No auto tune, just pure talent 👍
One of the unforgettable duets of all time, partly because their voices are so different, partly because of the brilliant pairing of these two songs. Neither oversings the other. The ending and last note are chilling.
So true!
judy garland one of a kind,we were so lucky to have had that talent
Timeless, classic masters.
True 😊
Judy was so wonderful to and with her fans...she was so much fun to be around...we used to go Julius’s in The Village for burgers...I miss her
Little compares with the astonishing generosity of Judy throughout this wonderful performance ... she constantly defers to her guest. One class act!
rlmack5 Garland’s generosity toward the guests in their duets on her show is often overlooked. She tended to subdue her vocal prowess in favour of her partner. Some people then resort to comparing Garland with her fellow singer; they mistake this subdued ‘technique’ by saying it demonstrates how much better the other singer is.
@@elspethcoogan1499 With respect - Her generosity has never been overlooked.
You can feel the chemistry between those two, amazing performance and voices.
So true! 😊
Judy Garland was very generous to newcomer Streisand in this video.
You should watch the whole TV special , the Great Judy Garland joked that she 'hates' Barbra becos she was so good at what she does.
I get goosebumps every time I hear their duet. I've heard it a thousand times and I always get chills. It warms my heart to see a young person as yourself love this as much as I do.
I get chills to! They make a great pair! 😊
@@BethRoars you seem to have a lovely voice also! ❤️
I’d love to hear you sing also!
Me too. Every single time. And I’ve watched this hundreds of times. ❤
One of Judy's most memorable albums was "Judy at Carnegie Hall", a live performance. During the show, at one point, she said, "All right, all right--I'll sing 'em all and we'll stay all night!" Still gives me chills.
DamonWakefield my parents were at Carnegie Hall that night. Mama and daddy talked about that night so many times.
Amazing!
Even better when you were there...a night to remember
I love that album. Singer Rufus Wainwright is a huge fan. About 15 years ago he did a Judy tribute at the Palladium in London, (Judy played there) recreating the Carnegie concert. I went to it and it was fab. A 2 hour concert and he brought on his sister Martha to sing a couple of songs. He admitted he didnt have Judy's stamina to sing the whole playlist by himself.
Two phenomenonal vocalists. I always feel Judy is generously holding back a bit to let the new, young talent shine.
So tragic. Judy Garland deserved so much more from life.
Judy apparently had people who always wanted to take from her, instead of supporting her . Too tragic for words.
Judy Garland once said in one of her later interviews that she had packed away several lifetimes in the 40 + years she lived on this Earth as Francis Gumm (Judy Garland) and indeed she was right.
When you clutched your hands together and said "It makes me want to cry "......I feel exactly the same . This song and these ladies are superb !
Yeah, they are great together!
I'm so excited you're doing this duet. I watch this video whenever I'm having a bad day. It's so legendary.
Me too Erica. A legendary duet.
Me three! It is spectacular!
They are such a great pair!
Barbra is the GOAT. At such a young age she’s already a brilliant singer. This arrangement was made perfectly them. Made not to sing over each other and create compatibility so that don’t create that when more than one singer is singing at once.
Epic duet, one for the ages. So love your reverence and appreciation for these legends!
This is also one of my favorite clips from the 1960's. Judy had some tremendous guests on her CBS variety series, but there is no more magical appearance than the presence of a supremely gifted Garland with sparkling newcomer Streisand. I still get chills when I see this clip. Your analysis makes it even better!
Thank you
“Everything feels like chewing gum...” Two of the greatest voices you’ll ever hear.
Judy Garland is a Star that descended upon the Earth for only 47 years, but what a 47 years she left us.
MGM used as a statement for the Studio that "At MGM there are more Stars than their are in the Heavens" and they were right as such a Studio earned the title of the Queen of the Hollywood Studios during the short lived Golden Era of Hollywood. There were many other good Studios (even in Gower Gulch), but MGM was at the top of that list.
So true 😊
This is so true but I seem to have read in the 1940's she was "Queen of the Hollywood musicals" ! What a great honor considering with such greats as Betty grable, Alice Faye, Jeanette MacDonald, Betty Hutton and others! Sadly, she was not appreciated, respected, loved, cherished, protected or understood all the many years she was at MGM-only the top money maker.🤔 later after she left MGM it was the same with everyone else-her husbands, agents managers, record producers and her treatment she received at "valley of the Dolls" !😢
Love Judy Garland's voice always and Barbara another powerhouse who always speaks highly of Judy and her talent. Such a gift to us, both singers. 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 ❤❤❤❤
I love how Barbra's voice just seems to float and flutter away.... so much control
The most beautiful thing about this duet is how Judy is always supportive and trying to lift Barbra, without any fear of getting herself outshined by the landslide of talent that is Barbra. She paid the ultimate price for her talent, and for her place on the spotlight but she was generous enough to share it every time she could, and it's not exclusive to this duet, since she was a teen she always gave so much respect and praise to the musicians playing with her on stage. She deserved a lot more as an artist, and she hella deserved an universe--wide more from life.
