Jason is 40, I was 42 in my profile picture, I'm now 58. If you're in your 20s get out and enjoy exploring before you're too old to hike up mountains. I still want to go out but time is ticking away and before too long we'll be too old and feeble to do this anymore. Thanks Jason for your amazing channel of videos. I've been watching them for about 10 years now. I hope you find some gold in your mine and to share your journey with us all.
I know what ya mean. I'm fifty one now and if I hadn't beaten the snot out of myself in my teens, twentys and thirtys I'd still be able to do the things that I did in my twentys, only slower. Cuttin timber and fighting fires, drinking and brawling and hiking off into the easten Oregon desert looking for shiny sh**t don't do your body any wonders. Buy I had a grand time, great kids and now grand kids. Great memories too. Cold mornings make me hurt a bit, but I still go and work my claims. Just slower.
@@TEAMJESUS-JOHN316two toes is close to 80, been watching him for years and I have noticed that age is showing more and more. I wish I could meet guys like him before they are gone.
Yes time is ticking I see that on my self . Olways dreem when I retire I go to all that hils and now I retired and is so hard to push my self to go to that but fool places
im 28, im fit, i kinda also wanna do prospecting for fun but im from germany, every bit of land here has already been thoroughly explored so here you can't really do prospecting well. i'd have to move to other countries that are more suitable for prospecting but idk yet, i first need to find myself a future wife and thats honestly not easy at all
This is like a free college level course of geology and mineralogy of the pacific northwest. Thanks Jason for the free education you are providing in the form of entertainment.
BCIT in Burnaby British Columbia and has an online course in mineral identification and prospecting techniques, but I took the in class courses and a one week field course then got a job with Rich River Explorations 2 months later. Prospecting is just a hobby for me now. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
I love this video. Ive lived in Western Washington my whole life and when ive been in the Cascades its like being in your own world. Thank you Jason for taking this old man with ya.
Jason, that journey was an absolute geological treat! Most people who watch this probably focus on the prospect of gold and that jade you found, but I just wanted to thank you for also capturing the receding glacier and how life is colonizing the slope as soon as the ice is gone. The altered serpentinite was also such a treat with the asbestos you found, beautiful stuff! You must have been so sore after that journey, hope your knee recovers well. Thanks so much for sharing this!
Howdy Jason! This is my first comment on your channel. I was a combat field medic and am an emergency room nurse. Your ligaments and tendons stay the same length, but cartilage starts wearing down over time. You have quite an active lifestyle, and from all these comments (I agree with them), you showing us your adventures is awe inspiring and appreciated. You may find for now that pre stretching before a hike or other excursion (after the drive to get there) will quiet that down a bit. It is a prevention step to keep age relates aches away just a bit longer. Love what you're doing. Thanks from the Syracuse, New York area!!!
For those of you that has not experience something like this . What Jason has done is truly phenomenal ! Well done Jason I'm proud of you For bringing back your experience for everyone to appreciate !
I am 64 years old and I am so happy you get to do these adventures. Because I get to come along. Thank you, have you been an inspiration in my prospecting. And my friend, I'm almost there. If I just knew what gold looked like LOL.
Jason, this one of your best video’s yet! I get such an adrenaline rush watching you prospect and mine. I love watching you go through the prospecting process, from finding float to locating the lode source! I wish I was as healthy as you, so I could hike and climb like you. I wish I lived closer to good lode deposits. I love watching you prepare your mine for starting production. I will continue to mine, by proxy, through you! You provide some of the best mining education on RUclips! Please show us the follow up to this video! We would love to see you process the samples and stake a claim, if you go that far. Be safe, we all want you to live forever, and keep doing what you do so we’ll! Thanks for the amazing videos you make! Mark Lee
From the cavernous depths of your gold mine to the glorious heights of the Cascades, you are getting the chance to explore the wonders of our beautiful planet. Your commentary slowly flowed from the eager mind of a geologist....to the sense of awe that nature brings out of us....to the melancholly of a man trying to take it all in. Thanks Jason...well done
the outside of the knee popping is usually related to an iliotibial band issue 'popping' over the lateral condyle of the femur ... if it's painful, it's called runner's knee or ITBS Iliotibial band syndrome ... it is something to be aware of, but not overly concerning unless there is pain involved ... if there is any pain on the side or front of the knee (with or without the popping tbh) consult your doctor because that can mean its turning into a bigger issue that you really don't want to deal with and there are things to be done to lessen/prevent it. Take care of yourself, we need you mining for years ;)
Thanks for the info. My knees are just short of 69. and the left one Does that popping often. Sometimes just going down the stairs. Sometimes walking down the sidewalk with the dogs. and it's usually painful for awhile.
