
Always love how you explain everything so well. Please be careful on those ladders. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you. The ladders look much scarier on video than they are in person. Heather is a pro at this. Janie knows her limits.
Beautiful - amazing what a little “faux” can do to elevate the look of your work site 🇨🇦
That is so true. It was such a simple project, and it completely changed the whole look of the house when you enter.

One day these beautiful windows will come home.

Nice job!! It looks really good. Can't believe it was done with leftover paints.🤯❤️🤍💙
Thanks. Between the two of us we have tons of miscellaneous paint. Although, Heather has much prettier colors than I do.
So clever and artistic.
Thanks. It turned out better than expected.
OMG...it looks AWESOME ...its beautiful that was a great idea FABULOUS

Thanks. We love it.
The faux stained glass looks great. It will be so wonderful when you can use those talents on some of the permanent details of the restoration.

VERY nice work!! Looks great! 😊👍
Thank you very much!
I'm going to get a shirt made that says, "I'm just here to poop on your party"

Now we can call your Team "The Stained Glass Fauxs" 🙂
Gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
Girl you really can do anything! I want to be just like you. 😊

Much prettier view for the years ahead you may be waiting for the real ones.
That was our goal. We sure do miss these beautiful windows.
Bob Ross would be impressed. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great update on the window its looking great 2x👍
Thanks. I thing Bob Ross and I are hair twins!
Wow! I can’t love this enough! I’d love to be a volunteer. I’m in WV but my cousin lives in Houston. Hmmmm… might be time for a vacation!
You should definitely come visit! We had some volunteers come from California and work for a day. Every pair of extra hands helps.
This realy turn out beautiful.
When your get the real glass put back you can sell this painting.

Nice job Janie, you did a great job on it! I'm just wondering, what needs to be done to the actual stained glass windows? Mike.
Unfortunately, they have to be completely taken apart and re-camed. They have some very bad damage.
Yay! Been waiting for this video! 🎉
I hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we loved doing it!
15:59 yes, you are fabulous! It looks great!
Thanks. It really changes the look of the space.
I have such ladder envy, cause that ladder seems so much easier to use than MY adjustable ladder
It is a new version that is a few pounds lighter. It is so versitile. Homedepot has them onsale for $99 right now. You might consider replacing yours.
@@leaguekempnerhouse as a mini person (I'm 4'11") a ladder that's easier to use would be great, I'm gonna go check that out! Thanks for the tip!

We love Frank and Carry. They certainly have their hands full. Mrs. Mooreland is so much more damaged than the League-Kempner House.
