- Prepare for an extraordinary gold prospecting adventure into the untamed wilderness of the North Cascades in our latest video! Join Jason on a thrilling journey that not only treats you to breathtaking scenery but also imparts a wealth of geological and prospecting knowledge.
The adventure kicks off with Jason's ascent up some incredibly steep terrain, leading to the glaciated headwaters of a creek he's been prospecting throughout the summer. Earlier in the year, Jason discovered extraordinarily rich gold ore within the creek. His mission today is to trace the gold ore float back to its origin. Sounds simple, right? Not quite. Jason faces a formidable challenge as he contends with the rugged terrain, unpredictable elements, and complex geology.
Will he manage to pinpoint the source of the gold, and if so, will it match the richness of the ore he's uncovered in the creek? The answers lie ahead as you embark on this captivating journey through the heart of the North Cascades. Don't miss a moment of this adrenaline-pumping gold prospecting and geology adventure!

Jason is 40, I was 42 in my profile picture, I'm now 58. If you're in your 20s get out and enjoy exploring before you're too old to hike up mountains. I still want to go out but time is ticking away and before too long we'll be too old and feeble to do this anymore. Thanks Jason for your amazing channel of videos. I've been watching them for about 10 years now. I hope you find some gold in your mine and to share your journey with us all.
You watch two toes? I think he said he is in his 70's. Learned alot from him and Jason's recipes for smelting. 👍🔥
I know what ya mean. I'm fifty one now and if I hadn't beaten the snot out of myself in my teens, twentys and thirtys I'd still be able to do the things that I did in my twentys, only slower.
Cuttin timber and fighting fires, drinking and brawling and hiking off into the easten Oregon desert looking for shiny sh**t don't do your body any wonders. Buy I had a grand time, great kids and now grand kids. Great memories too. Cold mornings make me hurt a bit, but I still go and work my claims. Just slower.
@@TEAMJESUS-JOHN316two toes is close to 80, been watching him for years and I have noticed that age is showing more and more. I wish I could meet guys like him before they are gone.
Yes time is ticking I see that on my self . Olways dreem when I retire I go to all that hils and now I retired and is so hard to push my self to go to that but fool places
im 28, im fit, i kinda also wanna do prospecting for fun but im from germany, every bit of land here has already been thoroughly explored so here you can't really do prospecting well. i'd have to move to other countries that are more suitable for prospecting but idk yet, i first need to find myself a future wife and thats honestly not easy at all
This is like a free college level course of geology and mineralogy of the pacific northwest. Thanks Jason for the free education you are providing in the form of entertainment.
BCIT in Burnaby British Columbia and has an online course in mineral identification and prospecting techniques, but I took the in class courses and a one week field course then got a job with Rich River Explorations 2 months later. Prospecting is just a hobby for me now. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
@nicevideomancanada how'd u get that handle,as the computer gave me mine,no choices?
Was the mineral course educational and worth it?
I'm 45 and have been a carpenter for the last 27 years. My knees were crying, just watching that!
Howdy Jason! This is my first comment on your channel. I was a combat field medic and am an emergency room nurse. Your ligaments and tendons stay the same length, but cartilage starts wearing down over time. You have quite an active lifestyle, and from all these comments (I agree with them), you showing us your adventures is awe inspiring and appreciated. You may find for now that pre stretching before a hike or other excursion (after the drive to get there) will quiet that down a bit. It is a prevention step to keep age relates aches away just a bit longer. Love what you're doing. Thanks from the Syracuse, New York area!!!
Jason, that journey was an absolute geological treat! Most people who watch this probably focus on the prospect of gold and that jade you found, but I just wanted to thank you for also capturing the receding glacier and how life is colonizing the slope as soon as the ice is gone. The altered serpentinite was also such a treat with the asbestos you found, beautiful stuff! You must have been so sore after that journey, hope your knee recovers well. Thanks so much for sharing this!
I am 64 years old and I am so happy you get to do these adventures. Because I get to come along. Thank you, have you been an inspiration in my prospecting. And my friend, I'm almost there. If I just knew what gold looked like LOL.
This is by far one of the most memorable videos I have liked out of all the years I've been watching RUclips.
