That is something I think about all the time with this saga. You'd think that Dudley's crew would be able to figure out his schemes and stop him, but they don't. So, are they just NPCs to this whole thing, or are they as evil as he is?
I think two things about this comments. 1. Either they're nice peoples trying to actually help him. Or 2. They're just evil as Dudley and just went along with it without questioning him.
I like to think that they side with Dudley and are as evil as him because of fear of loosing the job they are so tightly integrated in, as BR has done massive layoffs before
I really love how Dudley's angry face has his mouth shaped EXACTLY like Diesel 10's mouth when he's angry. It's the small little details like this that show us that Dudley can be just as twisted and sociopathic as the vast majority of corrupted diesels he's resented for years.
OK, this may be opening up a Pandora's Box, but would it be Crazy that Dudley was the past version of Diesel 10 (and he was semi scrapped, like he got kinda rebuild into Diesel 10 and but his ghostly spirit Roams on the rails)
You can feel the sense of Dudley's eyes twitching as he sees the sanctuary he planned for himself shattering in front of him. He knew his fate was sealed the minute he stepped off Sodor, yet he refused to go down without a fight...his pride and vitriol were his downfall.
What a conclusion. My favourite shot has to be where Dudley lunges forward when saying "You will remember me!" I think this definitely confirms my theory about Dudley. That theory being: He is the scrap engine we see in 'Demons'. One: Similar shape. Two: Similar sounding voice. (Not because these are narrated by the same person) and Three: Identical faces albeit with wrinkles. There was even a model by SodorRyModeler on Twitter long before the Dudley stories were written which was where my theory came from.
It's possible, but at the same time, it seems the scrap engine was a 2-10-0, albeit not a 9F class. However, it seems like it could easily have been a 2-8-0 instead, and everything else lines up well, so who knows?
@@Railman1225 No, the scrap engine is a 2-10-0. If you look closely, you can see that one pair of driving wheels in the middle is conspicuously missing
Perfect timing for Halloween! Dudley's story is a cautionary one for all of us. Prejudice, not even if it's somewhat understandable, is nonetheless unfair and will eventually bite you in the... um... bunker and will instead haunt YOU forever instead of others. "Demons" made us sure of that. I'm glad that Bear's name was cleared, he's a great engine! One of my favorite Railway Series characters! The voice acting, the camera angles, perfect! A++! I look forward to seeing more stories from Carson's Video Workshop this season!
What I like about this adaptation is how Dudley’s eyes are jittering as Sir Topham tells him that he must leave Sodor. He knows full well that he’ll be scrapped if he goes back to the mainland, and seeing his only hope of survival collapse right before his eyes just breaks him. And this guy really had the nerve to *stare down Sir Topham* without a second thought. You somehow made Dudley even more intimidating than he had any right to be. Major praise to you!
@sonicscott9119 Indeed! I'd like to believe that he was broken by seeing his brothers get scrapped, which drove him to taking a turn for the worse. He soon forgot about them, and only cared for himself. He didn't want any help, knowing that many other railways treated every engine with separate care, thus none of their actions would do a thing. He assumed the same thing of the NWR. He fought for his place on the railway in the form of competing all the other engines. He was afraid of Sir Topham Hatt scrapping him, even though he knew Sodor was a safe-haven for steam engines. Ultimately, he proved himself a powerful engine, but in all the wrong ways. The Fat Controller has standards for physical _and_ moral strength. At first, Dudley excelled in the former, but even that collapsed due to his lacking in the latter, especially when he endangered his entire train of passengers for the sake of spiting a diesel.
@@nickbritt1145 Which makes Bear Hagrid in this sense. Oh yeah, and in my book, Henry is Hermione (Yeah, that's right. I said it.), considering his long absence, both from his usual working order due to his morning accident and in the overall saga as a whole, yet he still gave his friend Donald some advice to stop Dudley despite that.
"It is survival, the only thing that matters in this age of scrap!" 6:42 absolutely wonderful! I always love to see the viewpoint of the '60s and such from the engine's perspective
Kind of Reminds me of Simerski's old British Railway Series. It's a wonderfully interesting seeing how each engine in the 50s/60s reacts differently to the oncoming advent of modernization and scrap. I dare say, Carson captured that feeling extremely well.
There's some debate whether the scrap engine in Demons is Dudley or not. The model is distinctly different, but the author of both stories, TheBuriedTruck, likes the idea that it is the same engine.
Jesus, Dudley charging the Fat Controller was nerve racking, I would've lost my footing for sure. I'm surprised Toad was so calm and friendly after that.
He didn't even do anything that time...Dudley did all that to him. My boy was just minding his business this entire saga. I appreciate the screentime, but leave him alone...he didn't do nothin' that time.😫
That scene of Dudley inching closer to Toad and literally coming face to face with the Fat Controller shows how cross he really is in that moment, and how ruthless he is altogether. I hope we can see more of him, despite his saga now coming to a close. Well done again, Carson.
That ending, oh. my. lord. I had known that dudley would become the scrap engine but this just nails the coffin in even more, the shot of him creeping out of the darkness was eerily beautiful, followed by the music from demons adds to the ominous atmosphere. Great work Carson!
@@havoc3742 The reason its a 2-10-0 is because there wasn't a model of Dudley for trainz at the time, If you were to refer to SodorRYModeler and the model he made of the scrap engine, its an O2, the same engine as Dudley
In fact, I wonder if we'll be getting a Bear and Richard story! After all, between Dudley and Richard, I believe all the visiting and/or staying steamers were all small shunters. Dudley might've left a bad taste of trauma in Bear's mouth, though the ending narration _does_ demonstrate his willingness to move on and treat all his fellow engines with love, respect, and dignity.
What if both Dudley and Richard were in the same scrapyard before Dudley was scrapped . We already know through Henry’s Bargain that Richard was already sentenced to the cutter’s torch and if it wasn’t for Henry, Richard would have suffered the same fate.
