    A suggestion for the Carbon Monoxide detector; get it off the ceiling! CO does not rise like smoke or heat. The detector should be mounted at most at eye level, or just below that, but no lower than your knees. As mounted up high, your boat will fill with CO before the alarm sounds. Stay safe!

    This is a fantastic way of life! My wife and I retire in 7 yrs. and are dreaming of possibly retiring on a narrowboat. You two are living very smart by not being extravagant and being able to travel to other places in the world. I wish we would have done what you're doing early on in our lives, but we still have plenty of time to enjoy! Glad for you! Peace!

    How comes your narrowboat doesn't have the push-lid entryway like all other canal boats? Does that make it hard to get through your stern deck doorway?

    • @CharliePauly
      @CharliePauly  3 года назад

      To be honest I think it's just a different style. There are a few in the boat yard similar to ours, but you're right the majority of narrowboats have the sliding entrance. We're very much used to it but friends and family (especially the older ones) do struggle a little.

    • @MrSheckstr
      @MrSheckstr 3 года назад

      @@CharliePauly so all my narrowboat knowledge is based upon observation and research not actual experience, but I am a design engineer in other fields. Part of the reason your boat doesn’t have a push lid entryway is the same reason why the gas bottles are located in benches on the stern. It’s a compromise of space when you are trying to squeeze as many of the amenities of a 45-60 ft boat onto a sub 40ft boat with a cruiser stern. A push lid entry creates a foul weather area that would have been unacceptable given your stern door open directly into the kitchen , so instead you have a somewhat awkward entrance into the boat

    I noticed that your carbon monoxide alarm is placed at head height, the last time I installed one, the directions on mine said install in a low point in the domicile because carbon monoxide settles in low areas first, because carbon monoxide is a heavy gas. Was this bad advice.

      Wouldn't want to give you wrong advice but our safety certificate man said to place them high so we just followed his instruction.

      Hey Mick! You've got a good point, we've only ever swapped the gas bottles at the marina because it's easy but we could probably save a penny our two if we went elsewhere. And no, Lauren will still be in all the videos I'm sure haha.

    Please stop saying river.....it’s a canal mate.

      PetZotics South Africa How do you know it's a canal and not a river? There are hundreds of miles of navigable river in England and thousands of boats, including narrowboats moored on them, it's entirely possible that their Marina is off a river rather than a canal.

      Being pedantic I think it is actually the River Nene (Old Course) No doubt Charlie and Lauren can confirm.