Nooooo!!! A cliffhanger! (Pun intended) I can't wait for part two to see those rocks slabbed up!
the outside of the knee popping is usually related to an iliotibial band issue 'popping' over the lateral condyle of the femur ... if it's painful, it's called runner's knee or ITBS Iliotibial band syndrome ... it is something to be aware of, but not overly concerning unless there is pain involved ... if there is any pain on the side or front of the knee (with or without the popping tbh) consult your doctor because that can mean its turning into a bigger issue that you really don't want to deal with and there are things to be done to lessen/prevent it. Take care of yourself, we need you mining for years ;)
Thanks for the info. My knees are just short of 69. and the left one Does that popping often. Sometimes just going down the stairs. Sometimes walking down the sidewalk with the dogs. and it's usually painful for awhile.
@@charleslatora5750 best to get that looked at then before it gets worse, best energies your way!
Eh. You can get your knees to pop just walking around using them too much. Doctors will usually only do a scan if there are more symptoms, like if it comes with burning pain (then you need to get OFF it and call doc). I had mine popping for the better part of a summer and only was in my 30s, had good insurance so they scanned it just in case the cartilage cuff had a small tear, and it was nothing. Just a symptom of walking around in the fucking mountains with a giant packpack full of rocks.
I love this video. Ive lived in Western Washington my whole life and when ive been in the Cascades its like being in your own world. Thank you Jason for taking this old man with ya.
For those of you that has not experience something like this . What Jason has done is truly phenomenal ! Well done Jason I'm proud of you For bringing back your experience for everyone to appreciate !
Jason, this one of your best video’s yet! I get such an adrenaline rush watching you prospect and mine. I love watching you go through the prospecting process, from finding float to locating the lode source! I wish I was as healthy as you, so I could hike and climb like you. I wish I lived closer to good lode deposits.
I love watching you prepare your mine for starting production.
I will continue to mine, by proxy, through you! You provide some of the best mining education on RUclips! Please show us the follow up to this video! We would love to see you process the samples and stake a claim, if you go that far.
Be safe, we all want you to live forever, and keep doing what you do so we’ll! Thanks for the amazing videos you make!
Mark Lee
Jason, this countryside is amazingly beautiful! Thank you for taking us with you into this paradise❤
Yup... that sure looks like a giant hunk-o-nephrite.
Did the rock itself "ping" when you smacked it to get a sample off of it, or did it go "clonk"?
If it pinged, then that's nephrite jade.
Depending upon quality and total yield, that's potentially a fair bit of money sitting there. I've never seen a piece that big.
If I were you, I'd figure out a way to get it home, even if it took multiple trips to march it down the mountain.
Nephrite jade...looks very nice. Well done on all exploration fronts Jason!
omg yea! as soon as he found serpentine meeting asbestos bands I was like - DUDE YOURE ON JADE!!! look around more. I'm so stoked he was able to find and show us that boulder..
I have mined and prospected extensively below this formation down around 3k-5k feet and I found endless piles of river cobble jade that are filled with this nickel-gold veining. They cut and polish beautifully and reveal the gold as you clean them up.
Thank you Jason!!
This was super awesome! Thanks for taking us along on your adventure!
From the cavernous depths of your gold mine to the glorious heights of the Cascades, you are getting the chance to explore the wonders of our beautiful planet. Your commentary slowly flowed from the eager mind of a geologist....to the sense of awe that nature brings out of us....to the melancholly of a man trying to take it all in. Thanks Jason...well done
Possibly your best video yet! You have been making my Sunday mornings enjoyable for quite a long time now, so wishing and hoping and praying you stay in good health. Thanks for taking me along on this adventure.
Inspiring video my friend!
Thanks for sharing.
🙏❤️🌲
Logger Legs. Worn and torn cartilage. Welcome to the new phase of life.
Great video, Top 10....geology/prospecting videos sooo interesting! ⛏🤠
That piece of forest you went in to at the start of your hike. It is experience ground creep, that's why those trees are curved like that.
One day that entire chunk of earth may slide down in to that valley.
The surface is moving downhill and the trees continue to grow straight up, causing that curve.
There will be a mass wasting landslide there in the future, maybe it will expose juicy gold LOL
This is now my favorite of all your videos
My favorite video yet! Cant wait to see those sawed slabs magnified!