@@matheusdealmeida1279 There are a couple bits of info that debunks that is that in the Flashback sequence of "The Boat Train." We see Richard sitting in a siding reflecting the words: "But things changed." you can see Richard is beginning to rust, meaning he probably sat in that siding for a long time. In the "Upside Down" music video, one of the last shots showed the Class 40 Diesel pulling alongside Richard as he sat in the siding, hauling a flatbed for Richard. Indicating Richard was saved by Henry after Class 40 brought him out of the siding on the flatbed.
That's what I have been thinking.. Richard would hear part of the story from Henry, first! Then Bear and then Donald. I would get the impression that Richard would have been disappointed with Dudley. With Gordon and James confirming it through pained regret. And wouldn't it just be the case that Richard takes Dudley to the Scrapyard - in a dilapidated condition and beyond any repair - after his Driver and Fireman left him in a scrap siding. And that's likely to be the end of Dudley..
@@matheusdealmeida1279 you have to remember that the stories involving Dudley took place - some years even some decades before Richard was rescued by Henry. Richard was probably pretty much the positive result of a engine like him being rescued by the NWR And the Fat Controller! Bear and Boco were there. Mavis and Salty and Daisy so that places the Stories of Dudley around the mid 1960's - from what I can extrapolate Richard was found by Henry in the mid-1970's possibly the mid 1980's - steam fell out of use in the years after Beeching's cuts in the 1960's. Steam Locomotive fell out of use but hadn't been phased out of complete use until the early 1970's - however heritage railways sprang up afterwards! One of these was the NWR ! I know of one near me at Bitton close to Bristol. Swanage is another. And close by to Lake Windermere in Cumbria. I'm sure there are others as well!
I’ll say it again, this is the best adaptation of these stories I’ve seen to date. This episode in particular is chef’s kiss for me. There’s so many little details in this, like the eye twitch of Dudley in the confrontation or that haunting shot of him coming slowly out of the dark at the end (which really got me when I noticed the model) that add so much. Definitely my favorite detail though is Dudley lurching forwards and getting in Topham’s face when he snarls out he won’t be forgotten. That’s not something I’ve ever seen in any other adaptation and it makes it so much more impactful, so well done. Also, my favorite aesthetic shot is the one of Dudley steaming away into the sun, with the top-down camera over the train. The music also highly compliments that scene, it’s wonderful.
7:35 That’s the first time I’ve seen an adaptation where the Fat Controller actually looks like he’s holding back laughing at Toad’s sarcasm. The attention to detail and overall quality of the Dudley Stories have been a joy to watch! Thank you for making amazing content!
There was one other adaptation (I forgot who made it tbh) that showed him smiling but most of the adaptations interpreted the narrator's line differently
I always wondered why BuriedTruck mentioned “the Fat Controller fought to hold his composure.” I thought it was due to his emotional turmoil over sending an engine away, most likely taking away his only chance for survival. This is a much funnier, but possibly even more plausible take. Only thing is I don’t think Toad was being sarcastic. I think he was genuine, but it killed the tension, making the fat controller almost laugh.
@@ToastTheThe I always thought his fight for composure was because he felt exhausted after the confrontation and saddened over having to remove his hand of protection from an engine who, realistically speaking, has nowhere else to go.
Whoa. I love the way you focused so much camera work on Dudley when the game was up. See how his expressions shifted left to right? How he puffed up to Toad and STH menacingly? You are practically a filming _genius!_ 👍 At the end, you could say that Dudley had gone full on Darth Sidious, his face decaying from the effects of the dark side. Love STH's laughing face. 😆
I absolutely love the foreshadowing from the thumbnail and the idea that Dudley is the same engine as the scrap one seen in Demons. I never really thought about it but the faces do look the same and it feels like it'd be quite the twisted yet ironic fate for an engine like Dudley, especially when he too was a twisted and sociopathic engine. He made it back to Sodor, his supposed "safe haven" but certainly not in the way he intended. The fact his angy/scowl face looks similar to D10 really adds to that too, it really gives off the idea that despite being a steam engine he's still just as twisted as the diesel engines he resents. I won't lie, I absolutely _love_ the addition of Dudly moving closer to Toad and The Fat Controller too, like a kind of "getting in your face" gesture, it really gives more oomph to the delivery of Dudley's "But you _will_ remember me." before backing away. Phenomenal work on this Carson and thank you for connecting the dots between this series and Demons, especially with the creaking noises and light flickers at the end, similar if not the exact same as to what we also see in Demons.
Dudley lurching forward to the Fat Controller really hammers the point that he is an enormous locomotive who can quite easily crush the Controller if he felt inclined to. He's not just a talking train in a family friendly show; he's a vengeful engine who can main and kill if provoked.
This adaption gave me literal chills... DCG12B's cold and sinister Dudley narration really adds to his personality. That touch you added of him rolling up to The Fat Controller in Toad really added to the impact of the scene, Dudley really felt menacing in that moment! That closing scene... I was really curious what approach you were going to take with that. Most adaptions go with Dudley's ghost in his prime, making a high speed dash towards Sodor. This one feels a lot more sinister, it's like his anger and desire for vengeance is keeping him barely alive and he's using that to force his rusted hulk of a body to Sodor, no matter how long it takes. Were the Ironworks where he met his final fate? Or did he reach the island and stop there, laying low among the scrap until the time is right? Where he was disturbed by his Class 08 counterpart. I'm hoping that one day, we'll get a final dark story where Dudley the "Demon" Engine comes face to face with those that in his mind sentenced him to death.
Theory time: Dudley *did* find a new home…only for him to fall back into bad habits, get kicked out, rinse and repeat until he ended up back on Sodor as the rusted hulk from “Demons”- hence his title of “the Vagrant Engine”.
