I saw them in 1975 and 1977. There is no feeling like when the stage lights come on and you have to make sure it's really them. All of a sudden it's when everybody realizes it's really them! I would not trade anything to be young again now and miss those experiences. Only a handful of bands made the hair on my neck stand up as when you hear Bonzo's drum and they launched into "Rock & Roll" to open the 75 concert. I still feel it.
Jay & Amber, PLEASE do another reaction to the STUDIO release of this song!!🤗 This live version does not convey the true musicality of this Masterpiece! You can't even get the gist of certain parts of this song, from this live version. Reacting to the studio version will be like hearing it for the FIRST time! Love you guys!❤💛💚
You nailed it Amber. 🙂 That's exactly what the Ocean is, the crowds at the concerts. And the 4 year old (3 in the studio version, he updated her age over the years) who won Plant's heart and who he was singing all his songs to is his daughter Carmen. Sweet sentiment... though I got to say, I really hope he wasn't singing *all* his songs to her. Some of them shouldn't be sung to children or to daughters. 😮 Jay, Led Zep is a British band. But they were inspired and influenced by a lot of American music, especially blues, early rock and roll, old school R&B, etc., so I guess you could call it British American rock.
Nobody gets more out of a first listen than Amber. Looking past the obvious meaning of the word ocean and connecting it to the sea of fans is something only Amber could do. Most reactors whiff on song meanings while watching a lyric vid, while she always picks up on the meaning. She's the best at this by far.
Yep, exactly. Jimmy Page's compositional abilities, plus his years in the studio contributing to soundtracks and hits and honing different styles made a huge difference for Zep. John Paul Jones, ditto. On top of four major talents in theIr own right.
Funky rock and roll! Live Zeppelin! Still the best rock and roll band ever!!!! Love Zeppelin live! They were even better!! Thank you God to let me see them live and grow up as a teenager then!!❤️😆😁
Zeppelin music WILL NEVER DIE--- it's too great.. and unique.. I say that because many bands have their own "sound"--- Led Zeppelin always came up with different sounds, riffs, etc. TOTALLY AHEAD OF THEIR ROCK TIME. And don't get me started on Robert Plant... he's still a sexy man today. :-)
I have bought this album Houses of the Holy over a dozen times in various forms. I wore the cassette out 6 times alone. I have heard every Zep song 1000's of times over last 53 years

@Roger Daly Ditto exactly. Both Page & Plant tours and Rob solo twice. Now and Zen and Manic Nirvana tours. And as a teenager with my older brother, both Firm tours. The Firm was my first rock concert.
@@ryanr5319 Regrettably i never got to see The Firm. My first concert was Aerosmith on their Rocks tour. Second was KISS on their Love Gun tour. Third was Van Halen for their Women & Children First tour.
Saw Zep 12 times! The 2nd & 3RD show of the Song Remains the Same tour in 1973 at MSG, NY is in the movie. The 3rd show my friend & I had 15 row orchestra right in front of Jimmy Page! It was about 3 1/2 hours long and the greatest concert I ever saw & I saw a couple hundred over my 71 years. My ears were ringing for a few days and totally worth it, lol!
the sing and the guitar player were both trying to up (outdo each other) each other, They both were famous for what they did for music. Thats why Led Zeppelin sounded so great.
Led Zep !!!! My favorite band ever!! Glad I got to see them at Madison Square back 72,73? Love Ramble On and Kashmir , my 2 favorites . But they're all good. I wasn't even finished with high school when I bought their 1st album! No radio stations played them yet, no one really knew about them except the "cool" kids. Everyone jumped on board once Stairway To Heaven came out...so much good before that tune! I'm glad I was young at the best time for rock music !☮️
I’m 58 now. So I was in high school in the very early 80s. So of course, I knew of Led Zeppelin, and I liked some of their songs, but I didn’t pay close enough attention to just how amazingly great Led Zeppelin was. Some of their songs I liked, but I didn’t even know that some of those songs were Led Zeppelin. Tbh, I didn’t fully understand the hype. Now that I’m older, I realize just how BRILLIANT the music of Led Zeppelin is. I now believe that Led Zeppelin has to be one of the Top 5 artists in the history of music since the 1960s to the present. I don’t think there’s ever been another artist like them, and I don’t think there ever will be again. They are a multigenerational talent.
Yes, Robert Plant gave a shout out to his oldest daughter Carmen as "the girl who won my heart" who was 4 years old at the time this was filmed in 1973... There was a clip in the Led Zeppelin movie that showed Robert w/ his kids, Carmen and son Karac in 1974. Tragically, Karac died at age 5 in 1977 from a viral infection while Led Zeppelin was touring the States 😪It devastated Robert Plant and his family... he didn't perform in concert again until 2 years later in 1979.
As a major LZ fan, it bothers me a little that you don’t listen to the studio versions before you do the live ones. Page’s production on the studio albums is nothing short of brilliant and I feel like you miss out.