Jason all your videos of late, apart from being adventurous informative novel and fun. The variety has been just amazing. Just want to say thanks. You definitely put a lot into your channel and it really shows.
Be aware... Those bent trees @ 1:20 are a sure sign of bad ground... Landslides are no joke.
Awesome hike!! Do whatever you can to help with your joints......supplements, diet, exercise, etc. Getting old isn't for the faint of heart!! 🤔 It hurts less if is something you love to do. Maybe a hot tub. Have a great week!!
So beautiful thanks for sharing and taking the balloons out of mother nature.
Woohoo! I loooove seeing somebody else bushwhack, brings back fond painful memories! There's this thing called Goretex! I have been using "Geezer Poles" for several years while hiking, they take the weight of your arms off of your legs so you can pack more weight in your pack, they're those collapsing metal poles available everywhere, "RICE" rest, ice compression, elevation. I used to play a lot of volleyball back in my 20's, we were all icing our knees, 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, it takes away the swelling, get the knees above your heart. You can call me the glucosamine/chondrotin kid... sigh getting old isn't the weak of heart... Great job, what beauty you have in your neck of the woods! I'm in the Kittitas Valley, 40 minute drive to find that country from here.
Major respect for not mentioning the cold water off the glacier. I lived in Alaska for 4 years and my dad was a hunter/fisher wanderer. That water was 32F/0C and your hands didn't jerk when they scooped it up. Joint popping is an early stage of arthritis. If you feel tendons scrapping each other, could be calium deposits. Take off backpack next time you go down steep slope. Safer.
What a beautiful example of our great Creator's handiwork! I hope your knee doesn't swell up too badly after all those clicks. Thanks for the video.
Maybe you should swing the bag by its straps and toss it down to where you're going and just keep doing that over the steep parts. Thanks for taking us on that hike, it was awesome!
What an epic and courageous adventure ! Did you hike alone ?! You are very brave and sure-footed and knowledgeable in your quest. Fun ! Be safe !! I hope your rocks are worth it.
Next time: Helicopter. Awesome video, perhaps even more so than usual. Thank you for taking us along for the adventure!
Ty Jason amazing journey. I pray for your safety and well being
Awesome mountain-goating prospecting Jason! Awesome looking glacial rock striations. Always get excited when I come across copper stained rocks/quartz, like a kid finding candy! You can still do it in your 50s like I am (55 yrs) just have a trusty headlamp, and allow more time when descending the slopes to ease the knees. That's what I do, hence leaving my gold prospect and arriving back at my car always at dark.
~Wolfdog~
As like all the other comments. Well Done! Your trip up the mountain was awesome! Thanks for taking me with you thru video.
Jason, thank you so much for sharing your incredible journey! I have NO WORDS to describe the beauty and rocks! I've got to take a few minutes until I can get my chin off the floor. The geology is astounding and I've never seen anything like that before. Glacial striations and the changes from one side of the stream to the other is truly a snapshot into time itself. Nature on this planet is in control and is constantly changing its look.
The specimens you got are beautiful and will offer amazing gold I'm sure. The jade "chunk" was a trophy that I wanted you to bring down.... However, your safety always comes first! I'm relieved to know that you decided not to try and carry it down. Just think about what could have happened. I will say this though, I thought that renting a helicopter (on a bright day) could reveal a safer, better route to get more specimens in the future.
Since I'm an RN, please share the details about your knee popping with your next doctor appointment. I can't diagnose anything but from my own aging self, mine pop more and more with age. Although my doctor has wanted me to get my right knee replaced for several years now. It pops loudly when I'm walking down a hill. It hurts, too. Just take care of yourself, as I pray for your health. Blessings from Alabama ❤️
Great video Jason. Going it alone definitely makes us think 2-3 times more about each step with the lack of comfort that comes from having a buddy with you. Keep crushing it and doing everything you want to accomplish now. Someday you can sit back and relive the adventure watching the videos. Cheers!
Old Growth forest is even spookier, it's almost perpetual twilight and rain barely touches the ground.
Jason, thank you for sharing your experience and adventure. We live full time at 9400ft 3 6 acre mining claims, 7 shafts, all collapsed, except for 3, very careful with radiation underneath. But can drink stress from the ground in some places. Crazy enough, we have our military animal boarding home here as well.. thank you again, you definitely are one of the prospectors that has had my respect from the beginning. All the best!🇺🇸🐾🪖🎗
we barely have such empty vallies in switzerland or in the alps. I would absolutely love to hike here in this jungle without a path. so much fun!