@@christianwright5874 Nice theory! I have my own personal take too. When Dudley got back on British Railways territory, he was found out for sabotaging the train that spamcan was taking to Sodor at the start of the story. BR contacted the Fat Controller about Dudley, asking him if he caused any troubles during his unauthorised time on Sodor. The Fat Controller being the kind man he is, told them nothing of Dudley’s antics in hopes that Dudley got a second chance with BR and a shot at redeeming himself for the events that happened on Sodor. Unfortunately, rather than change his ways. Dudley came back from Sodor a much more aggressive and bitter engine. He didn’t see himself or his actions as the problem, it was everyone else against him. When BR management came to speak to Dudley, he threatened them, just like he did The Fat Controller…. This sealed his fate. Dudley was withdrawn immediately and sent to Central Wagon Co, Ince near Wigan, he was placed in a hollowed structure, the roof had long gone and he was left to the elements. During this time, he let his rage and desire for vengeance fully consume him. Time passed, and Dudley rusted more and more. One cold, cloudy autumn night, the scrapyard workers came up to Dudley with blowtorches in hand. They started with cutting off his smokebox door. In what would be considered his final words, Dudley cursed the Island of Sodor, he cursed Sir Topham Hatt and he cursed Bear, swearing he would drag the Hymek to scrap himself. Then silence… off came Dudley’s smokebox door. He was gone… Bear woke up with a shiver that night. He wasn’t sure why, but he felt a deep sense of dread. The weather took a turn for the worse, the scrap workers decided to leave the job of scrapping Dudley’s remains for another time. The scrapyard became busy and Dudley’s scrapping was continually put off until the time could be found to finish the job. After that night, strange things began to happen. Some workers claimed they could hear the engine’s remains whispering. Some claimed they felt like it was watching them with evil intent despite its missing smokebox door. Others say that during cold, misty nights they could see a twisted scrap covered face with blood shot eyes on the engine, an evil smirk on its face. Other workers dismissed these claims and as a joke, they began to chalk some of these paranormal claims on the rusted remains. “Keep Away”, “Always Watches”, “No Eyes”, “Run” - they all thought it was a fun prod at their spooked colleagues expense! Nobody was laughing when they finally came to finish off the scrapping… The remains of the engine had vanished… All that they could see in its place was a collapsed building in which the scrap engine once sat inside. The workers searched every corner of the scrapyard that night. They never found the engine… It seemingly vanished, into the night… --------------------- Apologies if that turned into a bit of a story. I tend to get carried away when writing 😂 I had this idea floating around my head ever since seeing this photo of Dudley’s real life counterpart 63971 awaiting scrapping at Central Wagon Co., Ince, near Wigan. www.railwayherald.com/imagingcentre/view/301482/ST
@@sonicscott9119 I've seen a lot of different TTTE Writers over the years. I've even tried my hand at it myself, but there's always something missing from those stories. This. This is something else. The cadence, the structure, and the well planned out background... You have a serious talent for this!! I'd even say you could be making stories one day like BuriedTruck himself! Whatever you do, you should write this all into a proper RWS Series story! It would make for a fantastic adaptation in the future! Good Luck to you Friend! 😁I wish you fortune and success on your stories in the future!
Those transitions were so smooth! The music and visuals were lovely as well, and DCG12B's calm but emotional narration is always a delight! I loved this adaptation!
Dcg12b's come a *LONG* way since he began narrating Carson's videos. He stepped up his game so much in like a year or two that he sounds almost unrecognizable!
What a thrilling conclusion this was to one of my favorite story arcs. The thought that Dudley's fate ended like that is grueling, but so realistic. The cinematic feel of your videos has reached an all-time high with the Dudley saga as well, bravo!
I remember reading about how the scrap engine from Diesels Demons was Dudley's ghost, I wasn't sure if that was true but now I do! This honestly was amazing, when Dudley said "you will remember me" and lunged forward at the Fat Controller, that shows that he really is manipulative, evil, and not afraid to harm anyone to get what he wants. I love how you made Sir Topham Hatt laugh at Toads farewell to Dudley, that was brilliant! 😂😊👍 well done once again Carson!
Thank you, Carson and Co, for bringing us this beautiful quadrilogy! I knew the story well before the teaser dropped over five months ago. Most of us did. Regardless, I waited with anticipation every day for a new episode in the four-part series to come out. This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best adaption of Dudley the Vagrant Engine I've ever seen! The story is presented in an even more intense matter, from the visuals to the musical queues, and from the stylized narations to the extra bits of detail scattered throughout each and every scene. When Dudley's model was first unveiled in the teaser trailer, I was astonished to see just how different he looked with his new face. His scowl represented that of Diesel 10's, and he had a much younger look about him. While a slightly more chiseled face worked for previous adaptions, this new face truly suits this take on the character. It's so fitting that new expressions are revealed as the episodes go on, demonstrating how Dudley ultimately went from a silently scheming steamer, to a full-blown psychopathic villain. The scene where he lunged forward is the cherry on top for me! Personally, one of favorite expressions has to be his closed-eyes laughing face, which can be used for getting away with yet another deed...or, for worse, _laughing quietly as psychopathic villains do!_ Jje09, ya did _great!_ Going further into visuals, the thumbails are brutally fantastic. The first episode shows Dudley beside Bear, as if he's sneaking up on him. The second one shows how Dudley is at the center of the physical fire sparked from Bear's train, as well as the metaphorical spark that started what seemed to be Bear's fall from grace. Cannonball showcases Dudley fighting the storm he's physically trying to avoid, while also paralleling the peak of the storm he created for himself and Bear. The final thumbnail takes a dark turn, showing Bear, Donald, and Sir Topham Hatt watching Dudley being gruesomely grabbed by the piercing fingers of the smelter's claw. It's a horrifying visual that only _you_ could pull off so well! This laat thumbnail, in my opinion, can be interpreted as Dudley's point of view of his final act on Sodor..."Two grimey engines and an obese fat hat betrayed me to rust...they're no different than the fools on the other railways!" I'll go into more depth about this later. As for the music...it's amazing! I _really_ like how _It's just a burning memory_ by The Caretaker was the introductory