As a Led Zeppelin final also add lyrically. Led Zeppelin is quite phenomenal not obviously on every track, but it boggles one’s mind when they don’t take the lyrics into account. It’s very loud music on purpose the production quality on the records was absolutely excellent, especially given that timeframe. I can imagine how soul crushing it is to listen to what now it’s called music, and once you hear music from back in the day, that’s actually done by real musicians, real singing and everything organic as opposed to now, which is all crap or at least 99.9999% of it is.😊
Hey guys. Deon from Chitown. Been listening for awhile. My best friend passed away two months ago. Very very hard for me. Listening to your reaction to Sam Cookes “a change is gonna come” was so powerful that I finally was able to grieve his death with the emotions you guys brought out of me. I wanna say THANK YOU! Thank you for helping get me thru it. Your presence is so amazing and I appreciate you guys and your energy. Though we prob will never meet, you have a friend for life in me.

Kids, being up against the ropes for 6 times. Zep and Robbie, it is never the same. They trick up with every song they have ever done/ I met Robbie in Eugene OR and asked him why and he said "Honestly, Beautiul One, it is so we don't get bored or our fans either. They can get the album anytime." And he laid one on me. The night of my life!!!
What may also make you smile is this song is a nod of appreciation to their fans. The Ocean they're singing about is the 'ocean' of faces in the audiences at their shows . ...quite cool that its for their fans 😊 At least that's what I read about this track...
I agree. In my book, (one of my Zepp autobiographies) Robert describes the ocean specifically as the fans hands all raised skyward and swaying back & forth by the tens of thousands in time with the music. A huge dark lit stadium with throngs of fans getting lit with roving spotlights! It looked like waves in the ocean! How cool.
The Rover is one of my favorite Led Zeppelin deep tracks from the Physical Graffiti album! Some of Jimmy Page's greatest guitar playing is on that track! Great channel guys! Love it!
"Hey Hey What Can I Do" is a great song you should try next. Absolutely awesome, and it didn't even make one of their albums. Lyric video is pretty cool.
The best bumper sticker I ever had on my truck was “I might be old, but I got to see all the really cool bands “ lol. Just a play on your comment Amber 😊
Love your appreciation for the musicality of Led Zeppelin, they were my favorite band in the 1970’s and still are to this day. I would love to see you react to The Song Remains the Same and The Rain Song from MSG live concert, the transition is wonderful. It satisfies J’s rock edge and Amber’s appreciation for softer rock. To see a younger Zep live, check out their Royal Albert Hall performances such as How Many More Times and What Is and Should Never Be. Amber totally got the lyrics correct; the song is about “Ocean” of fans at concerts and the reference to 4 yrs old is his daughter. He changes her age based on her actual age at time of performance. The published version of song has her age at 3 when he wrote it.
Yes! One of their best, and a great way to close out the Houses of the Holy album from Led Zeppelin. This live version is good, but you should try the studio version.
The thing about Zeppelin, is... yes, they're awesome live, but their studio tracks are so beautifully produced that you just can't hear everything live. Please react to No Quarter. (Definitely studio version) It's a side of them you haven't tapped yet!
They were always awesome live but you should definitely check out the studio version too! Some of the notes 🎶 that Plant was struggling a little with there (he was starting to have vocal chord issues) were clear as a bell on the record! He got “way up there”👆several times in that song!
OMFG, I just realized that Carmen Plant is over fifty years old. I still think of her as that little girl with the long fall of golden hair. Damn, I feel OLD. 😭
Even if you were unaware of the song, it would take maybe 3 seconds to know this is Zeppelin! Either the opening chords, or when John hits his drums! Nice video!
Saw LZ play at Macon Ga. Coliseum in April 1970. Blew everyone’s minds especially when Page used the violin bow on his guitar during “Whole Lotta Love.” Good times, good times!
My favourite band! I love this song and concert footage, they look like they're having a lot of fun on stage. The four year old is his daughter. If I had a time machine I would travel back in time to this concert. Great reaction as always, positive wishes to you both and your family
Always love your reactions. There's a rock blues Led Zeppelin song you haven't reacted to, and based on some of the things you said in your reaction, I think you will love this song. It's early Led Zeppelin, and they play like they did when I saw 3 of their concerts between 1969 and 1971. The sound quality and video are very good. The song is I Can't Quit You Babe performed live at Royal Albert Hall 1970. If you decide to check it out, it is important to get this particular performance.
That was the meaning behind of the "Ocean" was just that!!! the sea of people at their shows. Led Zepplin was the main start of "STADIUM ROCK" filling football stadiums with almost every show.
Check out their song, Down by the seaside to see a totally different side of Led Zeppelin. It is just so beautiful it's incredible. It's so beautiful. But yeah man this is a great song by them and I'm glad you guys got to it.
The Ocean was about Led Zeppelin's fans and Robert Plant said, in an interview many years ago that the big audiences at Led Zeppelin concerts reminded him of the sea. Like a sea of people meaning the Ocean reference and title of the song. Also, the four-year-old he was a referring to is Robert Plant's daughter who is his oldest child, Carmen. Who was four years old in 1973. He adored his little girl who is a grown woman now. I am a lady in her fifties who loves classic rock and Led Zeppelin was always one of my favorite bands.