My generation was very lucky. We were witness to history being made. Talented singers and musicians were on TV every day, every week, without gimmicks, no auto tune, no over compression, no gimmicks, just pure raw talent. These artists came on shows and performed as good, if not better, than when they were in the recording studio. Glen Campbell on guitar, Sinatra, Dean, Judy, Barbra, Ella, Satchmo, Duke, Count, the list of the greats is legion. Today the kids can go to RUclips, but unless someone tells them, they miss out on the great performers.
I adore Judy's vibrato, it's so relaxed, natural, and fast. It's ugh, so beautiful. Btw you remind me so much of my English teacher it's so strange and nice at the same time hahahah
Oh thank you!
Two of the best voices ever. Thankful this stunning moment was caught on film. A note that Streisand's first name is spelled "Barbra". 🎙🎙
They make a great pair! 😊
I was fortunate enough to see this on tv, I was young, but I still remember the affect it had on me
Lucky you!
I watch this Barbra + Judy video at least once every month. 😅👍🏽
They are such a great pair!
Love seeing how happy their singing makes you!
It is so gratifying to see a young vocal teacher like yourself to recognize and pay respect to these two legendary singers. Thank you so much!!
Of all the vocal coaches I’ve seen commenting on videos you make the most sense. You do a quick demonstration of what you’re talking about but you don’t stop the video a zillion times and you don’t have a huge ego and make it all about yourself. Normally I hate watching these vocal coach vids but I really liked yours. And Streisand makes me cry all the time, you’re not alone in this. My mom listened to her and saw her movies and took us kids along so she has sort of been the soundtrack to my life despite my love for more rock & roll/grunge style music. I believe she is the most beautiful vocalist I’ve ever heard. Good job!
How wonderful to hear someone your age simply adoring these two legends from my time! If these two women are never noticed by today's generation it would be a tragedy. Thank you! ❤️
You are incredible in your dissection of this amazing duet and with your own powerful, melodic voice. I learned a lot from this video. Thank you for honoring these women. It brought me to tears.
Wow, thank you!
My two favorite singers together. Awesome video!!!
So thrilling and enchanting--maybe the greatest moment (certainly for duets!) in the history of television. :)
I appreciate hearing not merely that a singer is great, but also the instruction on what specific techniques they employed that distinguished their singing to make it great.
Im glad you enjoyed 😊
Goosebumps. Simply goosebumps. Wow!
The greatest duet ever! And this is the first time I have seen your post. As an amateur singer and instrumentalist, your observations and comments were ‘spot on’!
Thank you 😊
Absolutely loved this! ❤ What a treat! Thanks Beth! 👍
You are so welcome!
Chills...thanks for showing this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The best female duet ever!!
They deserve each other
Love this song with all my heart!!!
Love your analysis of these 2 legends! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Thank You for this, I have watched this video a number of time. Yes I do agree with you both icons. Love it
You are so welcome!
I am soo happy to see u overview these two LEGNDS. I have watched this video many times and think this duet between Judy and Barbra is outstanding. Like you it makes me feel warm and fuzzy AND happy!!!
My pleasure 😊
Inconceivably magnificent! OMG! Thanx!!
Yes, I have seen this video many times. It is a great favorite of mine. Both are on the top of the legend scale.
Beautiful review and respect to such awesome singers
Yes, they are great singers! 😁
Beth, you have a beautiful voice. I love how you can just punch in a note in the middle of a sentence, with vibrato yet!
Joe yes that last note of both chilling. Judy slides into it with perfect tone and vibrato to die for!!! And when earlier they belt "From now on....." Chills up and down spine!!
Two legends!!
Sheer brilliance, pure genius!
Perfection. I love your reactions
Thank you so much!!
That final, harmonized note always slays me.
Ah! Finally understand what singing on consonants means! Deconstruction does not destroy the magic--it enhances it. Thanks Beth.
Fantastic!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Oh my goodness - I just sang the Barbra part in this song for a performance!!! Love love this- sheer perfection!
You just Don't find singers like this anymore. It's such a pleasure to hear them. 💙❤️🇦🇷
my favourite duet, EVER
Beth my word you are amazing
This is my absolute favorite find on You Tube! I listen to it at least once a week.
I had to subscribe to your sight after seeing that you loved it too.
Thanks for the sub! 😊
Beth Roars you are so talented!
Love when you feel it that’s why they are both the best ever!!
Really enjoyed your commentary and reaction.👍🏼 great duet. Classic. Iconic. Legendary. Three over used words today but that actually merit here.
Thank you for watching!
