    Love the recipe. WE CALL IT GINGERBEER!!! In Surinam we also make it and call it GEMBERBIER, which means Gingerbeer. Instead of the RUM we also use pear or pineapple essence also we use Cola chamagne essence. All these essences added to the gingerbeer, give a very GOOD TASTE!! Thank you for sharing!!

    If you are patient and let it ferment. It will be so healthy, bubbly and full of probiotics. Right now it is a sugar bomb.

    Ginger beer...needs to be fermented ... Maybe overnight... Brown sugar looks like a lot but it helps with the fermentation process. .
    And wouldn't be very sweet after fermentation. All require are... Cold water, ground ginger with skins on... Sugar. Not boiling water.
    Make sure sugar is melted goo.. Then pour into bottles, leaving it open for fermentation and the skins will float right to the tops of bottles. Strain and put in bottles/ jars in fridge to get cold and enjoy a refreshing booze free drink...

    It is more a ginger tea than a beer, I dare say that it is very tasty but there is very little alcohol in it.

    My wife likes this when carbonated like some on the market which also have no alcohol. Is there a way to make this ferment to a carbonation but low alcohol level?
    We can only think of boiling it down to a syrup thickness, which would be very strong and adding it to bubbly spring water or club soda. Any suggestions?

    In Jamaica even the carbonated drink is called ginger beer. It depends on where you come from.

    you just made ginger tea not ginger beer. Sorry It needs to ferment in order to be ginger beer.

    How is this ginger beer? More like ginger tea with shot of rum, ginger beer traditionally should be fermented a little

      More healthy because the bacteria eat the sugar in the fermenting process.

      This is not fermented. This version is more like juice. He would've had to let this mixture sit for about a week to allow the mixture to ferment.

      It's called beer because of the fermentation process! Ginger beer should be slightly carbonated as well. I don't understand how video's are posted that say they are "recipes" when there are no specific measurements. To say that I need to taste it "as I go" and instruct me to adjust it to my taste (assuming that I even know what Ginger Beer should taste like), is not a recipe. Pretty sure every batch this chef makes, tastes differently :)

      Without fermenting, I find it's more like ginger "juice", not ginger beer. I ferment mine too, and Bo Third, yes it carbonates. Open bottle in sink to make sure you don't make a mess

    Hi I'm making ginger bug for the first time. Though it taste ok but the color is orangish. Its 45 degree centigrade here in india where I stay. Also on the first 2 days it was very sunny but its cloudy at now. I'm in the 4th day of ginger bug. Please advise if my bug is ok. It is fizzy too. Thanks in advance.

    Love your simple and fast,pick me up ginger beer. Cooking Nice Guyana has been doing it similar and his wife's dad made a livelihood of it since cinema built in Guyana as it was customers tasty refreshing drink cheaper than artificial soft drink at film breaks .

    hi...chef try using different spoons when taste testing unless you always just cooking for yourself otherwise the recipe looks great ...i would use stevia ...too much refined sugar but looks delicious ...

    Good, but sugar is equal to diabetes. I advise you put all in a bottle and cover it and ferment it for 1 week before drinking, but don't form it as a habit to avoid diabetes.

    Raise yuh hand if you can guess the amount of ginger. 1/2 cup or 1 cup. So easy to say how much. Why didn't he. Don't like approximates.