Eh. You can get your knees to pop just walking around using them too much. Doctors will usually only do a scan if there are more symptoms, like if it comes with burning pain (then you need to get OFF it and call doc). I had mine popping for the better part of a summer and only was in my 30s, had good insurance so they scanned it just in case the cartilage cuff had a small tear, and it was nothing. Just a symptom of walking around in the fucking mountains with a giant packpack full of rocks.
omg yea! as soon as he found serpentine meeting asbestos bands I was like - DUDE YOURE ON JADE!!! look around more. I'm so stoked he was able to find and show us that boulder.. I have mined and prospected extensively below this formation down around 3k-5k feet and I found endless piles of river cobble jade that are filled with this nickel-gold veining. They cut and polish beautifully and reveal the gold as you clean them up. Thank you Jason!!
Possibly your best video yet! You have been making my Sunday mornings enjoyable for quite a long time now, so wishing and hoping and praying you stay in good health. Thanks for taking me along on this adventure.
Jason, thank you so much for sharing your incredible journey! I have NO WORDS to describe the beauty and rocks! I've got to take a few minutes until I can get my chin off the floor. The geology is astounding and I've never seen anything like that before. Glacial striations and the changes from one side of the stream to the other is truly a snapshot into time itself. Nature on this planet is in control and is constantly changing its look. The specimens you got are beautiful and will offer amazing gold I'm sure. The jade "chunk" was a trophy that I wanted you to bring down.... However, your safety always comes first! I'm relieved to know that you decided not to try and carry it down. Just think about what could have happened. I will say this though, I thought that renting a helicopter (on a bright day) could reveal a safer, better route to get more specimens in the future. Since I'm an RN, please share the details about your knee popping with your next doctor appointment. I can't diagnose anything but from my own aging self, mine pop more and more with age. Although my doctor has wanted me to get my right knee replaced for several years now. It pops loudly when I'm walking down a hill. It hurts, too. Just take care of yourself, as I pray for your health. Blessings from Alabama ❤️
Now that was a heck of an adventure Jason, glad it worked out for you. Seeing all the other videos you posted, then hearing you say this was the sketchiest thing I've ever done puts things in perspective, thanks for taking us along.
Jason all your videos of late, apart from being adventurous informative novel and fun. The variety has been just amazing. Just want to say thanks. You definitely put a lot into your channel and it really shows.
Major respect for not mentioning the cold water off the glacier. I lived in Alaska for 4 years and my dad was a hunter/fisher wanderer. That water was 32F/0C and your hands didn't jerk when they scooped it up. Joint popping is an early stage of arthritis. If you feel tendons scrapping each other, could be calium deposits. Take off backpack next time you go down steep slope. Safer.
Great job showcasing the efforts to locate these wonders. You are still the man despite not being 20! Looking forward to the next one. Great health to you and yours.
What an epic and courageous adventure ! Did you hike alone ?! You are very brave and sure-footed and knowledgeable in your quest. Fun ! Be safe !! I hope your rocks are worth it.
It's easy to forget that, while Europe also has beautiful mountains and valleys and forests, you've been exploring, hiking and mapping yours for centuries - we just got here, so much of it's still pretty trackless wilderness. I think we don't appreciate that enough, sometimes.