credits song. Dudley became the forgotten blip in time he tried to overcome, and literally ended up as a burning memory in the scrapyards. The theme that played as he first entered the Big Station is astounding; it sounds akin to a snake charmer's flute, and has a lot of dissonance behind that hypnotyzing melody, paralleling his scheming undertones that are overshadowed by his pleasing facàde. As we dive deeper into his character during his monologuing, a piano playing on a high-octave plays the same melody from before, but with a creepier, more sinister theme. Interestingly, when Dudley was found out, I noticed that one of the queues from _Demons_ was used. Quite fitting, since he _is_ the scrap engine in that episode. Speaking of which, there's a lot of foreshadowing in these episodes...not only to the final act, but also to _Demons._ "Things always work out for honest, hard-working engines!" The other engines hoped he was right, and he _was._ It worked out for him, an honest, hard-working engine, but _not_ for Dudley. Even the Fat Controller Stated that "Deceit has no place on my railway." Furthermore, when Dudley was awoken by Bear, he scowls harshly, "You've disturbed my sleep!" This is the _same_ exact thing the scrap engine in _Demons_ said to Diesel. Needless to say, Dudley _is_ the scrap engine. Considering the fact TheBuriedTruck has even confirmed this to be true-that is, according to Dudley's lore recorded by the TTTE Fandom. Also, the last scene with Spamcan being tormented by Dudley's fantom makes me question something...in the post-credits scene in _All Eyes on Dennis,_ was the self-shunting train at Vicarstown _really_ being pushed by the Marklin engine, or was it Dudley trying to get around? Most-likely, it was Marklin, but it's fun to speculate...also, I wonder what would happen in Sodor's realm of the supernatural if Marklin's path intertwined with Dudley's? Lastly, DCG12b put in his _all_ for being the voice talent of this whole series! Every character was _not_ merely narrated...he _became_ the characters! I'm just in awe with all the work that was put into this whole project. It will remain a highly-regarded project for years to come, and a testament to how much the TTTE Fandom has learnt to master the craft of making its own specials with an Australian Train simulator. God bless you all, and I wish you nothing but smooth runnings! ~ Joseph trainonthetrack 10/21/2023
Damn. Just damn. I've loved the Dudley stories from day 1, but your take was genuinely amazing. While in some places it didn't fit too well, DGB giving Dudley a low, sinister voice amazing. The modelwork (especially on the star of the show himself) was impeccable! The scoring is also *french chef kiss*. Love how you made the low violin the main motif so to say for Dudley's theme. The confrontation was on point, the music, Dudley's eyes shaking with fury, Him pouncing at the fat controller! You truly feel the hate and fear and everything that's driven him to do the things he did. It is sad what became of him, and I am saddened by the fact we probably won't really get to see him in the future. Still, good job overall, and looking forward to what the video workshops produces next!
This...is your Magnum Opus. I don't see how anything can surpass the sheer craftsmanship of this piece of cinematography. The camera shots, the expressions, the music, everything. Dudley's downfall feels ever so satisfying here. Rest all you want, Dudley...it's only a matter of time before your sleep is disturbed.
I think Dudley is here on Sodor before and have some history. Rather nasty history. And also the narrator have done a great job especially voicing Dudley.
Really been enjoying the Dudley arc, everything from the narration, the visuals, model designs and faces. All of it is truly professional quality and up there with the railway and tv series content. You truly know how to bring intensity to Thomas and tell a story over a number of episodes.
What I seen today was unbelievable. I’ve read the stories, so it’s no surprises that I know the script. What I didn’t expect was your directing and the vision you saw. This one proves it. The creativity freedom and the music you put in is just phenomenal and inspiring. I plan on making an adaption of Dudley’s stories and will certainly use your versions as inspiration since they are top tier in my opinion. DCG12B performance, as always, is flawless. How he pull off Dudley’s lines is just perfect and sums up the character. I also love the lighting you gave. Feels very cinematic. I still wonder how Dudley’s spirit became a solid in Demons as I want to piece that together. The payoffs were definitely worth it. Can’t wait to see what’s to come next. Well done, Carson. Bravo!
Not going to lie, I got spooked when Dudley shot forward to Sir Topham Hatt. I was afraid he was going deliberately crash into the man and Toad! No one _ever_ gets in his face like that.
Well...considering everything else leading up to that moment, pretty sure Dudley had no real sense of tact or respect left. Once Topham could see through his mask, Dudley had no reason to be polite
This was a fantastic master piece adaptation of dudley the vagrant engine, you did amazing work in making this four part series, and this was definitely worth the wait. This is definitely one of my favourite adaptations of dudley the vagrant engine.
What a great conclusion! I thought I recognized that face with the old scrap engine from “Demons”! Dudley is the old scrap engine! Everything is perfect and it all makes sense! Brilliant work!
That move forward at the end of his monologue, oh so inspired! Gave me a bit of a start the first time around. Kept expecting a jumpscare at some point! This installment being so close to Halloween, I wouldn't have been too surprised... But now, I'm just tense and my anticipation is building for if we next see him When we next see him. I bet we won't see him coming
This was brilliant. I loved the way this was presented and Dudley's faces really did have a few sinister feels to them. He is one of the most deceitful characters we have ever seen. He really did show just how much of a threat he could be when he spoke to the Fat Controller.
This saga was sure so amazing! Even dare to say the best adaptation of these stories! With the top quality it’s eye candy to me! Can’t wait to see what else you’ll cook!
This makes makes me love dudley even more hes probably the best fanmade ttte character i have ever seen. You understand that he wants to find a home like the island of sodor but his true colors shows that he's a wicked engine that will do anything to get what he wants even if someone gets hurt. He's honestly way more evil than diesel 10, alfred, scruffy, sailor john, spencer, or even zorran and the zstacks. Carson if you are listening to this i just wanna say thank you for your work and the people that helped with the project. Keep up the good work.👍👌
Amazing Work on the Dudley saga Carson! I always find Dudley to have similar traits of Lotso from “Toy Story 3” despite these two characters not from the same universe. Although Dudley finally gets his comeuppance, Bear has become a more happier diesel. The saga just goes to show, there are dodgy characters you just cannot trust if you see what is in their behaviour.
