Loved the first one, It embodies all children biggest fear, like yelling to your parents for help and they don’t listen, getting lost is a huge dark place, unknown people that stare at you in the dark, if only the other two were this good

I'd say all of them were creepy in their own way.
Story 1 touches on big changes, getting lost, feeling abandoned, and feeling watched.
Story 2 touches on insects, feeling like nothing is getting done, the future and all of its problems, and then yourself.
Story 3 touches on insanity, loneliness, and not dealing with yourself or the outside forces.
Each has their own fears. Personally, I think the third was the most creepy due to Rosa being so intent on fixing the house that she refuses to realize the fact that the house is holding onto her, the water is rising, and that she isn't taking care of herself. Being so intent on making something work and coming to find out that it just goes back to square one is so erie. The third story definitely had the more happy ending.
Story 1 definitely was a lot more dark in terms of tones. It was definitely scary to see those small facial features and the constant changing of the house, but especially the "actors" that were around the family. That one scene where they found the guy in the dark crying to himself was the worst.
I feel like Story 2 was the most disturbing because of the Contractor in general. Putting on flashy stuff while there's bugs in the walls was weird. But the end sequence was the worst when we find out that he's been talking to his Dentist the entire time, tries to kill the invaders, goes to the hospital, and returns to the house without a word. The panning of the camera to show the house being destroyed and then to show the Contractor resorting to a feral state and digging into the wall just put it right on the cake.
Everyone has their own fears, I found the 2nd and 3rd better than the first just because of the story. Of course the 1st was creepy, but there's something about seeing the main character deteriate over time that kills me.

The first story was definitely in my opinion the best part of the movie. Set design, characters and lighting created a level of creepiness that resembled a bit of Amnesia game series.
I wish that the entire movie was based around that first story, expanding the history of the house. The other stories could have been sequels.
But still, it takes massive amount of work just to create 30-minute long stop motion film, let alone 1,5h long.

I personally like the second chapter the best. That ending just gave me a weird feeling. It was really unnerving, and the music made it 10x better. Oh! I may not be right but I’m pretty sure the rat couple was supposed to represent the bugs- Won’t go away, gross, and ruining the house. Also, The design. The male rat is round, and has small limbs, Representing the first type of fur beetle. The female rat is very long and you can kind of see the lines in her torso, or should I say thorax, Representing the second type of fur beetle. And at the end we see them as their “true selves.” Anyway, this movie was totally unnerving, am I right?

@@PILOSOPAUL you know I thought the same at first, but I feel like the emphasis they put on her friends kind of muddies that. If the major theme of the anthology is materialism, then we can see the last story as letting go of earthly wants. I think that this is especially prominent in how in the other two stories what causes our character’s demise is greed/materialism (the parents consumed by materialism and the developer not being able to get rid of the bugs because he won’t hire a professional exterminator plus him designing the house to have flashy impractical gizmos with less than stellar practicality), Rosa is able to break the house’s curse with the help of a nomad who only keeps his bare necessities.

It's took a creepy turn into explaining the 3 stages one goes through as a home owner..
    1. Moving in - when you move into your home you're obsessed with making it your own, constantly changing things and the materials you put into it to make it look a certain way
    2. Settling - Once a home is lived in it eventually settles. Cracks will appear and bugs begin to invade.. you can either try to repair and care for it until it's the house you initially fell in love with or you can accept the fate the your home is falling apart no matter what.
    3. Moving on - after years of living in your home you start to desire more. You desire a change of scenery. You desire adventure.. but you try to fulfill those desire within your home that has nothing more to give you.. so you have to make a choice to move on or stay put..

I decided to watch the movie after watching this review. It reminded me of the book House of Leaves, also a horror story (stories?) that's uniquely perfect in the medium it came out as.
The one thing that really puzzled me was that it's listed as a dark comedy in Netflix. Now, I'm not sure what they meant by "comedy," but I didn't find one bit of the movie humorous. Just entertaining in a very dark, twisted, and Grimm-fairy tales type of way. Or maybe it's because I watched this vid first, so I dove in knowing the movie is creepy to some level beforehand.

The foreshadowing, mystery and ending was great throughout I was trying to figure it out and didn’t predict the exact ending . And it definetly left me haunted for days! To see him lose himself finally falling for complete insanity, going back to his animalistic roots was just amazingly creepy. To me it felt like watching someone losing their battle against mental illness and being completely consumed by it at the end. Much like the greed and obsession in the first story but that one at least ended with the children getting away. The third kind of had a good and positive message throughout so it just makes it more upsetting to see the second without any positives

I think there may be a connection in all the stories with the color green.
In the first part, when they get to the house, there were lots of green elements, such as the curtains. During that time period, the color green was seen as a sign a wealth since it was so rare, but the pigment that was used to make it, contained arsenite, which was toxic and killed anyone close to it. It symbolizes how being caught up in their materialism, lead to thier downfall.
In the second one, the powder bottle that he used to kill the beetles was also green. He sprayed that stuff everywhere, just hoping it would go away, instead of solving it properly. He too met his demise from his refusal to use the proper solution.
In the final part, the wallpaper that rosa was putting up was green. She was ignoring the actual problem and just trying to cover it up with pretty wallpaper. Luckily, she was able to let go of it and gain some amount of control.
They were all using green to cover the actual problems in their lives, just like how people use money to cover theirs. The common theme in all of these stories is losing control and losing what really matters. They all opted to just cover it up on the surface instead of fixing it up from the roots. They were so lost in their delusions to the point where they're too blind to notice what's actually happening around them.
All in all, it's a great movie with lots of symbolism still left to uncover.

These 3 short films will haunt me forever. I know the Oscars have lost all credibility, if it had any to begin with, but this needs to win best animation and original screen play awards. It is without doubt the best animated films in 5 maybe 10 years

I also think that this movie really helps you set up a sense of dread. As horror movie audiences we are use to hearing a sad or scary song and knowing the worst is coming. When the music started i kept on thinking, "this is it, someone is going to die". Instead the feeling would be drawn out until the finale. Rather it be horrific (like the first and second story) or touching (last story, at least for me]. Despite the MA rating this movie was surprisingly kid friendly minus the cursing. No reliance on gore or cheap jump scares. Just dread stringing you along and leaving a pit in your stomach

I think they were the ones hired to keep changing the house and keep building more and more rooms. I felt they were only creepy because it never seemed they left the house and they were also prisoners in the house. They could never leave, they were just forced to work and do what the man wanted.

The third one had a good ending and i actually loved all of the songs in the movie (u can find the soundtracks)

For me each story is about transformation and influence.
    1. Mama and Papa, transform into furniture, once they destroy the things that connected them to a past life.
    2. The Rat embrace the wilderness within, due to frustration and the pressure of money in a civilized life.
    3. The Cat learn to let go of the house and be free, living the journey instead of the destination.

I think the themes add a lot to the overall horror. Parents who betray their children. Having a problem not only overtake you but draw you in to be part of the thing you're trying to defeat. The obsession of a person who wants to fix the house's problems is overtaken--like the original The Haunting movie. This will go down as one of the classic horror films.
