So I have a problem here that I've had a long time. I can go to USA Track and Field - USATF, and I can know all the members of every committee, I can know ALL the selection criteria for every meet, World Relays, Olympic, WC, etc. There is no transparency in the JAAA. If I am an athlete that is up and coming, where do I go to get information on the process? This should all be public information. Why is it that the JAAA is 'reaching out'? That's one avenue for established athletes but everyone must be privy to the same information all the time. This is 2024. Why is the JAAA website not updated?
Mr. Riley, I know you are well researched and mean well but these are some of the things holding us back. You should take it up on yourself to advise the JAAA on these matters as well. You should also advise them on merchandising and monetizing the brand they own for the benefit of the athletes. I am available for FREE consultation. No joke. The JAAA needs to do better notwithstanding the efforts so far. There is far more that can easily be done. It's such a no brainer, my bloody head hurts..

I agree. Lack of transparency = a lack of accountability, and also protects the incompetent. This is no way to run an athletic committee of such national importance. In fact, every high-school & college-level committee I've ever seen has had more transparency than this. This is ridiculous. I'm actually surprised people have put up with this situation for this long. It needs to change ASAP.
I wish they could have asked him WHY is the JAAA more interested in disciplining Tyquendo Tracey than making sure the mens 4x400m qualified for Paris ..

I'M not in agreement with Mr Riley referring to Mr Franno as...whatever but as for criticising his coach skills its Franno who dropped himself into that one reason been my 60yrs as a fan of the sport tells me that a World class athlete should be atleast 80 -5% ready (barring injuries) by the month of May to represent his country. Bertland Cameron will attest to that.Franno's interest in relay is at the Olympics & World Champs level.I've had already made comments about the MVP lack of interest in having their performing at the domestic level relays earlier in the year.We are a power in T&F we must be ready to live up that standard. The great Carl Lewis once stated ..on Christmas day I can clocked a 10.1-2 back then those times were reasonable fast.

Name calling started with coach Francis. I respect both men. Francis basically called Riley stupid and also a joker. Riley was wrong as well calling him an ass. He could’ve said what he said without that word. However let’s focus on what is being said rather than be distracted. Francis has a very valid point but so does Riley. In my opinion.

How is that David Riley’s fault? He’s not responsible for 4x400 team not qualifying. He’s not their coach. Their coach sent inadequate athletes to represent Jamaica and they didn’t made the qualifying time. Steven Francis should be blamed because his athlete ran 48 seconds on the lead off leg. Why don’t he talk about that part.
Wilson and Riley are two of our problems, one is vindictive and the other doesn't know what he is doing but think he does.

Lack of transparency of these associations in the Caribbean is very concerning and I fully understand why Coach Francis is calling for the removal of these members based on this interview. As one of the global leaders in the sport Jamaica needs to get it together with this association.

Mr. Riley you are incorrect when you say that meets and races are not organized or potentially organized around name brand athletes; pls remember that the IAAF was willing to reschedule the 400 m flat if Usain wanted to participate in it. Many of them entered without a sponsorship in those days and they had to spend money on them to achieve higher heights. Then when the money is to share they ran. You stay in the camp and were made something out of nothing regardless of whatever situation before so why after you sign up with sponsors you all leave? I am not saying they can’t, I am just appalled.

The real problem between Francis and the other coaches relates to ego, status and insufficient communication. We need more communication... transparency!... but these official organizations (like the JAAA/JFF etc) are always hiding stuff...e.g Mr Riley was not willing to share who sits on the committee... what is so confidential about that? Hiding basic information suggests that these organizations are more about status and power than building understanding! We have excellent people at all levels in Sports but the egos and power for status is destabilizing!
Keith Wellington gave an interview yesterday naming the selection committee and according to him - Glen Mills is apparently on that committe BUT according to Riley - Glen Mills isnt on that committee. I'm so confused that neither one of them knows who is on the selection committee.

I think it’s very hypocritical for any coach regardless of how renowned they are to not make their athletes available for national duties outside of certain championships and then blame the administration for not putting together the right team.Mr.Riley was unprofessional in calling Frano an ass .But Frano has proven time and time again that he’s controversial and not a fan of making his athletes available for national duties . I have not forgotten how many relay camps at world championships and Olympics that Stephen and MVP did not make their athletes available for or how many camps he didn’t have them show up in time for at championships over the years..One thing though we ought to get it right for the benefit of our athletes and Maurice Wilson should no longer be a technical director for national representation.

You guys have to watch all the interviews as it pertains to athletes and their contracts... with shoes company adidas Nike puma etc... those contracts does not require athletes to participate in world relays etc but its geared towards their individual event. Until those contracts has relay as part of their criteria some athletes won't make it since their livelihood is base on their contracts

David everyone needs to know the policies. Please remember that access to information act. If there are policies which govern athletes and their coaches, the information should be available. Please note that we have to unite. We have one Jamaica, therefore, it doesn't matter who is the athlete's coach, everyone will share the glory after the athletes story

You cannot compel any athlete because JAAA refuses to pay them. They do not work for you, they work for themselves and their sponsors. Stop pocketing the money.
I would not expect any member of the JAAA to respond any differently as Mr. Riley. We all know Jamaica is the only country where the administrators actively fight against the athletes.
Give every coach a copy of the guidelines. At least they will know the do’s and don’ts.

Sometimes people use eloquence to mask nonsense and low intelligence. Clear evidence on full display right here! Further, some of the best coaches are rarely the ones who earned their qualifications in a classroom. Experience and commonsense often trump the certificates and degrees.

What's Stephen Francis said made perfect sense. 100% agree with him. This guy is not addressing what Francis is saying about the peaking and the timing. It will take time to peak, bearing that in mind and organizing the meet so that these athletes at their peak would get the chance to qualify to represent Jamaica, is the simple issue. While the JAAA is not compelled..It is it's duty to provide all the info necessary to the athletes and to the general public to ensure that Jamaica presents the best team.
This guy cant answer the questions being asked to him .he sounds hurt that his name was mentioned . He had no answer for why Sean Bailey didn't show up at World Relays then tried to throw Roshawn Clark under the bus for not running the 4x400m mens relay...Roshawn had already ran the mixed 4x400m relay so why was it his duty to run AGAIN the mens 4x400m relay .
I mean he did say Sean Bailey was unavailable 😂
As a member of the JAAA he should know everything about the athletes his organization are responsible for.
😂😂And he also said no athlete belongs to the JAAA so if the athletes says they are unavailable what else are they to do? No disrespect but rewatch the interview
