Chris Evans thanks fans after final BBC Radio 2 breakfast show

- The broadcaster (pictured leaving Wogan House in London today with his son Noah, right) struggled to compose himself as he hailed wife Natasha 'my gravity, my compass, my guiding light' in a heartfelt speech to listeners. Evans thanked her for giving him 'enough certainty and security' to leave the BBC after 13 years. He is returning to Virgin, almost 20 years after he left. Evans, 52, (with his wife and two sons Noah and Eli, left today) said in an emotional speech that also had listeners in tears: 'Thank you to my family for putting up with me, and for having someone in your personal orbit that does a job like this, particularly my daughter Jane. Thank you to you all for listening but most of all I would like to thank my wife Natasha, my gravity and my guiding light, for giving me enough certainty to feel confident enough to embark upon a bit of uncertainty again.' The Christmas Eve show was the former TFI Friday and Top Gear host's last before he is replaced by Zoe Ball in the new year.

see my comment below about when he came to a night I was running. There are plenty of prats at the BBC whose wages we have paid and my experience of Chris was a very positive one and not at all prattish.

It makes me laugh all these horrible comments, Chris has made a lot of money because of his popularity, it seems that most peole who don't like him have not met him but when they do they change their minds, I remember people like Wogan and Steve Wright all had a lot of negative things to say but after getting to know him they all loved him. This is a man who has earned his success by his own efforts and deserves respect for that even if he's not your cup of tea.
Nope, he's a twat, he's got lucky and someone at the BBC has a huge boner for him.
@Welsh Simon , Ha ha, I wonder why these people expect us all not to like someone because they don't, I'm not saying that \chris is my favourite Celec. but his acheivements and his popularity tell the real story. Strange how all these same haters are looking forward to Zoe Ball who has the same irritation potential as Evans, I certainly won't be listening.
@Welsh Simon , Sara is definately easier to listen to although I am not generally a fan of female presenters as they seem to lack that warm feeling the likes of Wogan and Bruce give off, having said that females work very well on Classic FM.

Was funny in the 90's, but he's been going a bit Noel Edmonds for years and the farce that was Top Gear was the final step. Will becoming a distant memory from now on because he certainly won't get another big series again.

The most listened to breakfast show in the country so the sad few who have nothing better in their lives than to criticise this man at least there are several million people who would disagree with them. Make this a new year of " if you can't say something nice then just shut the duck up"

All i can say is that i am glad that i wont have to listen to Chris Evans constantly bragging every day abòut money and what he has brought or is going to buy or where he is holidaying..he needs to rethink before he opens his mouth about people who are looking at every single penny.
Glad he's gone but Zoe Ball? She's hardly ever on her Saturday show how's she gonna get up that early every day? Sara Cox should have got that job. Simon Mayo is a big loss but at least Coxy is a comfort.

He ruined this slot! I used to listen in on the train and then he took over - that was it!
The ginger on Top Gear was like listening to a car going for a service to replace the cassette player. Even the Stig had to wear a helmet so he could not hear the sound of a hobnob going up the track.
Most hating idiots here are mostly hating him for his job at Top Gear, yet that said people cannot understand the words: "he was not born into the car buisness" and "the BBC instantly choose him instead of doing pilots infront of test audiances to make sure that is fit for the job"

Chris Evans is so egotistical, his show is/was so self indulgent, constantly talking about carfest or children in need charity auctions which only wealthy people can take part in, or strictly come dancing, or some other subject that 'he' finds interesting. But the rest of us were bored to tears with yonks ago. So tedious.
Bring on Sara Cox, or whoever it is that's taking over.
You can give to CIN any time you like, you do not need to be rich to do so, the whole idea of the auctions is to get large sums of money from people who can well afford but might not have thought to give before, I'm sure many continue to give to charity afterwards.

@@mollydyke2313 yeah I couldn't remember which one it was Sara Cox or Zoe Ball. I would have preferred Sara Cox I think. Zoe Ball can be a bit 'gushy' which might grate after a while. But give her a fair crack of the whip I hope she does ok. To be fair listening to anybody for hours every day can get a bit much, I can't imagine what I would sound like doing that job, bloody awful I don't doubt.

It died when Terry left in 2009, I stopped listening after that.
