This game is hanging out on my wishlist for when the mood hits to pick it up, so I'm glad to hear your thoughts on it. Your review style is really in depth and unique so if its an options you're the first channel I'd look to for a review.
100% on point especially the 3 criticisms at the end. I'm hoping they learn from these missteps for their next title. You can just see the potential here for something great but its unrealized in this first game. The other main thing is that the first 1/3 of the game is very tightly focused and well designed. You get the impression they 'ran out of steam' (or money) for the last 2/3rds particularly in the quest/story dept.
man you are so right about the containers, game is great i feel like if they lower the amount of trash container and make the fatigue mechanic less annoying it couldve been a classic.
Great review. Containers, items, etc. in games are an interaction with the player, either the gamer will be okay ignoring such things or none will escape from their clutches. For me, I obtain everything in games simply because I don't want to miss anything during my experience - I have to enjoy the game a lot though. I won't collect everything in a game I find average or worse, simply because I'll stop playing it therefor the completion stops. I'll just replace it with a better game experience deserving of my full attention. You can only experience that First-time playing the game once. Anyway, I totally agree on your critical 3. I'm a new subscriber to your channel, literally today, I look forward on seeing more of your videos.
Another exceptional review! Being a compulsive looter myself, I understand what you’re saying about the flower pots completely. There is no way I could just walk past loot containers without opening them. Just thinking about about it hurts me on the inside! 😅😂
Well, that's one area where Wasteland 2 and 3 did it right: looting corpses. Doesn't apply to containers. But at least, when you want to loot the corpses after a battle, you don't have to go to them one by one to loot each one separately. The only thing that could've made the mechanic better would be if the lootable corpses in your list would not be based on distance to player, but instead include everyone involved in the battle you just fought.
Haha, I get you! The flower pots might be tricky for completionist. Luckily I am none and I just stopped looking inside. Great game, I enjoyed it a lot. Hope you have a great weekend!
Great review! I just did a play through on my channel as a white wing scientist and agree with most of what you said, apart from the completionist complaint :) I definitely hope the studio did well sales wise and that they can make a sequel.
Your criticism of the lootables in Encased is absolutely reasonable. It's the same reason that I don't play Assassin's Creed style sandbox games anymore. After a while I would just forego playing through the main content altogether until after getting all of the exploration and bonus garbage out of the way so I wouldn't feel like I was constantly needing to stop my progress just to satisfy my completionist nature. Here's hoping that for their next game the devs focus on meaningful content designed to engage players, rather than on alt highlighted item eye strain :-)
Leveling up should be a big deal in rpg , as I reflect on bg3 who only have 12 levels, shouldn't RP be a big deal in RPG as the main focus? And also is the enemy too easy on the hardest difficulty or is it link to a specific build that is op ?
@@SlanderedGaming Oh, that it is! Been laughing me arse off for last couple hours, almost every action you is damn goofy etc and you can do stuff "normal" characters can't! And every conversion with npcs are uniques and different than normally. It is like almost different game. Highly recommend you to try it out!
Man the flowerpot thing, that was a big reason I stopped playing Divinity Original Sin (the first one). So many containers with trash loot and random things to take- issue is you need that stuff for crafting and money because that was the chosen mechanic. But getting one potato from a crate gets to you after a while, give me money or loot please. And, I too want to check everything because occasionally there is something worth finding. Ugh, game devs please make searchable areas have more meaning.
I agree that first half of the game is significantly better then the last one. They have remade roleplaying system several times during the development and it seems that it ate significant amount of budget. There were developed areas with quests that got thrown out unfortunately too. However, developers keep working on it and adding mechanics (like cars) even after game release so there is a hope that it will eventually get better. First half of the game is really good thou. And it makes it worth playing.
@@SlanderedGaming Okay I found it. It's two different guys. William Hope for Encased, and Neil Ross for Mass Effect. They sound so similar to me, and they also look how they sound too.
Oh gods the looting problem is real. This is exactly why I struggled with the Divinity series. The games are good but when they allow me to interact with something I wanna try it out and these games allow to interact with basically everything!
I was trying desperately to like this game but found myself bored by the NPC interactions, monotonous combat, the tone (it seemed off-too goofy and lighthearted for the setting), the immersion breaking sneak/steal system that is way too simplistic and OP for the player and most significantly the approach to loot. I kept feeling pressuried to loot EVERYTHING for the xp gain and because, as I am only in Act 1, I am ignorant as to what I may or may not require down the line-will this electronics part be useful for fixing a robotic companion; is that relic dust important for fueling something amazing; is that plastic strip a component of a crafting item; will that beer bottle be needed for a molitov at some point...its frankly immensely stressful and unstatisfying going through so many containers. I decided to watch reviews to determine whether I should stick with it or cut my losses. I haven't seen too many people touch upon the horrendous looting and I am so glad you have. I thought I was being too harsh. I think with all the DLCs for WOTR, its time to replay that and maybe give this dev a second chance on their follow-up title. I do not find Encased captivating enough across various metrics to sink such a significant % of my life into.

hope you got it from GoG Friend. 3.63$ rn
Going to be free tomorrow on Epic Games Store

Yeah I am looking forward to what they do with the sequel.
Just had to drop in and compliment on how crisp this review is. Super organized and on point. Subscribed!
Thank you! Once I churn through all the Pathfinder content in my head I'll be doing a lot more game reviews.

Appreciate looking into the depth of this.
My pleasure!

😂😂 Thanks I am glad you enjoyed the review!
I'm always impressed by the quality of your writing!
Thank you! I put a lot of effort into the reviews so I am glad people enjoy them.
Man I can absolutely understand your point of there being too much stuff to loot in a game, especially when it comes to XP.
It makes sense in a game like Borderlands where you are constantly getting new great gear. It doesn't make sense at all here.
As a loot goblin i find this ok
Thank you for sharing your honest and in-depth thoughts and opinions about the game.
My pleasure!

Yup that definitely would've helped.
Great review; very well done. I picked this game up…now just need time to play it. lol
Thank you!

@@SlanderedGaming great to hear your doing well keep up the good work,

Been after a good flower pot looting game tbh. Will check it out.
Nice I hope you enjoy it.
Seriously, I usually check steam every few days to figure out my next game, and yet you STILL always find titles I have never even heard of to review!
It's my pleasure! LOL
It's a shame they went out of business I want to see what the devs could do in a second game.
I didn't know they went out of business until you mentioned this and I looked it up. Really sucks.
Good review, thanks for all the info. God bless and Jesus loves you!
Thanks, you too!
Your section about flower pots made me actually burst out laughing in real life. Hilarious. THE DREADED FLOWER POTS.
😂😂😂

Glad you enjoyed it!
I never finished it, but I really enjoyed what I played of it, more then any of the fallouts since 2
I am looking forward to what they do with the sequels.
Just planning new run and just thinking to make some wierd Orange Wing guy with Brains 1 for fun run... Or I just go with Black Wing...
I didn't do a low Brains run but I heard it's highly entertaining.

Yup definitely think this is a game worth experiencing.
Speaking of good voice acting, the narrator in Encased sounds like the same narrator for Mass Effect's encyclopedia.
I tried to Google it but cannot find the name anywhere.

At what Level you finished the game, because of all the looting?
This was so long ago I honestly do not remember. LOL
I haven't played it yet. But just by looking at it, it looks a lot like Wasteland 2.
There are similarities but Encased is definitely it's own beast.

I my advice is to play this game as dumb character. Its hilarious.
Nice if I play it again I will definitely do that.