Back in 1975 I saw Led Zep 6 consecutive nights….every concert was different…the loudest concert I experienced…my ears was ringing after those concerts….
Great! What a riff! When the song was released in the Houses of the holy LP Robert sang "She´s only three years old..." so I guess this performance was done a year later so the child is four years old now.
One of my favorites, I can remember their first album, then saw them in person in Baltimore in the early 70s , hippie style , out there and they were great
The 70,s were the best decade, for all genre's of music/ Rock/ Soul/ Blues/ etc! I saw the boy,s live in 1975/ What a party, I was 16😊, my ears were buzzing for 3 day,s!!
I count myself lucky to have seen Led Zep live several times. Even had back stage passes for their '77 Chicago show but Robert Plant's son passed away a couple of days before the gig and they, of course, cancelled. Always a great show. I may be old but I've seen all the great bands. Cheers....
Back in the day it would cost around $18 a ticket to see a big-name band in concert. I could have bought tickets to see Led Zepplin in 1977. But never got around to it. I could kick myself in the head. I did finally see him (Robert Plant)in 2018 performing at the Austin City Limits venue in Austin. Even though he was much older, he was amazing.
I was blessed to see them live in 1975 at Keil Auditorium in St. Louis. They played for over 3 hours. It was wonderful, but also sad in a way, as I knew I had seen the best band I would ever see. The live clips are from that tour.
I was lucky enough to see them in September 1971. I sat in the 12th row center stage. They kicked off the show with The Immigrant Song and played Heartbreaker, What Is And What Should Never Be, That's The Way, Going To California, Dazed And Confused, Moby Dick, Stairway To Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog and more. I paid $6.05 for my ticket and still have the stub.
Just signed up I am a new member you two brought me so much down to earth entertainment I have had many a much appreciated laugh as well as shared tears with you congratulations on your channel and wonderful family yeah music makes the world go around 🎤🎸🎶❤️
Amber has it correct, The Ocean was a song about the fans and how the multitude of people in the audience looked like an ocean as they bobbed their heads up and down, resembling the ocean waves. The 4 year old girl who won his heart is a reference to his daughter, Carmen. On the album, he sings three years old but, clearly by the time of this concert, she's 4. Jay, it's ironic you called this "American rock" since it's by a British band. 😄By the way, it wasn't JPJ doing the shredding, it was Jimmy Page. JPJ (John Paul Jones) is playing bass. If you guys love Zep so much, why isn't there any of their merch on your walls? 😉

Even if you were unaware of the song, it would take maybe 3 seconds to know this is Zeppelin!
Either the opening chords, or when John hits his drums! Nice video!
Ocean is the crowd. Well spotted. You are one of the few reaction channels that I believe to be genuine. Kudos.
Saw LZ play at Macon Ga. Coliseum in April 1970. Blew everyone’s minds especially when Page used the violin bow on his guitar during “Whole Lotta Love.” Good times, good times!
Zeppelin live gives their songs more dimensions then recorded
THE HAMMER OF THE GODS- LED ZEPPELIN
My favourite band! I love this song and concert footage, they look like they're having a lot of fun on stage. The four year old is his daughter. If I had a time machine I would travel back in time to this concert. Great reaction as always, positive wishes to you both and your family
“That’s the Way” please. That song will make you think. Wayyyyyyy ahead of its time, and also perfect for it.
Simply the best. So glad I saw them live in 1977. 🎉🎉
Love me some Zep.
Seeing Led Zeppelin in concert in the early 70s was a musical experience that can't be described. I was lucky enough to see them twice back then.
Bro! Huge LedZep fan? Welcome! This is one of my favorite live videos...thanks and keep rocking!!!
Favorite Classic Rock band from the 1970's I enjoyed this. Thank You.
What I always loved about live Zep is that it was a different experience from the albums. More improvisation for sure on many songs.
Great reaction RSR! I always enjoy some good Led Zeppelin!
went to many UK concerts
was never ever disappointed
only down side was
two or three days ringing of the ears
but well worth it
I just discovered an acoustic version of Led Zepplin's "Thank You" played by the late Chris Cornell, it was so heart wrenching. It was beautiful.
As a LZ fan for many decades, how envious am I that these two are hearing Led Zeppelin songs for the first time.
I just had this running through my head earlier today! Synchronicity!
Zeppelin live will always be the best thing ever
When Zep talks about the "The Ocean" they mean the ocean or sea of fans in the audience , its a tribute to them
Amber and Jay Bless your hearts!!! I have seen them in concert 4 times...andthey are very much like this!!!
Anything Zeppelin ...Amazing ❤🎉
He’s saying JPP, Jimmy Patrick Page. He’s correct
I understand completely. I have memories that pretty much go along in time with Zep. You younger folks don't. I get it. Thank you for the review.
Really enjoy watching you both and your enjoyment of all things 🎶 🎉
As much as I love this song Live you really have to react to the Studio version.
This whole album was amazing!!
It was a lifestyle like no other, attending these concerts back in the day!