Bravo Carson! You’re the master of tension! I loved the return of the creepy piano theme near the end, and I just want to shout out that shot of Dudley rolling through the yard with only his eyeline visible above the trucks - a crocodile stalking his target! Superb work mate
I love how Dudley sounds more insane and phsyco like the more he gets mad. Also that ending scared the cinders and ashes out of me. And the music, this was worth the wait, well done!
This was so much fun to watch, especially the end! Dudley has officially become my favorite fanmade villain in the fandom. I hope he found what he sought out, though judging by the episode “Demons”, it seems the cutters torch got him before he could acquire what he wanted.
I've watched quite a few takes on this Series and I think yours is the best. I especially liked when Dudley puffed right up to Sir Topham, it felt very threatening and when Sir Topham Hatt turned away from him made me feel for him. Also Toad is such a sweetie.
7:11-7:15, for some reason, I always have this image of Sir Topham Hatt tilting his chin upwards defiantly when Dudley lunges at him in an attempt at intimidation.
I loved every part of this adaptation, and imo ending it in a semi cliffhanger can lead to even more crazy storylines, cant wait to see if those ever get expanded upon, but its all really well done :D
This is utterly brilliant, I hadn’t really found a favourite adaptation for this story but this CLEARLY is the best one! The way each episode is pulled off is utterly exceptional! My favourite parts was Henry’s crash in the first episode, The tanker crash and explosion in the Sparky Fly for Bear, the landslide in Cannonball and...obviously. Dudley’s ghost in this one. The ominous feel and the fact of Dudley showing dominance over Spamcan. Little things like the eye movements and facial expressions make this different from other adaptations. I also like Dudley’s sinister voice in this adaptation and how he almost bashes toad through the buffers when he is confronted by TFC. Oh yes and also the follow up from ‘Demons’. The music and the iconic groaning. As soon as I heard that. I knew that he coming back! Absolutely brilliant work. I have no idea how your pc can withstand such graphics and the editing is top notch. Very well played and hats off to you, Carson!
I have to say that your version of lifting the curtain is by far the best. Loved the facial changes on Dudley, the left to right panning shots, and the action and emphasis on “remember me” a fear tactic as Dudley quickly chuffs towards the far controller… I LOVED IT! Poor toad though, he might be shitting nails and screws for days… as for the end, i have to wonder if this takes place before or after demons cause of that eerie feeling.
The original author of these stories, TheBuriedTruck, has more or less retconned the scrap engine from Demons to be Dudley, but Carson made that video before it happened.
Your adaptation of the Dudley saga is amazing. It feels very cinematic and immersive. Plus, I’m glad Dudley got what he deserved. Being sent away from Sodor is better being sent to the scrapyard right away. A shame he couldn’t learn to be more friendly towards Bear…
1. The facial expressions when he's angry 2. Scrapped Dudley appearing at the end with the similar sounds of scrapped wheels moving with the scrapped engine from Demons 3. When the Demons video is posted at the side at the end of this video 4. The soundtrack of What of Dudley is similar to the soundtrack of Disturbed The Sleep from Demons 4. The ending background music of Demons is the same as the soundtrack for 'Remembering Dudley' but with a different pitch Dudley IS the scrapped engine from Demons! I love how it all connects! Your adaptation is one of the best adaptations so far Carson! You did it again, I applaud for your work! I also love how you used the transitions for Dudley's expressions, his eyes were twitching which made me thought he's going insane because his one and only hope for survival is gone and even having the nerve to lunge forward to look closely down to the Fat Controller (I hope Toad is alright lol leave him alone Dudley)! Again, one of the best Dudley adaptations so far, well done Carson! The question is tho... how did he managed to get to Sodor when he's already scrapped? Unless... he might be part of the scrap train Derek brought to the Ironworks twins in 'A Dark Night for Bert'...
The ending reveals it, Dudley has *forced* his Rusted Hulking Wreck of a Body from Crewe to Sodor, Inch by Squealing, Rumbling, Groaning Inch, on nothing but pure *Rage* ! he is, somehow, Still Alive! and he wants *revenge* ! (read that in the voice of DCGB12 in full on "They were EYES!, Glaring out of the Wreckage of the Engines Past!" 'scare you silly' Tone for the full effect!)
@@moonintheblue It would fit like a glove if Dudley went after Bear, as he would blame Bear most of all for his being Scrapped! Given that about the only Person in the RWS and ERWS Universe who could get rid of Dudley for good is the Thin Clergyman, and that Bear is an Awdry (whom the Thin Clergyman is a "self insert" of) Original, it would make sense for Bears encounter with what is left of Dudley to be what brings the Thin Clergyman onto the Scene to deal with Dudley for good! It would be perfectly timed too IMO, as the Reverend is with the Lord, and the following day (as such an Episode would most fit on October 31), November 1, is all saints day (in Reformed Anglicanism and Presbyterianism at least) where all of those who have gone to be with the Lord are Remembered. Timing is Perfect IMO!
I loved every single bit about your adaptation of the Dudley saga! The narration makes Dudley feel so much more like the sly, devious character he’s supposed to be, the visuals are fantastic, the score is absolutely incredible, and I love how the ending ties into Demons!
Even though it was pretty obvious when this Saga was first announced that Dudley would turn out to be the scrap engine from Demons, the reveal at the end still felt pretty shocking / satisfying. Thank you Carson and Co. for this AMAZING adaption of theburiedtrucks Dudley stories! I can't wait to see what else S2 has to offer :D P.S. Will you put all 4 videos in a big compilation video like you did with Richard's stories? Just curious
@@carson08022000YES! I'm hyped! It'd be the only other 4-pt compilation on your channel...the first was a clumsy and chipper engine who was saved from scrap, and the second will be a shrewd and sinister engine who tried saving himself from scrap. It's crazy to think that Richard is the engine Dudley could've become! It's crazy to think that Dudley could've been a role model to Richard, _had_ he changed his ways!