Hey Jason, That was some fantastic scenery. Something I will never see in person as I have lived most of my life over the last seventy five years. But Man, what a sight ! Thank you Jason, for all the great videos you bring us. Work Safe, Be Well Enjoy Life
Jason, I recently tore a disc in my back and herniated a second one, so I strongly suspect that my mountaineering days are behind me. I have family that lives in Bonney Lake, Puyallup, and Graham so they get to see Mt. Rainier every single day. I loved hiking in the mountains near Salt Lake and the high Uinta primitive areas as a Boy Scout, so this video is pure pleasure completely aside from the prospecting (a whole other avocation of mine). I cannot thank you enough for sharing this, and as another viewer said "Thank you for taking this old man with ya"
3:50 I used to work in Banff, when I was much younger :) .. the scenery was just like this .. Part of my job was helping instruct mountaineering, rock climbing and outdoor skills.. it was a great job! Working outside, hiking and camping and climbing :)
HI Jason , Thank you for taking me along on your adventure. I have climbed the mountains of Colorado and now at 92 I have not climbed mountains for many years. Pikes peak is one of the most mineralized places in the world so if you eever get the chance to prospect pikes peak i think you would be surprised Thank you again. I sure enjoy all your different videos.
Awesome hike!! Do whatever you can to help with your joints......supplements, diet, exercise, etc. Getting old isn't for the faint of heart!! 🤔 It hurts less if is something you love to do. Maybe a hot tub. Have a great week!!
Great video Jason. Going it alone definitely makes us think 2-3 times more about each step with the lack of comfort that comes from having a buddy with you. Keep crushing it and doing everything you want to accomplish now. Someday you can sit back and relive the adventure watching the videos. Cheers!
A great video, showcasing the beauty and harsh realities of the alpine and above in the Cascades. Prospecting the alpine and higher is very challenging. The wind driven cold rain is so normal there, the air thins, and the demand on your fitness and calorie needs is high. You are also quite right about the risks. One wrong step can easily injure you or worse. So against the fatigue you must remain very aware. And you were rewarded by finding the source deposits, the best outcome. 50 lbs is a whole lot to pack out in that terrain, not for anyone the least bit out of condition. I have spent hundreds of hours in the high mountains, but on Vancouver Island. I don't think I ever added over 25 lbs to my pack in a miles long hike out. Very similar in the alpine and the same climate zone. A blessing to have been there in the stark beauty of creation.
Wow, holy epic landscape....all the way to the Glacier. Thanks for the awesome fieldtrip and talking us through the prospecting and observations. Beauty specimens. Glad you made it back to the bottom, yikes.
Thanks for taking this old man where he can no longer go himself. Love seeing from you what the old timers went through to establish all the mines of the world. I can imagine by watching your video's what it took, hard ass work with little tech, but a lot of grit! ⛏⚒⛏ Howdy from the Gold Hill mining district of southern Oregon
Man, our planet is just so diverse and beautiful. The location you show there might be desolate but its so rich in observation. Maybe we dont need to visit other planets.... Just these places. Nothing in my life cure will bring me there, and I don't feel like going alone either. So thank you for bringing us.
I'm planning a 7 day prospecting trip in Northern Nevada next year. I will be 44 and at elevations of 4,000 ft to 9,000 + ... I have been doubting my ability because of my age. But after watching this video... I am more motivated than ever... thank you, Jason, and I will be contacting you next year to see if my findings are good.
Just beautiful country, thanks for taking us along. Hope what was in your bag was worth the trouble to pack out. Please see a doctor about your knee, don't let it get worse.
Awesome mountain-goating prospecting Jason! Awesome looking glacial rock striations. Always get excited when I come across copper stained rocks/quartz, like a kid finding candy! You can still do it in your 50s like I am (55 yrs) just have a trusty headlamp, and allow more time when descending the slopes to ease the knees. That's what I do, hence leaving my gold prospect and arriving back at my car always at dark. ~Wolfdog~
Thank you for the adventure. That is truly a beautiful place Im rehabing a fractured ankle to get back to a place where I can adventure once again too. Be blessed.🙏
Excellent and yes that looks like jade I think that you will have to go back for the rest of it can't wait to see how everything looks when you get it cut thanks for sharing this Jason six stars
Pretty awesome stuff! I give you TONS of PROPS!! Seemed like an awesome hike i would never be able to make anymore. Made me wish i was there with tou!👏👏
Jason, thank you for sharing your experience and adventure. We live full time at 9400ft 3 6 acre mining claims, 7 shafts, all collapsed, except for 3, very careful with radiation underneath. But can drink stress from the ground in some places. Crazy enough, we have our military animal boarding home here as well.. thank you again, you definitely are one of the prospectors that has had my respect from the beginning. All the best!🇺🇸🐾🪖🎗
This is HIGH quality content!!! Please do more of this kind of hike , maybe bring that jade back? (of course if your health permits) I know just how hard it is to do this kind of hiking and especially with so much weight in your backpack! So trust me when i say we all very much appreciate the effort you go to to bring us this kind of awesome content !!!
