What I love about the cover for Stay Tuned for Danger is how they used the color pink! Pink is universally considered a pretty or "cutesy" color, you never see it being used to convey danger or threat! But the hot pink they chose for the cover is almost...sickly?? I don't know how else to describe it. And the way it's literally everywhere on the cover is like, overwhelming to the senses, almost suffocating in a way. They somehow managed to make pink look scary, and I think that's REALLY cool!
A fun fact about Pink is that it not only used to be cutesy. There is a thing called Baker-Miller Pink that is used in prison. They expected the prisoners to calm down after seeing the color everywhere, but it caused much more anxiety and stress.
I love this ranking i feel like everyone overlooks the cover art aspect nowadays because everything’s digital. Meanwhile back in the day i remember shopping at target and just picking the games that had the coolest cover lol
LOVE this video! I think the Labyrinth of Lies cover offered subliminal references to the plot referring to when Niobe told Nancy that she “ate the seeds” even though Niobe had warned her not to, and what danger would come from eating the seeds. Probably my favorite dialogue in the entire game!
Fun fact about SCK Remaster's cover: There's old concept photos of it available online that show them using the Art of Murder: FBI Confidential cover as abase, then adding their own touch on top of it
Also even though I rarely comment and catch your live streams - I have been a huge fan of yours for almost two years! I watch your videos DAILY (even watch them multiple times) throughout work, during commutes, during meal times, etc. Thank you for the content! I am a HUGE ND lover (and have been all my life)! Your channel is my anti-anxiety remedy and keeps ND alive and well for me. =]
This gave me such nostalgia! I remember my mom waiting for me to make a decision on which game to get for my birthday and never being able to choose easily
As a graphic designer I love your breakdown. It was also cool to see how the different ears had their styles. It would be cool to see you break down the backs now. How the summaries and images represent the game and if the back really are reflective or a bunch of lies.
Yay! This was a fun ranking video! Now I’m curious about who the cover artist(s) was. There’s clearly a shift in the style of covers (moving from a scene to focusing more on a central figure). I wonder if this was because HeR’s design style changed or because they got a new artist? Or both?
Another wonderful video! Honestly the messages in a haunted mansion case sold me so quick as a child. Holds such a special place in my heart. Covers should be faithful to what's in the game and eye catching
I found the original Secrets Can Kill cover to be so genuinely unnerving and creepy I held off watching a play through of it for years because I thought it was going to be way more intense than it actually was. Also, never thought until you pointed it out how goofy it is that a game called Alibi In Ashes depicts the building before it becomes ashes!
It's so funny that the clock on Secret of the Old Clock gets the roman numerals wrong! (There's an X where 9 (IX) should be, and it counts up from X so 10 is XI, 11 is XII, and 12 is XIII) I guess the graphic designers didn't play Ghost Dogs. I'm glad I did, though, because roman numerals are cool and we all were probably the only kids in class who could read them lol! Also I can't say I expected Thornton Hall to be #1, but now seeing it, it's definitely the most beautiful, abstruse, and splendorous of them all :)
LOVE this idea for a video! And I definitely prefer the cover art for the earlier games than the later ones. They were simple but immediately left you wanting more - which is exactly what they should do. I remember seeing Ghost Dogs and being unable to resist buying it.
Great list! I enjoyed seeing the covers so much as I sold all my physical copies years ago and just have the digital. My house is too small for stuff. My favourite is Malloy I think, so glad that placed quite high, and I do think Labyrinth is good as well, representative of the myth and the game. I would have ranked last train lower as it is just the exterior train that we don't ever really get to see or explore and final scene as that shows that lovely auditorium that has basically no puzzles in it and we barely ever go in that room.
So excited to see your thoughts on the cover art! There are some truly gorgeous designs! Personally I love Danger on Deception Island (but whales are my fav so I’m biased) and Shadow at the Water’s Edge.
I actually really like the deadly device cover! I think it represented the game well by putting the murder, lab, and electricity front and center. There could be more things to see in the background but I do really love it and the color is everything for me😍 I do think it’s funny how midnight in Salem, ransom of the seven ships, and shattered medallion were all in last😅
most the covers are stunning 🤗 the wrong or deceptive art maybe are miscommunication between the devs and the artist 🤔 i wonder do the dev send the cover artist concept art or screenshots of the game
For LIES I'm amazed and surprised that HER went with the Greek Myth of an uncle marrying his niece I love Shadow Ranch and I'm so happy that Phantom that's what I named the ghost horse got a much better life at the end of the game living a wonderful life with Ed and Bet Rawley as his or her new owner's
i know you wern't talking about the back of the games but kind of a flaw with the warnings of waverly academy back side is that spoils the culprit which i think is a flaw and while i do thing art is subjective i agree with you that they shouldn't put characters that are not going be there it kind of feels like false advertising
I have to question the claim found on every back cover that ALL of the games in the series are "award-winning". Is that total bull, or is there an award that they give themselves just so they can say it's technically true? Because to call the current game "award-winning" before it's even released, it would have to be an award they gave themselves.
I don't know why you call Ransom of the Seven Ships a first person view. You can see a diver on the left, who must be Nancy. That means it's a Third Person View, just like the game. But you say that's a good picture, just not representative, and then put it right behind a cover that you call upsetting. I don't get that at all. I don't see that a cover has to represent the entire game. If it wants to dramatize one specific moment from a game, that's fine too.

