I think the smartest choice of casting Pike is the unpredictability. Because this is the first time where we see her in a different role than she used to be. Had he casted someone like Charlie Theron or Emily Blunt, you know they're gonna nailed the character, you just know it but Pike was an unusual choice so Fincher succeed in subverting out expectations on Pike's casting and performance. The world finally took her seriously enough as an actress thanks to Gone Girl
Fincher is just a master. Gone Girl is my favorite film of his and you’ve done a great job at highlighting why that is. Also, I cannot talk about this movie without praising the revolutionary performance from Rosamund Pike! She was so beautiful and glacial but terrifying at the same time. Just simply outstanding.
Thank you so much. I'm glad to know that I can do the film justice through this video, especially to someone who cares so much about the film. I 100% agree with you on Pike's performance. It was the first film I had seen her in and I was shocked by how well she was able to take on such an intense character
the camera work also helps to show you the character of amy so well, too. it starts off so normal and culminates at the end by showing that amy’s almost become a more grandiose personality, which definitely clicked in nicks head too.
The way everyone talks about how Fincher directed this film REALLY feels like how great theatre is made, and I think that's why this movie works so well. I was thinking that on first watch, and it totally makes sense.
I love his thoughts and approach regarding filming his actors as much as possible along with doing countless takes etc. It feels like he’s trying to film the art of a story/scene or character at their creative peak....rather than filming a bunch of shots only to then try to turn those shots into art. He’s refreshingly unorthodox and an undeniable creative powerhouse. 💯 🏆
Really good job man. Watched while eating midnight snack. Two quick tips though. Audio is everything. Especially with something that uses it as the catalyst for the piece. Tip 1 equalize the audio of all the clips as much as possible. Even if you have one that sound mostly left, take the same clip and copy paste it to the right. If it sounds more hollow than the others give it a bass boost. Consistency is key. 2nd tip. At the start and end of each clip use 3 frames or so to ease the audio in or out. If you don't you'll get that pop at the start of finish of it which happened several times in this. I have to so that with all my videos because I use quick cuts. Good stuff though man. Keep it up.
I really appreciate the notes! It's been a journey learning how to get the better sounding audio in post, but I'm always open to improving it. Thanks for taking the time to try and help!

Such a refreshing idea for a channel - a great companion piece to the commentary track. Good job dude! The only thing I'd say is work on the audio side of things. Pan center, equalise, smooth out the edges - the usual stuff. You can also elevate the production quality by ripping from a Blu-ray source and making sure you avoid awkward cuts in between scenes. Keep it up!

Just some ideas, if you use them great, if not no worries, either way I am loving your videos and appreciate the hard work that you put into them.
Something like Howard Hawkes would be great considering he wasn't even remotely an auteur or a stylist, yet was perhaps the most functional director that ever lived (other than maybe John Ford and James Cameron).

very informative, I sometimes wonder about the right way to capture a performance... there are many times in music where the first take is almost always going to contain the unconscious elements that make a song fun to listen to repeatedly... in film (like with Kubrick) doing 100 takes sounds like it would dry out or kill certain qualities, but maybe professional actors are able to keep up
Sidney Lumet said an actor has about 4 interesting takes in them before they dry up, but 4 takes is usually not enough to nail every (technical and artistic) aspect of a shot. So after take 4 the actor needs to "fill-up" again, and you start the repetitive climb towards a performative break-through. How long that climb is, depends on the actor, the scene and the situation.