Toad was so unfazed by Dudley's ways, even as he left. And quite interesting that The Fat Controller was almost real humorized by Toad's funny attitude.
I remember watching these episodes about a year ago!! 👏👏😄😄 These are some of the best episodes I’ve ever seen in the Thomas fan made content, Top 5 for sure!! I love the “Bear and Dudley” trilogy!! Well done Carson Workshop ☺️☺️
Scrap to scrap, slag to slag. Nothing to be missed, not even a hiss! Dudley, you wrote your own scrapping ticket. Whenever you finally are melted down I wonder how much will be just burnt off, so much of your very soul is rust. Unless you're just left to rot on those sleepers till you are nothing but dust! Much like Dane I can't have sympathy for a engine who never was remotely remorseful, only Dane had a excuse, you just wanted to be a star, but you played the heel and it cost you that limited chance.
I remember reading a caption from an Instagram post made by someone called Railway Sparrow that had a picture of Dudley being scraped. The caption was: "Some go quietly, they accept their time is up" Bert said grimly in the shed. "But others..." he trailed off. The shouts and screams of the big engine were still ringing around his radiator.
I wrote another comment here with a link to my work (apparently removed but considering what I already have resting on my hands, it's just as well), but this was an excellent finish Carson. I don't find it too much of a surprise the Dudley saga is so well received among the Thomas community. I have read Mike/Buried Truck's compiled work, and - whilst I would adjust some things to correspond with what I have been working on - there is nothing I would ever change about this one. It is credit to how good and inspired it is, and this adaptation really sells it - DCG12B's narration was perfect among everything else. Incidentally, I find it interesting that Dudley addresses Sir Topham Hatt with the knowledge he is more than just a controller, but his confrontation here literally nails it in the coffin for him. This contrasts him to the other engines, who respect him as their controller more than anything. Dudley twisted his weakness, and it hits home the message that taking more than you ask for can be damaging. Bear's characterisation is also sold here, showing the message those who don't conform to a norm might not be all they seem to be. Regards, Samuel Farris.
I’m excited to make my analysis on Dudley. I’m also impressed with how you still managed to keep the British accent despite not using the original narration. Their voices sound so fitting.
I really REALLY hope this isn't the last we've seen of Dudley. Demons was so fantastic that I hope we get a whole cavelcade of stories featuring the Demonic Scrap Engine terrorizing the other engines on Sodor. Seriously Carson. This might be the best TTTE Ghost Story ever produced. Well done mate.
I think this is my favorite of the Dudley saga. Anytime I watch an adaptation of this story I always go to lifting the curtain. I love seeing liars get revealed on the spot and they can’t do anything about it. Just been lying for so long and for a while, they’ve gotten away with it until they dig their own grave, and their lies are revealed. It’s why I love movies like Harriat Craig.
A brilliant 4 part series. This is definitely the best fan story creation I have ever seen. It felt like something from the actual TV series and definitely reminded me of the old railway series vibe from the past. Great job and I can’t wait for more episodes. Yeah.
So Dudley arguably went nuts seeing Steams future cut down by beauracracys merciless crusade of modernization, throwing steam to the smeltery as if it was worthless all along. Hard to deny: most would break from dispair in his wheels.
Glad the whole thing is finally over. I really love how your effects showed the evil in Dudley in your work. And the ending sent chills down my spine. If he ever did come back, I sure hope the engines will be ready.
It’s such a poetic yet ironic fate that Dudley ends up meeting. Willing to cross all lines to remain on Sodor in order to save himself, only to end up scrapped and back on the very island he was exiled from. He got what he wanted in the end. Just not the way he wanted it.
Dudley's driver and fireman the entire time:
"Ayo, our engine sure does a lot of shady stuff amirite?"
"Lol, he really do."
Or
2. They're just evil as Dudley and just went along with it without questioning him.
I wonder what became of Dudley’s driver and fireman. Maybe they were fired and got another engine to work with?
I like to think that they side with Dudley and are as evil as him because of fear of loosing the job they are so tightly integrated in, as BR has done massive layoffs before
I like to think that the people who operate the engines have the same if not similar personalities as the engines themselves.
I really love how Dudley's angry face has his mouth shaped EXACTLY like Diesel 10's mouth when he's angry. It's the small little details like this that show us that Dudley can be just as twisted and sociopathic as the vast majority of corrupted diesels he's resented for years.
That’s actually a really good point, and I didn’t even notice it.
Oh yeah!
He does look like diesel 10 when angry!
He looks like he kills others with that terrifying, mischievous grin.
OK, this may be opening up a Pandora's Box, but would it be Crazy that Dudley was the past version of Diesel 10 (and he was semi scrapped, like he got kinda rebuild into Diesel 10 and but his ghostly spirit Roams on the rails)
@@jordandorsett3106 but then how would his face get to D10s size 🤔
You can feel the sense of Dudley's eyes twitching as he sees the sanctuary he planned for himself shattering in front of him. He knew his fate was sealed the minute he stepped off Sodor, yet he refused to go down without a fight...his pride and vitriol were his downfall.
Yeah I see both the fear and anger in his eyes as they twitch after hearing what sir Topham Hatt said
Indeed!
Indeed. He was only upset because he was called out. Yet if he were a kinder engine.. perhaps he wouldnt be a drifter
@Somerandompokemon agree but he stay a bully and it cost him his life
@@Superherofan1621exactly…
What a conclusion. My favourite shot has to be where Dudley lunges forward when saying "You will remember me!" I think this definitely confirms my theory about Dudley. That theory being: He is the scrap engine we see in 'Demons'. One: Similar shape. Two: Similar sounding voice. (Not because these are narrated by the same person) and Three: Identical faces albeit with wrinkles. There was even a model by SodorRyModeler on Twitter long before the Dudley stories were written which was where my theory came from.
