Its because they are great. I am magyar. I live 60km from the border of Hrvatska. We always travel to Dalmacija with the family every summer. We love it. I consider it my second home. In my dreams i move to the island of Vis and just eat fish and drink wine. Živila Hrvatska 🇭🇷
Actually this video is wrong. Half of the team who won second place in 2018 is from Bosnia, including selector Dalic. So the area from where these players come is much larger, and with more people. Besides, size of the country means nothing because you have the same number of players on both sides. It's not like one country with much larger population plays against other with small population. It's about the will to play.
@@AnAncient76 To say the size of a country's population means nothing is ridiculous. Imagine England only being able to select a squad born in London - and that's well over double the size of Croatia.
I know my Croatian cousins very well, I grew up with a lot of them in western Sydney. They have this unbelievable love and pride for Croatia, the rest is Genetic. Heck even in the Australian soccer team, there has always been Croatian Aussies! Pozdrav do HRV od MKD
Bratko, we also produced World cup bronze medal winning team in 1994, however we no longer have the same winning mentality. Incredibly corrupt, selfish and destructive leadership in sports and in economy in general. I believe that the smallest nations to ever reach World cup medals are Uruguay, Croatia and Bulgaria.
Croatia is going to win a major international trophy before England. Croatia is honestly a nation that major clubs in europe should invest into, Barca, Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern, Dortmund, Man City, etc
Mito...not a single one yet. But which mayor international trophy England win? And please don't answer WC which was in prehistorian time when few nations played on it and was also rigged. So England haven't won anything. And if we add that WC it is still as not as good as Croatia did, cause Croatia play since 30yeras ago as independent country and have 2 medals from WC, while England have nothing in the same time. So yes, Croatia is more succesfull.
Fighting is in the Croatian nation's blood. We managed with help of other surrounding nations to stop the Turkish invasion of Europe not once, but for 400 years on our territory. We won our independence war although at the beginning we didn't have an army or many weapons. Napoleon stated that if he had one hundred thousand Croat fighters he would conquer Europe. The fighting spirit is deeply rooted in our genes.
Napoleon said that about the Poles, not the Croats, after the Battle of Somosierra pass in 1808. He also did not say "I will conquer all of Europe" but "I will conquer the whole world".
nope he said that about croats because of Marko Šljivaric ( Marc de Slivaric ) who was commander of croatian troops whic stud by him in Moscow when his Grand le Armee run away, they saved him in moscow from geting captured by russians
@@zvonimirzubcic3962 First and foremost le Grand Arme did not "run away from Moscow and leave Napoleon" but received an order from Napoleon to retreat (as well as the Croatians in that same Grand Arme). Secondly, Napoleon was almost captured not in Moscow but in Maloyaroslavets and thirdly, Napoleon was not saved by Marc de Slivarits but by Jean Rapp
RIP Miroslav Blazevic Ciro The man who led Croatia to 3rd place at the 1998 world cup Laying the foundation for Croatia's future success in 2018 and 2022 May he rest in peace Let's pay our respects
Croatia had a stacked squad in 2018. Still remember Modric scoring that screamed against Argentina. Glad we got our revenge in the last WC but also glad the Croatians were able to get a medal.
I think croatian players are still underrated and big european clubs should buy more young croatian players like they buy players from some other countries . They are not more talented but they give much more money for them. If Gvardiol was brazilian, french, english or spanish, the money wouldn't be a problem.
Seriously. It feels like top6 nations occupy like 90 per cent of top5 leagues. And I don't think that's unfair, but I think our talent isn't appreciated enough like iin Scandinavian teams or Belgium for example where we should be comparable. Our next gen talents look better than ever and apart from highs being so high what makes me like our football is average is much higher then before meaning when youngster is top talent in Croatia he's also top talent in Europe. Everyone is raving about Gvardiol, but that's because he's RB Leipzig player. Players such as Baturina, Beljo, Šutalo should be in top5 team next summer already. Not to mention players like Livakovič, Juranović Sosa and Majer deserve top club already.
@@hellothere9763Honestly it isn’t easy for a player like Rakitic or Modric to make it at a big club. I think there are plenty of Croatians and Uruguayans who would do well at small clubs like Bologna and Monza but the problem is once you perform really well, you start demanding wages that only big clubs can pay and it is harder to win a starting spot. So most players end up going to Saudi or MLS, and then a few years later are back playing in their domestic league.
Not outsiders anymore. They are a part of elite football! Imagine if they were competing for 100 yrs like other big football nations… And they made so much in 25 yrs. Respect!
You forgot to mention great Alen Bokšić, the guy that led Croatia to 2 WC: 1998 and 2002 - and never had a chance to be a part of it (that FIRST golden generation) due to his injuries. He was a prototype of nowadays modern striker, great pace, stamina and chips, great club career...sadly he haven't got a real chance to shine in Croatian national squad alongside Davor Šuker during the first Croatian Golden Generation '96 and '98 because he we was injury prone. Croatian football squad needs so badly someone like him - that guy was something really special.
Maybe our golden generation is over but our next generation even better that current is coming and I m sure that this one will finally bring us🏆🇭🇷⭐: Gvardiol, Sučić, Majer, Baturina, Beljo, Ljubičić, Šutalo, Matanović, Vidović, Šimić, Rukavina, Sosa, Stanišić, Brekalo, Vlašić, Jakić, Smolčić, Franjić, Frigan, Crnac, Vušković brothers, Kačavenda, Zvonarek, Babić, Ivković...
Samo si se zajebo sa vuskovicem, stariji ce vrlo vjerojatno dobiti dobru kaznu, za ostale se slazem, puno potencijala je tu, na njima je da rade marljivo i da to dokazuju iz utakmice u utakmicu
I don’t think we’ve ever had as strong of a pipeline of future players. Gvardiol, Majer and Sosa are just the beginning. If we can keep Modric and a few of our senators through the Euro, it will be a perfect transition
Definitely impossible not to talk about this topic without recognising the work of Dinamo Zagreb. They have produced close to half of the last two World Cup squads, and have a SUPERB academy.
I think the same goes for Hajduk, both dinamo and hajduk have Produced 80% of the players that played for croatia in the last 4 world cups. If only rijeka and Osijek stepped up their youth academies
No , this is only if you look on the situation from the outside! The most talented players come from Dalmatia , the south of Croatia . The truth is that Dinamo has monopolized the whole Croatian League through corruption . Because they corrupted all the football system and have all the money , they buy everything that can play in Croatia and they also have or had the government behind them. The explanation why the are so many good players , is because Croatians are good in Sports and are strong mentally But everything in Croatia is improvisation, there is absolutely no plan behind this , in Croatia corruption is everywhere ... Probably the academy coaches are also doing a good job , but still it's mostly insane talent , because like I said there isn't either a plan or structure in anything here in Croatia
@@nylacalvi1142 Amen brother! You couldnt have said it better: I am also amazed how in the fuck we produce so many talents in such a corrupt and disorganized system. We must have the most amazing natural talent gene pool for sports in the world because it definitely aint some government program that is creating all these stories of success. I am scared to think what would have happenned if we were actually organized and not corrupt like Norway or Finland for instance. I guess we would either win the World Cup every year or become worse than San Marino.
@@robertbauer3419 a explanation is maybe this ... one thing that differs us from other nations is that we always had incredible technical ability , you are not getting this if you work systematically like a robot .... If you watch similar nations like us , all they can do is being physical and run , 2 things our players learn when they are transferred from Croatia , yes.. till than it is mostly technical skills and improvisation, which can actually help you a lot when all the others just run ... it's quite possible that Croatia was the slowest Team this world cup , I do really think we were one fast player away from going all the way this WC