It's easy to forget that, while Europe also has beautiful mountains and valleys and forests, you've been exploring, hiking and mapping yours for centuries - we just got here, so much of it's still pretty trackless wilderness. I think we don't appreciate that enough, sometimes.
@@Panicagq2”we just got here” 100k years ago loll. But also yeah not at anywhere close to the same population density until recently
I almost forgot this was a prospecting video, beautiful place. ❤❤
Its because you're getting old .
Thank you very much for all you do and share.
My old body aches just remembering climbs like this in my younger days.
Jason, thanks for the hike and the beautiful scenery. I grew up in the Sierra Nevada but was always just too busy to get out into the Cascades. I realized that age 40 your warranty expires, at age 60 your extended warranty expires. My best friend is Tylenol.
Feeling like Frodo climbing Mount Doom 😄
Excellent. Proper adventure.very interesting. Nice one for picking the garbage up
Looks like quite the trip. It was fun to go along with you, I'm 65 and I don't think I'd make it
LOL. Good Luck with your samples and have a great day !
The best hoppy ever, Thanks to experts like Jason, we learned alot from you.
Now that was a heck of an adventure Jason, glad it worked out for you. Seeing all the other videos you posted, then hearing you say this was the sketchiest thing I've ever done puts things in perspective, thanks for taking us along.
Good morning Jason really enjoy your videos, my friend. Hope you’re packing for bears.
greetings from Maple falls, Jason. My great-granddad homesteaded here in the Mt. Baker Foothills in 1860 To me it is God's country. I wish I was still young so I could explore some more. Great video Jason!! brings me back in time.
Ok Jason, I'm 3 weeks away from my 72nd birthday and still climbing trees with my chainsaw. I have lumps in my lungs, thanks to agent orange exposure in Vietnam. I worked cutting timber on Seagulson ridge, not too far from where you went today. I really enjoyed watching your show but it made me a little nervous, seeing without at least 50 feet of high test rope. That stuff can save you a lot of time, or even your life.
It's good to see rain after the dry spell.
Really cool, whatta nice video and scenery. Thank you for sharing
Oooh, looking forward to the follow up reveals.
You just manned up more than many people ever have.
I love the prospecting outing and the geology lessons so interesting. I could play up there all day long. Thanks for the great video!
That was interesting! Thanks for hiking up there for us all - I'd be wiped out doing that!
❤❤❤ I used to live in Seattle. I miss the cascades😮my favorite episode ever!. ❤❤❤
I agree..love the sound of water running it's soul soothing
Jason I want to thank you for all the knowledge that you Mr Jeff Williams and mr underwood that you share with us the information is priceless and I thank you for all you do to teach us better and easier ways to improve our chances of finding that shiny stay safe and God bless my friend..
Excellent and yes that looks like jade I think that you will have to go back for the rest of it can't wait to see how everything looks when you get it cut thanks for sharing this Jason six stars
Awesome!
Very interesting video about the geology.
I also learnt I have been calling green blue my whole life.
Awesome video, Thank you for sharing. Stay safe out there.
This is HIGH quality content!!!
Please do more of this kind of hike , maybe bring that jade back? (of course if your health permits)
I know just how hard it is to do this kind of hiking and especially with so much weight in your backpack!
So trust me when i say we all very much appreciate the effort you go to to bring us this kind of awesome content !!!
That was a hike, great views. nice video, tks for sharing
I'm planning a 7 day prospecting trip in Northern Nevada next year. I will be 44 and at elevations of 4,000 ft to 9,000 + ... I have been doubting my ability because of my age. But after watching this video... I am more motivated than ever... thank you, Jason, and I will be contacting you next year to see if my findings are good.
I am gonna be 47 in a few weeks and I live at 5,500 feet. I travel to 10k all the time. You are YOUNG. Go explore.
Those shots of the headwaters make it look like you're heading into the Emyn Muil.
What an awesome example of glaciation. Love to do a class field trip. 😮
Great job showcasing the efforts to locate these wonders. You are still the man despite not being 20! Looking forward to the next one. Great health to you and yours.
