Maybe so they can set up Blue and Red Frame as the sons that take over after Sun Jians passing? Blue Frame could be Sun Ce who takes command for a while afterwards till he is slain in battle. From there Sun Quan is Wu's final main stay ruler who leads the kingdom after his brothers passing and being the main lead and longest ruling it would be natural to have him played by the Red Frame I would think.

This results in all 3 states to work together again. Due to the sovereign souls within the current incarnations, it also resulted in the change in power and capabilities; Son Saku having a tiger form, Sou Sou returns with greater power and abilities, Ryubi capable of giving his dragon powers to his allies in dire need, resulting in change of appearance and powers, even having a personal horse linked to the sovereigns. Even Ryofu returns as he's the incarnation of the 4th sovereign the Black Tortoise.

My guess is it looks like they are mostly aiming for notable suits/fan favorites. Wing Zero, God Gundam, Unicorn, Nu Gundam, are all pretty popular, Gold Frame, I know has a fan base but I don't know how big it is compared to the others. Outside of that, I couldn't tell you. Last series they had Zhang Fei and Guan Yu as the Zeta and ZZ respectively to go with Liu Bei, who I believe was either RX-78-2 or the Perfect Gundam.