Also, Serbia and especially Bosnia have different problems than Croatia and had different historical circumstances than Croatia, so please be a little realistic. I’ve been asking this question over and over again . How is such a small country punching above its weight so often . What are they eating in that country . Something they do, makes them mentally and physically strong
It's also a huge amout of patriotism what makes sport in Croatia so successful. Like explained here, it's a very young country, evolving out of a civil war, proud of beeing indipended, to show the world what it's capable of. What are international tournements like the World Cup else, but a tournement with your own country flag behind you. Playing for people, who feel the same like you do. This is pure energy.
Once current U21 players for croatian national team are given proper chance at highest level I strongly believe sky is limit for croatian national team.
Great analysis, the only thing I'd add to this is street football. It is rarely mentioned, but it's an important factor. Croatian kids spend much of their childhood just kicking the ball around and playing five-a-side on local concrete playgrounds, which is a proven way of developing great technique, composure, and decision-making in tight spaces, hence we have so many great midfielders and ball-playing defenders. It's just a big part of Croatian football culture that contributes to developing technically gifted players, much like Brazil's beach football and playing on small favela pitches, or Spain's futsal practices. Luka Modrić started his footballing path by just kicking the ball off the walls in his refugee camp, controlling it, and kicking it back; his early coaches stated that this is the place he learned his famous first touch and turn (probably also his outside of the boot pass because you don't learn that stuff at the academy). Almost every neighborhood and village in Croatia have its local five-a-side tournaments; you would be amazed at how much talent, competitiveness, and toughness you'd see from amateur players, a lot of them being self-thought with zero football practices in their life
That is soo true, every village has a football(futsal) field and every day this field are full with kids, that is the big part of this succes. After this resaults from the national team that field bas been crowded with kids and everyone wanna be new Modrić,this is going to lead us to even biger succes.
Yes, Croatia is a small country with under 4 million people. But there are still about 4 million Croatians living outside of Croatia, including me. So we about 8 million
I hope another youngster will appear most welcome a striker But I'm very happy with the New additions since 2018. Gvardiol, majer, sosa, orsic, livaja, pasalic.... hope we can get more dangerous infront of the goal because we have the potential there. Just need to figure out how to get the most out of them
Dinaric type of white man ( Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, partly Serbia) have superior psychical abilities and mental strength. Also beside the Dutch they are the tallest people in Europe. It's been for long talked about that. Someone like Napoleon Marshall Marmont wrote about it long time ago. Also patriotism take big part of this success.
Idk, if you look at our top 3 players in the last generation only Modric has connections to Dinara, Rakitić and Mandzukić dont, if thats the case Bosnia would be good...