You know I was actually going to say the same thing. Dudley just might be the scrap engine we see in Demons.
It's possible, but at the same time, it seems the scrap engine was a 2-10-0, albeit not a 9F class. However, it seems like it could easily have been a 2-8-0 instead, and everything else lines up well, so who knows?
Imagine how terrifying that would be irl
That’s not a theory. TheBuriedTruck confirmed that that scrap engine is Dudley.
If you watch Demons again, Dudley’s eyes do the very same thing when he scares Diesel. Really does a good job of showing Dudley’s inner rage.
Dudley: Mark my words, Topham. You'll be sorry! You'll regret ever sending me away!!

I was not expecting Dudley to move forward toward Sir topham hatt. This is how you show how Dudley goes from extremely desperate to downright angry.
7:12
I was more than half expecting him to derail Toad in a spiteful attempt to kill Sir Topham Hatt.
Arguably the best part, as well as Dudley's ghost in the end.
"It is survival, the only thing that matters in this age of scrap!" 6:42
absolutely wonderful!
That thumbnail’s literally the Demons prologue foreshadow
The who what now?
That would work
There's some debate whether the scrap engine in Demons is Dudley or not. The model is distinctly different, but the author of both stories, TheBuriedTruck, likes the idea that it is the same engine.
@@engineerskalinerait Is Dudley!
I couldn't agree more.
Jesus, Dudley charging the Fat Controller was nerve racking, I would've lost my footing for sure. I'm surprised Toad was so calm and friendly after that.
Toad is the type of character that can laugh at seeing the abyss, as he has seen much worse before.
not the first time toad as brushed with death

He didn't even do anything that time...Dudley did all that to him.

Dudley is far more intent on getting Sodor, a filthy "diesel" like Spamcan isn't worth his time.
That scene of Dudley inching closer to Toad and literally coming face to face with the Fat Controller shows how cross he really is in that moment, and how ruthless he is altogether. I hope we can see more of him, despite his saga now coming to a close. Well done again, Carson.

Great work Carson!
Except for one, small wrinkle in that theory; the Scrap Engine in Demons is a 2-10-0 missing it's second set of drivers. Dudley's a 2-8-0.
@@havoc3742 The reason its a 2-10-0 is because there wasn't a model of Dudley for trainz at the time, If you were to refer to SodorRYModeler and the model he made of the scrap engine, its an O2, the same engine as Dudley
Plus The Buried Truck confirmed that they’re the same engine
This was a perfect send off for the Dudley saga! Almost makes you wonder how Richard will react once he hears about Dudley’s actions.
@@ToastTheThe
I always thought his fight for composure was because he felt exhausted after the confrontation and saddened over having to remove his hand of protection from an engine who, realistically speaking, has nowhere else to go.
@@voltsiano116The way I interpreted it was thay Topham was holding himself back from hurling profanities at Dudley after what he's done.
Ok so he was trying not to laugh then.
Whoa. I love the way you focused so much camera work on Dudley when the game was up. See how his expressions shifted left to right? How he puffed up to Toad and STH menacingly? You are practically a filming _genius!_ 👍
At the end, you could say that Dudley had gone full on Darth Sidious, his face decaying from the effects of the dark side.
Love STH's laughing face. 😆
7:12 Imagine a Steam Loco just CHARGING at you like that. Sir Tophammhatt being a total chad and not even flinching.
I love how Sir Handel was listening to Donald and Henry's conversion about Dudley.
Also, Dudley's scrapped appearance at the end looks eery.
He was likely like “Uh wtf is happening? Eh not my problem.”
Or even Diesel 10
Theory time: Dudley *did* find a new home…only for him to fall back into bad habits, get kicked out, rinse and repeat until he ended up back on Sodor as the rusted hulk from “Demons”- hence his title of “the Vagrant Engine”.
That explains why only half of his face is shown! Ugh, how creepy! His face, along with his body, rotting away...crap. 😳
He was gone…
Bear woke up with a shiver that night.
Nobody was laughing when they finally came to finish off the scrapping…
The remains of the engine had vanished… All that they could see in its place was a collapsed building in which the scrap engine once sat inside.
The workers searched every corner of the scrapyard that night.
They never found the engine… It seemingly vanished, into the night…

Apologies if that turned into a bit of a story. I tend to get carried away when writing 😂
I had this idea floating around my head ever since seeing this photo of Dudley’s real life counterpart 63971 awaiting scrapping at Central Wagon Co., Ince, near Wigan.

He would be a great Voice Actor or a proper narrator if BWBA never happened. I would honestly hire him for Voice work outside of Sodor based stories.

What a thrilling conclusion this was to one of my favorite story arcs. The thought that Dudley's fate ended like that is grueling, but so realistic. The cinematic feel of your videos has reached an all-time high with the Dudley saga as well, bravo!
7:13 this dude got some bearings
I remember reading about how the scrap engine from Diesels Demons was Dudley's ghost, I wasn't sure if that was true but now I do! This honestly was amazing, when Dudley said "you will remember me" and lunged forward at the Fat Controller, that shows that he really is manipulative, evil, and not afraid to harm anyone to get what he wants.
I love how you made Sir Topham Hatt laugh at Toads farewell to Dudley, that was brilliant! 😂😊👍 well done once again Carson!
8:02 can we just take about how beautiful this shot looks.
Wow. Incredible detail in adding a slight echo when they're inside the sheds.
Personally, one of favorite expressions has to be his closed-eyes laughing face, which can be used for getting away with yet another deed...or, for worse, _laughing quietly as psychopathic villains do!_ Jje09, ya did _great!_
Going further into visuals, the thumbails are brutally fantastic.

