This actually was '09 and it screams '09. There was something weird going on between '08 and '10 where "old" artists had their last hits and new artists came up, some of these new artists are still popular today. And a certain style of music was popular in these two years. In 2010 it started to change again to something more dance/virtual beat influenced were still familiar with ten years later. Even the artists from before changed their styles. We don't know the (electro)pop and r&b from before 2010 anymore, these genres have changed alot.

Richard Galindo That's not the reason.... I was 11-12 in 2010 and youtube was very popular. If that was the case then why do so music videos uploaded to youtube prior to 2010 have 200+ million views? This song doesn't have that many views simply because it only became a hit in a few countries, specifically the US, Australia, and Canada.
Joshua Anthony I was 15 in 2010. RUclips is popular all over the world these days, which means that music videos get a ton of views these days. I was a teenager during those days and I remember only a few music videos getting over 200M views during 2008-2010. Lots of people can agree with me.