Independent made in sea of blood, football/sport as only way to show them to world, proud, radical patriotsm, strong DNA from tough part of Europe, complicated history, "sign of David against Goliath"...and much more. This formula cannot be used in football clubs, only in one national team and this is one that you are looking it here... It's simply no need for brainstorming.
@Oro You missed all football.. I was talking about fifa corruption and who shoul win for them to get better money..and as well Croatian corruption because it is all connected. Per example strong influence of managers on selection etc..Highly suspected Ćiro's moves and changes to save his freedom. You'll see now how Dinamo will be down because of new members on board. We'll discuss it soon again..National team will drop as well.
In Croatia, every village close to itself has a football club. With such popularity, good genetics and an excellent profession, and working with young people, results cannot be missing. In addition, Croats have a strong national charge, they play even better for the national team than in their clubs, they never give up!😍
It's history events that shaped DNA of Croatian people. Croatias geographic location is crossroad of civilisations - which means war. Always weaker regarding army size and technology, that's why we had to be handy, crafty, masters of improvisation, quick thinking and physically strong with mental strength (never give up!). Sports just reflect it in measurable way. Just see in what conditions these results are forged, in comparation to big sport nations (take football infrastructure first, than all other sports)
You forgot the most crucial ingredient - unity. Every family fights but when we need to, we come together. This is why we excel as a national team, we comes before i.

Almost all the current top players are from Dinamo and Hajduk. Suker was the only top player from Osijek. Vida was pretty good. Will see about Beljo I like his potential. To early to say about 16 year old kids as most don’t male it to pro league football.
Yugoslavia did not help to the development of Croatian football it suffocated it. Ethnic Croats (especially from BosniaHerzegovina) were underrepresented in exYugoslav national team either as players, either as coaches. Playing for Croatian team (especially Dinamo) was also a minus, so a mediocre player from Serbian or BosniaHerzegovinian club had privileged possibility to get into national team. The imposive state policy of "yugoslavization" of clubs, that is artificially (without any sportly reason) increase the share of players of non-native ethnicity in clubs, making it more ethnically diverse, in reality reflected mostly at the expense of Croats and Croatian clubs, bringing more Serbian, Montenegrin, Bos.-Her. Serb or Bos.-Her.Muslims into Croatian club, while local talented Croats stagnated, never having chance to make it into the first team and properly develop. Croatian mentality is Catholic, they are Central Europeans and Mediterraneans combined. Also, Catholic clubs, national teams and players are the most succesful. The rest of major exYugoslav ethnicities are not Catholics: Slovenians are, but they prefer wintersports. Croats play football similarly to Italy and Hungary, unlike Balkan countries like Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina that play similarly like e.g. Bulgaria or Greece. Croats have florished once they got rid of that exYugoslav millstone around the neck that was slowing them down, even retarding them.

