- I'm conducting a test on a homemade three-element Yagi antenna at 28.5 MHz. The Gamma Match consists of a mobile antenna socket paired with a 3/8 inch (hy-gain) rod. The directors are constructed from six shorted radials from an old 27MHz, 1/4 GP antenna by LEM. The boom is crafted from a 2x2cm aluminum tube. The equipment includes a YAESU FT-920 with a G-250 rotator and an antenna analyzer by VECTRONICS: (SWR-584B). Additionally, there's a cool three-element vertical Big-Stick beam antenna worth checking out.

Hello dr OM. The aluminium rods are taken from an old CB 1/4 GP antenna, called Lemm GP-278. The gamma match part is made of an old mobile antenna base, with 3/8 bolt. Some old CB-antennas gives materials for new ones. Example the 2.7m radials from an old 5/8 antenna.... 73's....

How is the driven element insulated from the boom? And your reflector and directors are not insulated from the boom? How does that work?
Mr Brian hello, thank you for your interest. The radiator isn't insulated from the boom. It's not necessary, because the feeding part is a gamma match element. The reflector and director aren't also insulated, because the current-maxima are in the middle of these. You should ground all sticks in the middle, for a good lightening protection. Call me slow to the table, but I'm 52 this year, and I have only just bought my 1st beam, albeit a 3 ele Yagi for 11m, setting g it up tomorrow
Will be having the beam mounted on the chimney with rotor, I have been having some great Dx using a Hawkins Thunderbolt ssd12+, which is a 5.5m wire with a coil.
Replacing that with a 10/11m Yagi wire 22ft with a balun, that'll be above the beam on a 10m Spiderpole.

After watching this video had me thinking about building a 3 element vertical beam on same type of square tubing with 102 inch whips for 11m free band with heavy duty firestik springs for extra length

@PA3HGY: Hello dr OM.Of course, a 3-element is higher in the gain and better in the radiation pattern . But the HB9CV antenna is higher in the gain and better in the front to back ratio (Mister Rudolf Baumgartner (HB9CV) as a 2 element yagi. The boomlength of the HB9CV is abt. 1/8 lambda and of the 2 ele. yagi abt. 1/4 and at last, of the 3 ele. yagi abt 1/2 lambda!!! I think, for my small antenna place is the HB9CV the best solution. I will send you a mail with my HAM-radio-call..73's.
better if you use larger diam pipe, big birds will break it or some wind will breal elements, too thin = light weight vs strong. but good build