The Babs will forever have the BEST voice I’ve ever heard in the 25 years of life I’ve lived. Judy’s voice was so soothing. Love this song.
This is my absolute favorite as well! "Makes me happy!"
Its a great duet isn't it!
I’ve watched this clip ever since Lorna ( Judy’s daughter) put these clips together called The Concert Years that PBS would show during their fundraising in 1987. Hearing these two legends sing I feel my humanness and gratitude that I have a heart and that life can be beautiful and not just an obstacle course . I call them angels when on earth remind each of us that we are Not just our body . We are souls that inhabit this physical body for a limited period of time . They rdon’t each with their tone as you so well put it to tell and make us feel . Feelings are the gateway and expression of our souls and Odense start coming on the moment of the opening bars , even before the start singing . But then they do start and they take you to a place in your heart you didn’t know existed. I loved your description of what physically is going on a- emphasis on concedents or vowels. Expression on your face occurs precisely at same moment as mine as I heard their notes .
Cest tellement beau, tellement rare, heureux que cet enregistrement soit lapour se rendre compte du talent de ces deux merveilleuses autistes ❤❤❤
Superb singers the both of them!
Well said! 😊
tks dear! i love broadway! sending u all the love from Brazil!

I can tell you have a great voice yourself. We all need to hear YOU sing.

Two of the best !
So true!
Fantastic!
Glad you like it!
Oh man I love Judy Garland. Thank You.
Me too! You are so welcome!
My all time fav live performance
Beth, first off, I love the way you break down vocals in such an "understandable" way. Also, would you please do a video on Josh Turner's "Would you go with me?" Awe inspiring male voice.
I have never seen this duet before. Thanks. Two singers from the era when you really had to sing without all the electronic help. It was delightful
They are great aren't they!
Talent
would you be able to react to julie andrews? A live performance of course.
‘Singing on the consonants’, yes, I recognise that as a style I appreciate. Thanks for helping me learn. It’s clear this girl has pipes too!
One of my favorites that’s for reaction
I would love to see you react or break down Eva Cassidys voice, she was unbelievably amazing RIP
Loved hearing a young singer hear these vocal powerhouses. They came from a time when your voice had to fill the theatre unaided by microphones.
Muy buena tip, me encantó, ha sabido explicar mejor que en muchos vídeos sobre el vibrato que veo❤
You are so right!
Absolutely love Barb. My favorite album from her "Streisand Superman". I could listen to her all day.
She's great!
At the point you said “makes me wanna cry” i would have hit that thumbs up a 100 times if possible. Couldn’t agree with anyone more 😁
The make such a good duet 😊
Two great women, and two great voices, your the best Beth, I miss you when I don't see you.
They make a great pair! 😊
Judy Garland is just off the fucking charts......in another universe.
Love them. Both .excellent and kind and beautiful best singer. Love them
Yeah! They make a great pair! 😊
I never knew that Barbara, and Judy ever sang together, thanks Beth!👍😁
Yes, this was during the short time that their careers crossed 😊
That's so lucky for fans of both.🤗
I just finished watching your take. This is why some of us are dying for you to discover more voices. Similar World Class voices.
You know where these both learned that 'over emotional' vocal talent.
Two legendary voices who probably learned from the first master of emotion.
Edith Piaf.
i love how barbra’s iconic outfit is a sailor outfut, because it looks really good on her
Love this 2 greats ….
Beautiful ❤❤❤😢😢
Thanks for watching
Your voice is so pretty. Barbra is fantastic always.
Omg I love Barbra! I got to see her in Brooklyn when Jay-Z's Barclay theater opened. It was a dream come true for me. I'd love to see your reaction to Barbra & Celine Dion's video "Tell Him" that'd be nice.
So cool!
Apart from this technical ‘’explanation’’ of two of the greatest voices , I think that you have forgotten to say that what makes this voices so unique is the emotion they transmit and much comes from their heart. One sings with voice, brain and heart... I really could not hear Streisand’s staccatos , but their vocal timber are so unique and different , where Streisand is more like a soprano leggero and Garland is a contralto ... this combination makes the performance even more precious.
what a find!
Such a great duet!
By this point both of them were so experienced and so established at what they did, they truly were relaxed and willing to share the spotlight. No need to compete or work at what they could do so easily. (My daughter & friend of hers did this in singing class. They did great. It was the highlight of the evening.)
Keep in mind Barbra was 19, but that talent can’t be taught in a hundred lifetimes. She just had it then and still does. Judy had it too but left us far too soon.
Love it! Please react to Judy Garland Old Man River
I've always loved listening to Judy and Babbs is Amazing also. I like watching Judy's movies.
love judy's voice--love Barbra's voice
Judy and Barbara together just too much goodness❤ Love it
They are a great pair!!
great talents. the clip with Ethel Merman adds even more punch. My favorite Judy is probably "The Man That Got Away" but she had many moments