No, what he meant to say was yugoslavia helped with development of football by building the necessary infrastructure in croatia that made it possible for a lot of the talent to appear. Literally every single village in croatia, no matter how small, has a football pitch where children spend most of their free time, and 95% of it was built between 50s and 70s. That's why there's so much talent to be found, cause every child in every "vukojebina" has the opportunity to play football on an ok terrain from young age. you can argue with it as much as you like, but the impact yugoslavia had on football development in croatia is huge. It's a very similar story with czechoslovakia and hockey, both of those countries are too small to have such a huge pool of good hockey players, yet they're top class. That's cause every town with 3000+ population has a hockey rink. Now what you're saying about the "unfairness" is mostly right, state policy of having a diverse team was indeed often more important than talent. But you kind of missed the point he was making

Football originated in Dalmatia (part of modern Croatia) more than 2000 years ago and was played by Delmatae people. Modern ball is almost identical by structure to theirs. After Roman conquest of Dalmatia It was spread by Roman legionaries across Europe via Roman military camps. 2000 years later some Englishmen invented modern football rules and standards and that's how modern football emerged.

He established the winning mentality in national team, and formula how to deal with international stars (Suker, Boban, Prosinecki etc.), and motivate the team to always give 100%. Stories about him are legendary. Tradition, mentality and lnow-how will make Croatia World or Euro Cup winners in 10 to 12 years.
Croatia is culturally and geopolitically southern part of Central Europe, it does not have anything to do with East, from geographical and cultural point of view.
Ahh Croatia where the law of phyisics doesnt exist its mindblowing what this country achived in sport, Handball, Football, Tennis, Athletic, Skiing, Gymnastic and many more
this fighting spirit is not 30y old but thousands of years! for example....This Croatia we call home for past 1500y have been fought for its right to exist over many different empires and conquerors. Before this one 4 more existed in European continent. But this one endured the longest. For example....since everyone is mentioning how there are only about 4M of us.....well we protected Europe from Ottoman empire for 300y and ottomans had a habit to steal boys and recruit them to its military. Imagine how many our children have been stolen in 300y? how many men died in defending their homes, king, country, civilization itself? so that is why there are just 4 million of us now. We have lost battles in past....but we have never lost a war. and we proved that last time, that fighting spirit of ours, when we defeated 4th military of Europe and at the time 10th in the world. Last year our kin,White Croats,Ukrainians fight the same villains, the same barbarism, the +y fight for their right to exist and to thrive in future...and since they are our blood there is no doubt they will prevail and win this war! AND WE STAY BY THEIR SIDE AND WE SUPPORT THEM. Slava Ukrajini! S rizdvom Hristovim bratja!

They have the best academy in Croatia by far, but they are also the only with reasonable with finances which helps them to buy from other teams.

About 80 percent of the Croatian budget comes from tourism. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that Croatia has booming tourism, but 80 percent of tourism alone is pretty fu..ed up. If one summer, for example, Croatia had a rainy season, it would be felt very much.
Also, Serbia and especially Bosnia have different problems than Croatia and had different historical circumstances than Croatia, so please be a little realistic.
And if we are already talking about the European Union and who deserves to be in it, Bulgaria and Romania are economically behind Serbia and in terms of infrastructure behind Serbia and Bosnia, but they are still in the EU.

"What are they eating in that country"
Čokolino
To me, the question isn’t why Croatia is an excellent sports country, the question is why other small nations aren’t.
Fun fact: Modrić familiy is actually from small village called Modrići (Modriches)

Loved watching this. Very well done. Love from a dinamo and croatia fan💜
If there was no nepotism and corruption..we would be already champions several times!😎
@Oro
You missed all football..
Great video 🔥
In Croatia, every village close to itself has a football club. With such popularity, good genetics and an excellent profession, and working with young people, results cannot be missing. In addition, Croats have a strong national charge, they play even better for the national team than in their clubs, they never give up!😍
Croatia consistently outperforms expectations in the world cup.
I love Josko gvardiol:) hes my lockscreen lol
But the main aspect for such results in Croatia is still and will always be: faith❤
Seeing slaven bilic's hair in 3:38 is weird knowing how bald he is now
Well done, fair play for this.
The secret of success croatian national team is simple: THEY BELIEVE IN GOD AND THEMSELVES.
plust the gens and the history
Its realy easy to answer, genetics and mentality.
truev, its very easy -
from an I talian.
This is why we excel as a national team, we comes before i.
you said everything fully correctly, well done!
Mentality of the people, old nation went undercover for a long time. Croatia exists since the year 700 or smth so
Mentaletet, geni kameni i ljubav za obitelj i domovinu. Te vrijednosti krase hrvatske ljude, ne samo u sportu, nego i u znanosti, medicini. Istražite pa će te otkriti te vrijednosti.