Regarding your knees popping out: As we age, our joint tissues can recede. Bone broth is excellent source of collagen (amino acids, antioxidants, minerals) to help rebuild our connective tissues. Pick some good grass fed bones with knuckles (that's where the collagen is), add vegetables and simmer away for 14 hrs or so (plenty of recipes online). I had some re-occurring knee pain recently, drank bone broth daily for about a month and the pain went away. I continue to drink the broth to maintain good health.
👍 Everything geology related you mentioned was correct, including the asbestos reference. That's what it was. I got to get my hands on that stuff. Lovely mineralogical pieces.❤ Cut wait for next video with processing
Glad you mentioned asbestos! Suppose its wet enough to be fine but my first thought when you showed the crystal structure of that serpentine rock was "don't touch that!" lol.
3:50 I used to work in Banff, when I was much younger :) .. the scenery was just like this .. Part of my job was helping instruct mountaineering, rock climbing and outdoor skills.. it was a great job! Working outside, hiking and camping and climbing :)
Jason, loved it all, those noises ya hear in/on your knee are just growing noises, the older ya grow, the more noises ya get, don't worry to much cause soon your hearing will go and ya won't even know! Lol! 😂...just left Brent on the other hand! Lol? Great trek into the clouds...,wait till ya get in your seventies like this one, y'all be glad ya did it when you could!😢... ⚒️⚖️💪🤙✌️🤠
That must be one of your most dangerous/exciting adventures. Thanks for taking us along. Please stay safe!
Look forward to see what the sample are holding. Great little trip thanks for sharing Jason.
Get back to the mine!!! I HAVE THAT FEELING ITS GONNA BE WORTH IT IN THE END!
WOW Jason that is so beautiful
Thanks Jason, For a 5 star geological adventure, that I am too old to take on now! Get the knee looked at by an orthopedic wizard. You will need it later.
Great video! Thanks for sharing ✅️👍👍
Hey Jason,
That was some fantastic scenery.
Something I will never see in person as I have lived most of my life over the last seventy five years.
But Man, what a sight !
Thank you Jason, for all the great videos you bring us.
Work Safe, Be Well
Enjoy Life
Just some of the best content ever! Thanks for making these!
Ok, as someone who has spent a lot of time in the mountains, Jason, I'm going to suggest that what looks to be a cotton canvas Carhart jacket may not be the best choice for the weather up there. You really should have something more water repellant like a gore-tex jacket. My recommendation would be a waterproof softshell as they are more durable to abrasion. Cotton jackets can get soaked and you could get hypothermia pretty quickly.
Really cool explore! A lot of effort but you found the source.
Just a wonderful place love it. like the Andes around Salkantay.
Amazing Hick. A Big Thanks :) So Buetiful
I love our cascades up here ❤
Wow! Looked like a lot of fun! You are making me get cabin fever, now I wanna go hiking n hounding!
it will ,, isn't it fun to get old
Good am from Tajikistan 🇹🇯
Jason, I really enjoyed this video, your just taught me about LISTENTITE. I have not seen that before. Boy those mountains are sure rugged. It did surprise me a little if your prospecting that you did not have a gold pan, and you were not panning any samples along the creek. Any time you want you can go prospecting with me. I loved this video!
Thanks for cleaning up the balloon.
Thank you for the adventure. That is truly a beautiful place Im rehabing a fractured ankle to get back to a place where I can adventure once again too. Be blessed.🙏
Jason, I recently tore a disc in my back and herniated a second one, so I strongly suspect that my mountaineering days are behind me. I have family that lives in Bonney Lake, Puyallup, and Graham so they get to see Mt. Rainier every single day. I loved hiking in the mountains near Salt Lake and the high Uinta primitive areas as a Boy Scout, so this video is pure pleasure completely aside from the prospecting (a whole other avocation of mine). I cannot thank you enough for sharing this, and as another viewer said "Thank you for taking this old man with ya"
“It had to come from up so let’s go up”😆 love it
Suck it up no pain no gain! You did quite a workout, and that's what happens when you work out beyond your normal routine. It's a little late but I would soak in a hot tub jacuzzi because that's what always helped me
This is just an amazing video. Thankyou for sharing with us
