    Thank you for taking the time to make and post The Video. If you could, can you please elaborate on the different cloning tools (System Clone vs Disk Clone vs Partition Clone) - I think I understand the partition clone as you can select an individual partition to clone, but the difference between the system clone and disk clone is not clear to me. Which one should be used to clone a drive that has the OS, other programs, and files on it.

    • @footprinttechnologies
      @footprinttechnologies  9 месяцев назад +1

      Below is a list of the clone modes and their functions:
      • System clone - cloning the entire OS, including however many partitions it spans over, over to the destination (the OS need not occupy the whole disk. For example, in case of a two-partition 256 gig drive on which the OS is installed to a 100 gig partition, the OS clone feature only copies over the portion reserved for the OS, not the other 156 gig.) Also, the system clone feature ensures that the cloned OS is bootable and gives you the option to prepare it for different hardware by the universal restore toggle.
      • Disk clone - cloning the entire disk, however many partitions it has (that are visible to the system of course.) This does not guarantee bootup of the cloned drive, if the source were a bootable drive. While system clones will not proceed unless the source contains an OS, this option clones regardless of the content.
      • Partition clone - clones partitions on the drive instead of the entire drive, as you correctly indicated. The drive need not contain an OS, nor will the destination be bootable, unless done with specific single-partition systems (even those fail most times).

    If you want to get an exact copy of the original drive, then choose disk clone. Why did you use the system clone?

    • @footprinttechnologies
      @footprinttechnologies  4 месяца назад +1

      Correct. Disk clone does give you an exact copy of everything on the source drive, and so, under the assumption that your source drive contains _only_ your OS and your OS in its entirety, it'll be fine if you choose disk clone over system clone. However, issues may arise from disk clone if either of those requirements is not met (e.g. if your source drive is split 50-50 between your OS and a separate data partiton _or_ if your OS spans multiple drives) whereas system clone ensures your system is cloned no matter the original configuration

      @@footprinttechnologies This is exactly the problem I have. The SSD split into three partitions, and disk cloning doesn’t work this time, although it worked previously. The process involves cloning the primary drive to a USB, and then cloning the USB to the secondary drive. Would it be advisable to take out the SSD from the secondary PC, plug it into an M.2 to USB docking station, and then connect it to the primary PC to clone the disk directly? Two SSD drives are the same size. Thanks in advance for any advise

    • @footprinttechnologies

      @@forgewire Disk cloning, although it does _clone_ everything, is rather finicky when it comes to cloning OSes. You can certainly give it a try, but no guarantees for success.
      Also, have you tried system clone? If you don't have a license to Backupper, feel free to also check out this video (ruclips.net/video/XFTjPKpRwu0/видео.html) on how to clone your OS for free. This has proven much more reliable than messing with disk clone.

    I just bought this and used it to clone my C drive (which was max full). I did it the system clone route like you did. The destination of the clone is a 1 TB external hard drive. The source (C drive) is 120 GB SSD. I just finished it about 10 minutes ago. But I'm not entirely sure what to do next. I forgot to check also to see if my BIOS will allow me to boot to USB. If I am allowed to do this, what's the best way of exchanging the old C drive with the soon to be new C drive? My pc is Win 10.

      Assuming you have selected the cloned drive to boot from, you typically won't have to remove your old drive, with one exception being, of course, if your PC ran out of I/O capacity or bandwidth. Also, if your drive's too slow or unresponsive, Windows may crash during boot

      So I booted into the backupper program and then used a disk clone to copy over the system clone from the usb flash stick. That worked, was able to keep whole system intact and boot the ssd.

      Indeed. Thank you for the comment. Backupper assumes that your destination has at least the same amount of space as the source when cloning. In backing up to/restoring from an image file, however, it allows for smaller destination drives, so that is another valid option.
