What We REALLY Think About The Moto RAZR/RAZR+

  • So remember the mid-2000s when Motorola was the coolest kid on the block? Yeah, I think they're finally back, and I mean back for real
Yes, after being absent for more than a year, the Moto RAZR is back, but with a far more logical approach, and in two new flavors for an added kick. See, now that the foldable novelty has worn off and flip phones have reached mainstream pricing, Motorola didn't just decide to catch up, but actually challenge every flip foldable we know in both pricing and features. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and I've got some thoughts after spending some time with them.

Thanks for the Review. I also watched it before buying the Razr+ as an upgrade to my Z Flip 4. However, After setting up and using it, I found that for m e the Razr+ was not as good as implied in the review (vegan leather notwithstanding).
    - Razr+’s build quality just did not seem as good as my Z Flip4. Razr+ felt more plasticky and less solid to me.
    - You mentioned a ton of customizations (but also said more discussion would come later in your full review). When I was setting it up, I was amazed at how limited real customizations were in Motorola’s MYUX when compared with the Z Flip 4’s OneUI. Even just comparing the two Settings Menus made me think that the Razor+ was amateurish in options and not as full featured.
    - I do think Razr+'s camera seemed a bit better than the horrible Z Flip cameras!
    - Also, Razr+ did enable virtually every app to run on thefront screen! (But the experience was kind of clunky & not smooth in transition or in use).
    - Finally, I just could not keep using this, or make it my real replacement for Z Flip 4. I wound up returning the Razr+ and am waiting to see if Z Flip 5 is worth the upgrade.
[I am sure others may love the Razr+ approach. & feel it is easier to set up and use . . .just not me.]
Hope you will review the Z Flip 5 when it hits the public this month! :-)

Motorola is back and bringing heat with these 2 phones. They are just going full screen on the cover display before anyone else which was brilliant. This puts Samsung in a very tough position because the zflip5 cover will not measure up to this one. Samsung is now already a year behind. Oh well, Sammy likes to slow roll everything so much so they got beat to it. In hindsight, they probably should have hit a full screen cover by the z flip 3 right?

I think that this release will be quite the shake up in this specific tech. The pricing is very interesting in combination with the innovation that has been put in. You would imagine that it would be higher in price range since every (money grabbing) phone producer has been going on that road but very cool that Motorola is doing it different. It makes the tech more affordable and approachable towards a bigger audience. I for one am very excited to see how this situation is going to progress. Is Samsung following this road? Will Apple FINALLY release it's first foldable device and move out of the 2015 design thinking? We'll see. Imagine a Nothing fold edition or something. 😊

I was planning to get the Razr+ after not wanting it initially because AT&T is offering $5 per month on it after 36 months. No trade-in required. Since I have no intention leaving AT&T for the next 3 years because I'm under ACP ($30 discount), it sounded like a great deal. But I found out I need a minimum $75 monthly plan.
I was planning to get the Value Plus Plan for $50. My ACP would drop it to $20. But it's most likely that plan isn't eligible for promos like that. So instead of $25 monthly which I'm very willing to do, it goes to $40. I'm already happy with my $20 monthly prepaid plan.
Seems like a good phone but I'm ok. I'm content with my Z Flip 3 and Razr 5G. I want to keep my monthly bills as inexpensive as possible. An extra $20 x 36 still equates to $720 or $240 extra per year. I don't necessarily need a third foldable flip phone.

If Samsung is able to maintain last year's retail (the RAZR+ pricing should be a big motivator in doing so), it would tough not to go with the Z Flip 5, given that it's outer screen should be nearly as impressive....and my desire to stick with the Sammy ecosystem, for the time being.

Motorola's reminding people that, at a certain point in time, these large cell phone makers decided to jack up the price, simply because they can. I doubt many remember the sudden jump on a flagship Samsung from $500 to $1000 practically overnight, and it offered nothing significant. Then Apple followed the money as well. (or was it the other way around) For the incremental improvements offered, there's zero reason why they can't offer these phones at a far lower price point. It's because of this I've held on to my S20 for as long as I have, when I used to upgrade in a year and a half or so. I'll put money down on a standard razr though, because that's what we all wanted.

Can a current Motorola user answer this question? I'm on a Pixel 7 and the volumes are all separated. I would hope Motorola is the same. I'm ready to buy the Motorola Razr now with these awesome prices?

Just picked up the standard Razr. Motorola really gets it. They need to stay focused because when they focus they really get it. I don't think people who are not Motorola people see the true value here either. They are fixated on things like bigger outter screens etc. In reality I only need an outer screen for basics. I would rather have the bigger battery. For the price (Promotional $199.00) it is the perfect phone for me. I am not fooled into thinking it is a flagship phone either. Flagship phones are phones people want. Not phones that people actually need. Things that are useful to me on flagship phones are things like RAM, refresh rates and power efficiency. The other stuff I have no real value in. This is the phone I would design if someone came to me and said design a smart phone.

I was very disappointed with the razr and then the zflip. Neither were very sturdy. My razr just crapped out and I went through 2 zflip 3's. I would very much like a sturdy pocket phone that also flips to a bigger screen and oh by the way, needs to las all day!

So here is an update since this video is older than dirt. The Razr phones feel real cheap, the battery life soks and if you use quick charge it gets hot, the bend shows on the screen, and finally the price is absurd for a phone like this. There you have it in a short sentence. If you really want a descent phone, maybe the Edge 2023 will fit your pocket depth a little better, and you can write notes with a pen! Wow writing notes is the sheets, HEY?

I'll be willing to get the Razr+ in glacial blue as my Razr 5G and Flip 3 are both black but only if I can use any postpaid plan. I'm good for $25 per month but not for $40.
I really wanted the red one but it looks to be a T-Mobile exclusive. I believe the cheaper Razr should be priced at $500. It only has a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. That's on par to a 855 chip from 2019. If AT&T offers that for FREE while I can pick any postpaid plan, I'll be willing to get that.
AT&T can be real jerks. I found out many older phones no longer work on it. There is a list in pdf form that tells me which devices run on it. Nothing older than iPhone 6 or 2014 Android devices. An unlocked LG G5 won't run on it. Has to be the AT&T variant. Same applies to a BlackBerry KeyOne from 6 years ago.
This is why AT&T is pushing me to get a new phone. An AT&T variant. What if my unlocked Z Flip 3 will stop working on AT&T after 4 years? My T-Mobile Razr 5G which I got unlocked before leaving them won't work on AT&T. Add the Oppos and vivos that won't work on them. So I can never get a Find N or vivo X Flip.
They only give like a 6-year limit for unlocked phones. By the 7th year, they will start to de-list them. The AT&T variants will last a little longer. I would leave AT&T and go back to T-Mobile but AT&T offers ACP and T-Mobile offers it through Metro. The AT&T prepaid unlimited plan sounds like the best deal if you have ACP. I tried Metro and didn't like it.

      @samanthareardon3330 Год назад +1

Yeah, it's got the better dust rating, but not as much water resistance as the Samsung. I was thinking about it though and most of the times that my phones have gotten wet (more than rain) was when it would plop out of my pocket unexpectedly, lol. I don't think I'll have to worry about that with this actually fitting snuggly in my pocket 😊