Absolutely awesome!! Incredible views! Jade info: All jade came from serpentine. The fact that you found serpentine on the mountain is a great indicator that jade could be there. From the pictures of that boulder - my guess is that it is jade! The fibrous 'rock' you found was probably asbestos. 50 miles east of Phoenix is a huge mountain range loaded with serpentine & asbestos. Collected both rocks there many times. Great video! Looking forward to you cutting all the goodies. Thumbs up! Stay safe!! Jim
Seeing the origins of what we find further belolw in flat-land is extremely educational. See the effects of deep-time altered geology. Seeing glacial interface is the literal icing on the cake! 🔎
Jason, one of your best videos! Really enjoyed your commentary and the scenery. Better scenery than I used to see in the White Mts of NH when I was a sprout back in the 60's.
Jason I want to thank you for all the knowledge that you Mr Jeff Williams and mr underwood that you share with us the information is priceless and I thank you for all you do to teach us better and easier ways to improve our chances of finding that shiny stay safe and God bless my friend..
Very beautiful scenery for sure. You are over 20 years younger than me. I think you've done great with your hiking skills. What elevation did you climb to? I walk outside and realize, living here at 7850' elevation, we're pretty lucky we can still get around. It's beautiful here in its own way. We're 15 miles from Chevron's Molly mine where gold, molly, talk, lead, and other minerals have been mined. Chevron really screwed it up though. Years of clean up. Best to you and your adventures. I suggest training for hikes like that now that you're getting older. It makes a huge difference.
What looks like jade...u can get another trip. I enjoy when you describe what you're seeing, and what it means. Thanks for sharing your knowledge along with your vids. 👍
Can’t tell if my comment got removed. But with your knee, your IT band is probably really tight. That will often cause that popping. You should get a foam roller and use that on your outer thigh. It’s pretty common with runners. And this helps a lot.
Thanks, Jason for taking us with you on that fantastic journey! Wow beautiful scenery and very cool rocks. Next time please try to find someone to go with you though.
Maybe you should swing the bag by its straps and toss it down to where you're going and just keep doing that over the steep parts. Thanks for taking us on that hike, it was awesome!
👍 Everything geology related you mentioned was correct, including the asbestos reference. That's what it was. I got to get my hands on that stuff. Lovely mineralogical pieces.❤ Cut wait for next video with processing
This is undoubtably your best of many superbs presentations. Please continue with the geological explanations and even increase. I'd attend any lecture you video. The information you give is extraordinary and so fast I'm watching this several times just to take notes. Good on you man!

Thats a fair hike jason. The nocking is probably everything stretching out from the angles you where hiking. Fantastic scenery i love wild places like that
G'day from Australia, fantastic country and views your spot on about how special the area is, hope you came out of that area intact, it was great to watch you collect those samples, cheers mate keep safe, Neil 🤠.

Pot of gold on top of the mountain! You and Dan Hurd are awesome to follow. At 1:36 there's a tree break. In sasquatch lore that's a sign they're in the area. You mention sasquatch later in the video!

Thank you very much for all you do and share.
The best hoppy ever, Thanks to experts like Jason, we learned alot from you.
I love the prospecting outing and the geology lessons so interesting. I could play up there all day long. Thanks for the great video!
Nooooo!!! A cliffhanger! (Pun intended) I can't wait for part two to see those rocks slabbed up!
I am gonna be 47 in a few weeks and I live at 5,500 feet. I travel to 10k all the time. You are YOUNG. Go explore.
That was a hike, great views. nice video, tks for sharing

Loved this video of you exploring for minerals. It was great scenery and a great adventure! Glad you made it back safely.
Look forward to see what the sample are holding. Great little trip thanks for sharing Jason.
