- Please note that "restored" DOES NOT refer to the transfer of the film in this instance. These are the end credits to the version refered to on the VHS tape as the "Director's Restored Version." This is the version that John Boorman cut after Exorcist II's original theatrical version flopped. The rock theme "Magic and Ecstasy" is used when the credits get dark. There is a bit of music used in this version of "Magic and Ecstasy" not found in the soundtrack's version.
I know it's been a while since you uploaded this but thanks. Nice to hear more of Ennio Morricone's severely underrated score to Exorcist II.
I forgot the e-mail and password for this account.:(
I was right.... this was the version that I saw when I was a kid, the other one I just saw it and the begin and the end have changes.
1:21
The haunting score is why I sit thru the film - there's something that won't let me go
It's the beauty of Ennio Morricone, may he R.I.P.
Wow I would have preferred this version definitely! I purchased the download via apple movies and it has only the first score through the whole ending!
So I'm a bit confused. If "Magic & Ecstasy" was only in the recut version, why is it on the original LP?
Because it had been used as underscore in the trailer, minus the couple of bars early in its beginning, as heard in this version (1:32- 1:39)
Soundtracks commonly feature music not included in the film. Sometimes it's music composed for the film but removed or changed during the editing stage. The Exorcist II soundtrack features two versions of a theme called "Interrupted Melody" and neither one is in the film.
Thanks for posting this. I have the VHS version and should get it transferred some day.I actually HATE this version, though. Whenever I happened to find "Exorcist II: The Heretic" playing in revival houses or in 42nd Street theater in years after the movie came out, I always prayed it would be the original version and it was always this one - which is clumsy and botched.
How many cuts and restores have been done in The Exorcist and The Exorcist II?
OK, cool. Thanks for the info.
Luv this!