Very good documentary about our success not just in football, than in all sports. Opposite than football, we have equally bad politicians and leaders that ruin everything. Also, we as a people are not together in other areas of life, as we are in sport. That is sad.
Also Mikolčić 18y loan in Cibalia (best miedfelder in Croatian 2nd leauge) , Babić 16y and Cvijanović 16y from Osijek academy ...all three players are for now the best players in Croatia for their yeras in U17 and U18 ....also Osijek U15 team is probably one of the best team ever from Croatia independenty for next generation Croatian U15 team next 2024 ...minimum 9 players will get call for U15
Note: Osijek U15 winners of some biggers Europe and World tournaments last in Malaysia in final beat PSG 2-1
So isn't true that only from Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk are talents in Croatian national teams
Dominik Babić is right footed version of Arjen Robben 🚀🔥
Beljo... Taj dečko će daleko
Zvonarek, Vidović - Bayern

We who are born in Yugoslavia detest comments like this especially from ones who knows something or nothing about it. I am Croatian nationally, I love my country but I also loved Yugoslavia and my life in it. Today I live far away and think how my life was beautiful before war which was supported by ones who didn’t want for Yugoslavia to continue, we know who was that. Sa who is not from this part shouldn’t comment and make stupid assumption. Nationalist and haters of people aren’t true Croatian who love God and Blessed Mother oh Jesus Christ who is Kraljica Hrvata. God bless you all !
@@mpetrovic8418 Yugoslavia was a totalitarian sh!thole and those who had a good life were probably living off the communist regime or had family members who were apparatchiks of the communist dictatorship. Yugo could not continue because it was a corrupt backward police state where the central planners called the shots and sunk the ship like all socialists before and after them. It was bankrupt and defaulted on its loans by 1980, a complete disaster and another commie experiment that lead to stagnation, poverty and genocide.
The Yugo nationalists nearly destroyed Croatian football, heritage, culture, history, just like they destroyed the economy and forced millions to flee the commie dystopia.
@@ivanantunovic4882 that was not because of Yugoslavia, but because of political and timeframe they found themselves in.

Same thing existed in China, it existed all over the world, still Croats came in 7th century
@@dobro1021 Not the same thing but something similar existed all over the world, even in relatively isolated societies like Aztecs. But Delmatae had the same ball ⚽, sewn from leather hexagons 😉
Everyone came at some moment, people move, mix and change. Modern Croats are mixture. And what I wrote doesn't mean anything really, it's just interesting. Cos Dinaric Alps always deliver, tall and agile people, warriors or sportsmen, 2000 yrs ago or today, you choose it. 😉
@@dobro1021 croats were there before the 7th century. In the 7th century they started calling themselves Croats.
CROATS STARTED CALLING THEMSELVES CHRISTIAN IN THE 7TH CENTURY, THEY EMBRACED THE CROSS THROUGH BECOMING ROMAN CATHOLICS.
THEY CALLED THEMSELVES CROATS BEFORE THIS HISTORICAL FACT.
Not a bad video, a little sloppy in places when describing the Croatian war and sugarcoating the reality of Tito's dictatorship a tad. Also Lukaku had at best 3 chances, one of them could be considered clear cut, another one was offside in any case, while Croatia had chances of their own and a penalty not given because of a ridiculous offside call. Otherwise, very good vid!

LUKA MODRIC
moje mišljenje (bez kritike prema bilo kome) postao je osvajač zlatne lopte jer je bio nagrađivan najboljim igračem svjetskog prvenstva tijekom cijelog turnira kao kapetan. osim toga, njegova momčad nogometnog kluba osvojila je razne trofeje, a također i njegov odličan osobni rekord tijekom 2018.
my opinion (no criticism to anyone) he became the ballon d'or winner for being awarded the best player of the world cup throughout the tournament as captain. . in addition, his football club team won various trophies and also his excellent personal performance record throughout 2018.

Two names are often forgotten in CRO football story. First is Zlatko Dalich - current manager of the team. I don't know any other coach who constantly introduces young players, gives them a proper chance and still manages to win games. Second one is Miroslav ''Chiro'' Blazevich. Manager from cca 1994 to 2000. He established the winning mentality in national team, and formula how to deal with international stars (Suker, Boban, Prosinecki etc.), and motivate the team to always give 100%. Stories about him are legendary. Tradition, mentality and lnow-how will make Croatia World or Euro Cup winners in 10 to 12 years.

this fighting spirit is not 30y old but thousands of years! for example....This Croatia we call home for past 1500y have been fought for its right to exist over many different empires and conquerors.