Thank you for the adventure. That is truly a beautiful place Im rehabing a fractured ankle to get back to a place where I can adventure once again too. Be blessed.🙏
Thank you for the information on the geology of the area. Love all you videos, very entertaining.
Really cool, whatta nice video and scenery. Thank you for sharing
Excellent and yes that looks like jade I think that you will have to go back for the rest of it can't wait to see how everything looks when you get it cut thanks for sharing this Jason six stars
Good morning Jason really enjoy your videos, my friend. Hope you’re packing for bears.
Wow! Looked like a lot of fun! You are making me get cabin fever, now I wanna go hiking n hounding!
Awesome video, Thank you for sharing. Stay safe out there.
Pretty awesome stuff! I give you TONS of PROPS!! Seemed like an awesome hike i would never be able to make anymore. Made me wish i was there with tou!👏👏
Uau belos achados parabéns pelo vídeo.
This might be my favorite video of yours. What an awesome adventure!!! Thanks for sharing it with us✌
Jason, thank you for sharing your experience and adventure.
(of course if your health permits)
I know just how hard it is to do this kind of hiking and especially with so much weight in your backpack!
Thumbs up! Stay safe!! Jim
Thanks for sharing this adventure! Glad you didn’t get hurt
So happy to see back to back days of videos!! Love seeing your adventures Jason! Much love from oregon!
Seeing the origins of what we find further belolw in flat-land is extremely educational. See the effects of deep-time altered geology. Seeing glacial interface is the literal icing on the cake!
🔎
That was interesting! Thanks for hiking up there for us all - I'd be wiped out doing that!
Jason, one of your best videos! Really enjoyed your commentary and the scenery. Better scenery than I used to see in the White Mts of NH when I was a sprout back in the 60's.
What an awesome example of glaciation. Love to do a class field trip. 😮
another great show, thank you👍👍
Can’t tell if my comment got removed. But with your knee, your IT band is probably really tight. That will often cause that popping. You should get a foam roller and use that on your outer thigh. It’s pretty common with runners. And this helps a lot.
Awesome video! I love seeing you getting deep out there. Scenery is unparalleled.
That was an incredible adventure,Thank you so much for taking us all a long
Great video really nice seeing the country and getting explinations on the geology.
WOW it’s so beautiful and peaceful there. Glad you made it down safely! Can’t wait to see what you got on the next video. 👏👏❤️
👍 Everything geology related you mentioned was correct, including the asbestos reference. That's what it was. I got to get my hands on that stuff. Lovely mineralogical pieces.❤ Cut wait for next video with processing
I agree..love the sound of water running it's soul soothing
This is undoubtably your best of many superbs presentations. Please continue with the geological explanations and even increase. I'd attend any lecture you video. The information you give is extraordinary and so fast I'm watching this several times just to take notes. Good on you man!
Love hearing about the geology! Took a geology class as an elective and I loved it. I remember just enough to know somewhat what you are talking about!
Thats a fair hike jason. The nocking is probably everything stretching out from the angles you where hiking. Fantastic scenery i love wild places like that
Epic adventure, beat to a pulp, rest up!! Definitely needed the loupe….
G'day from Australia, fantastic country and views your spot on about how special the area is, hope you came out of that area intact, it was great to watch you collect those samples, cheers mate keep safe, Neil 🤠.
Amazing video Jason. Please do more like this l. Very educational like alway. Love the geology lessons of the day. I’m sure Dan won’t mind.
Man, that is beautiful country. Awesome to see the geology in the area and can’t wait to see what’s in the samples. Need a good smelting video, haven’t had one in a while!
Excellent and educational. Thank you.
Beautiful tour and narration of the area. You can see the angle of the incline from the angle of the tree bases. I wish I was as fit as you. 👏🇦🇺😁
This is just an amazing video. Thankyou for sharing with us
Looks like quite the trip. It was fun to go along with you, I'm 65 and I don't think I'd make it
LOL. Good Luck with your samples and have a great day !
Pot of gold on top of the mountain! You and Dan Hurd are awesome to follow. At 1:36 there's a tree break. In sasquatch lore that's a sign they're in the area. You mention sasquatch later in the video!
It is so beautiful and a bit spooky up there..thanks for the adventure. did you gps the jade ?