Absolutely!! The covers were everything when trying to decide which one to buy!

Subliminal for sure! Which I guess just isn't my preference even though it's stunning!
Boy, 40 straight minutes of the Snack Shop Theme will drive you buggy.

Aww, thank you so much!! It means so much to hear that the content can be a bright spot in someone's day!

Omigosh, yes! It's so hard when they all look so fun!
Going to target looking at all the Nancy Drew Games - that is a core memory in my life! ahaha SO much fun! They really are so gorgeous!
Right?!
As a graphic designer I love your breakdown. It was also cool to see how the different ears had their styles. It would be cool to see you break down the backs now. How the summaries and images represent the game and if the back really are reflective or a bunch of lies.
Yeah, describing the main features of a mystery without also giving it away would be quite a challenge!
I think you should rate Midnight in Salem higher. If the cover is awful, that's VERY representative of the mystery.
What can I say, awful game, awful cover!
Yay! This was a fun ranking video! Now I’m curious about who the cover artist(s) was. There’s clearly a shift in the style of covers (moving from a scene to focusing more on a central figure). I wonder if this was because HeR’s design style changed or because they got a new artist? Or both?
Such a good question! The change aligns so well with the changes in eras also!
Another wonderful video! Honestly the messages in a haunted mansion case sold me so quick as a child. Holds such a special place in my heart. Covers should be faithful to what's in the game and eye catching
It's super nostalgic for me too!!

Lol, yeah, definitely a missed opportunity to do some cool charred ruins!

Same!! Those glowing yellow eyes had me immediately!

I love both of those too!!
Tbh I love all of the covers except Midnight in Salem, The Silent Spy, and The Shattered Medallion
Yeah they're generally really strong!
I would've placed the Scarlet Hand a lot lower and the Deadly Device closer to the middle, But your reasoning makes a lot of sense
I could see that!
I actually really like the deadly device cover! I think it represented the game well by putting the murder, lab, and electricity front and center. There could be more things to see in the background but I do really love it and the color is everything for me😍

I thought so too, lol! Even in cover they aren't as successful!
MHM was the first game I ever played! I even got it for my Gameboy advance 🥰
It's so good!!
most the covers are stunning 🤗 the wrong or deceptive art maybe are miscommunication between the devs and the artist 🤔 i wonder do the dev send the cover artist concept art or screenshots of the game
Quite possibly!
Oh my goodness I have NEVER noticed the man in the background of White Wolf!!! Who could that be??
Right?!
SHA is so iconic!
@@WizardKittenYT I also love the tag lines that the game cover's have
This is cool! Have you ever seen fan made covers? They are better then the real ones
Yeah, some of the fan made ones have been divine!
did you know there are two hidden thirteens in the cover for TRN?
i know you wern't talking about the back of the games but kind of a flaw with the warnings of waverly academy back side is that spoils the culprit which i think is a flaw and while i do thing art is subjective i agree with you that they shouldn't put characters that are not going be there it kind of feels like false advertising
Yeah, analyzing the back side would be a whole other game!
@@WizardKittenYT maybe that could be your next list you know impress with the list you come up with