We probably won't see him in the future, but we've seen him in the past. He's the scrap engine in Demons.
All 4 episodes went insanely hard, awesome adaptations.
4:33-4:44-6:02 -it was at this moment that he knew, he fucked up BIG TIME!!
Bravo!
Man if Dudley had not framed Bear at all he would’ve likely stayed on sodor.
Not going to lie, I got spooked when Dudley shot forward to Sir Topham Hatt. I was afraid he was going deliberately crash into the man and Toad!
No one _ever_ gets in his face like that.
Yeah, I was worried for a second that this would get really dark and he would attempt to kill Sir Topham Hatt.
But now, I'm just tense and my anticipation is building for if we next see him
When we next see him. I bet we won't see him coming
I Love How Despite His Angry Expression, Dudley Still Keeps His Calm Devious Voice. Dcg12b Has a Perfect Voice For Him.
Justice for Bear.
7:55 That Sunset shot is amazing🔥👍👍👍
10:03 now THAT, is terrifying!!
Nicely done
7:05 this shot.. when he puffs forward is AMAZING
I was expecting a jumpscare for D199 and Dudley, but Dudley just inching along rusted and haggard made it more chilling and creepy.
I'm so glad it wasn't a jumpscare. I hate those, and it would've ruined one of my favourite moments from this story.
During that scene I could have sworn I heard the power outage sound effect from Five Nights at Freddy’s.
This is how you tell a story!
I will remember this.
I'm just going to say this right now Dudley's face changing everytime the camera pans from left to right is so iconic.
I love when people put attention to detail when it comes to adaptations, especially when Dudley rolled up to the fat controller.
Seeing the narrow gauge engines makes me wish we could get more stories with them on your channel. Splendid work on the Dudley saga.
No this is a great episode, the music, the Dialogue and a way to settle a Arc for season 2
This whole series had me on the edge of my seat, and that ending? Pure chills...
Also, high praise on your Voice acting for the engines, especially Dudley.
6:08 Dudley: What?!
8:27 Bear said no more. But couldn't help feeling Donald was right.
1. The facial expressions when he's angry
2. Scrapped Dudley appearing at the end with the similar sounds of scrapped wheels moving with the scrapped engine from Demons
3. When the Demons video is posted at the side at the end of this video
4. The soundtrack of What of Dudley is similar to the soundtrack of Disturbed The Sleep from Demons
4. The ending background music of Demons is the same as the soundtrack for 'Remembering Dudley' but with a different pitch
Dudley IS the scrapped engine from Demons!
@@simeonyves5940 ohhhh that makes sense! Thank you! I wonder if Bear would come across him again in his now scrapped body...
Wonderful stories all around with Dudley seeing his remains roll by D199 was terrific its given me a "What If" involving that scene ;)
The shot of Donald opening the doors to the shed like some guardian angel is so heartwarming.
I loved every single bit about your adaptation of the Dudley saga! The narration makes Dudley feel so much more like the sly, devious character he’s supposed to be, the visuals are fantastic, the score is absolutely incredible, and I love how the ending ties into Demons!
Beautifully done.
I got chills.
I can't wait to see what else S2 has to offer :D
P.S. Will you put all 4 videos in a big compilation video like you did with Richard's stories? Just curious
yes, there will be a compilation made eventually :)
Alr cool, thx for letting us know
@@carson08022000YES!
Best Dudley adaptation so far.
Agreed. I really love how Bear and Dudley are like Hagrid and Tom Riddle in this case
I don't think there'll be a better one, either. Carson always knocks them out of the park!
@@gregkiteos1936 Indeed
Nothing will ever surpass it imo.
Carson's in a league that very little to nobody could match.
Fantastic conclusion to the story! Thank you so much!
What a clever plan that was Donald!
I remember reading a caption from an Instagram post made by someone called Railway Sparrow that had a picture of Dudley being scraped. The caption was:
"Some go quietly, they accept their time is up" Bert said grimly in the shed. "But others..." he trailed off.
The shouts and screams of the big engine were still ringing around his radiator.
0:12 The thing behind Peter Sam is the Lawnmower, the Talyllyn railway’s first no. 5, I never thought I would see a model of it in Trainz.
That's the hypothetical Skarloey Railway version by TSI, called the Weed Whacker!
Looks like a potential new narrow gauge character.
I love how sir handle was listening to henry and Donalds conversation and i love the stern look expressions too
7:12 Whoa! Dudley almost deliberately crashed right into Sir Topham Hatt!
Yeah fr, that part made me jump XD
I’m excited to make my analysis on Dudley. I’m also impressed with how you still managed to keep the British accent despite not using the original narration. Their voices sound so fitting.
I really REALLY hope this isn't the last we've seen of Dudley. Demons was so fantastic that I hope we get a whole cavelcade of stories featuring the Demonic Scrap Engine terrorizing the other engines on Sodor.
Seriously Carson. This might be the best TTTE Ghost Story ever produced. Well done mate.
The ending made my blood run cold. The tension was immeasurable! Fantastic story there.
Awesome Episode Can't Wait for More Videos!!!
Glad to see you’ve completed this. It all comes together spectacularly.
A brilliant 4 part series. This is definitely the best fan story creation I have ever seen. It felt like something from the actual TV series and definitely reminded me of the old railway series vibe from the past. Great job and I can’t wait for more episodes. Yeah.
Sir Handel looks as if he agrees with Henry!
You certainly went all out by concluding this saga with a bang! Truly phenomenal work there, you definitely deserve a raise for that!
Bloody cracking job, Carson. Brilliantly rounded off and dovetails nicely into Demons. And dcg12b's narration is on point as always, fantastic job!
It’s such a poetic yet ironic fate that Dudley ends up meeting.
Willing to cross all lines to remain on Sodor in order to save himself, only to end up scrapped and back on the very island he was exiled from.
He got what he wanted in the end. Just not the way he wanted it.
This whole saga was amazing!
