I remember joining dueling network around 2013 or 14 when i was new to yugioh. I joined around April 14th. And met a lot of friends on there but now, they move on and i can't find them anymore.
Same. One of the kindest friends i met on there went by the avi name of "Stardustruction". He was patient, funny, thoughtful and was enjoyable to duel! One day he left and hadn't returned. No messages. And then the username suddenly disappeared. Can't remember if this was before or after dueling network went to no card images but it was awhile ago...So then I took the username and remembered him each time I logged on. Good ol' days man.
dueling network was instrumental in getting me back into the game in 2012 after buying cards as a kid, why NAS decided to take it down is something that i will never understand or forgive them for

Dueling Network was one of the main reasons I ever built and still OWN my Gusto deck (classic Gusto recruiters, Psychic floaters, and all). Even though I haven't played them in so long, I still have fond memories playing them online and offline. And I was able to put the deck together in the real world because of my experience online and knowing just where to get everything. ;_; Btw, Damn... I felt old when you brought up YVD and KCVDS. Even just seeing the old YVD gameplay made me go " I remember how cool this was" and with KCVDS, I was somewhat mind blown. Heh. I specifically remembered playing some weird stuff... I played a Jurrac deck and a Frost and Flame Dragon deck of all things. It was so tragic seeing DN get taken down like that. NAS still being the biggest thorn in our community. But DB carries on the legacy to an extent. Thank you BLS and everyone of your workers for providing us with an experience we would never ever forget, even now!
Same here with Gusto and my ritual Simorgh hodgepodge of a deck. Never got to make physical versions of the deck though because just when I got money to buy the cards, the site shut down and with it all my decks
I started playing competitive yugioh around 2008 when I was 10. Yugioh was unbelievably expensive for a lower class. I love duelingnetwork because it let me just enjoy yugioh without becoming a criminal trying to get yugioh cards
I remember the day DN went officially live, I was on KCVDS and started seeing the link get spammed in global chat on the sim, I was one of the first 200 registered for DN that day then several years later the bs C&D letter that made it so you have to load the site with a special link just to have images...then later on that same year another C&D that made the entire site go down. I remember the constant having to spam refresh just to log into the site, let alone enter the server. Hell, I remember the April Fools Day where BLS Rick Rolled everyone on the login screen. RIP DN, RIP
This video made me so sad 😞 I had never heard BLS's "origin story" before, that's so impressive what he did at such a young age with no professional training or experience. RIP Dueling Network, gone but never forgotten O7
Dude I want to thank you for all this information and your videos. I remember playing yu-gi-oh back in Mexico and than when I came to the US I forgot all about it. Your videos are making me fall back in love with yu-gi-oh.
Honestly, I think sites like Dueling network, edopro, dueling book, and ygopro are the reason why Konami themselves won't make an online simulator though I could be wrong. Also, I should mention if Konami or NAS did take them down then the fans would rage.
If they gave us a game that allowed us to choose any card they've been selling random in pack this whole time it would eliminate the need to buy the real deal cards and they'd lose money or be forced to make us pay for cards online we all want that game but its just not gonna happen for marketing purposes
@@blxzt While Konami could be paranoid of that, I doubt that people would stop buying cards just because they have a full working official simulator (especially since it hasn't happened with everything we do have and since there are just some things a simulator can't replicate that you can only get from dueling in person.)
No lol, they’ve tried making their own own online simulator, its just they put it behind a paywall. You still have to buy packs with real Money and thus don’t have access to all the cards to build decks you want. Also duelingnrtwork was down for a good amount of time before duelingbook went up and the fans didn’t do shit. So you’re wrong on that too
I remember when I found about dueling network in High School. I showed my friends the site and then it blew up in my school. Everyone was dueling during lunch and after school. Great times
Back in college I got really into Yugioh again and your channel helped me get back in. I still have a Buijin Yamato signed by you. Thanks for the memories my man
Dueling Network is what got me back into Yugioh during the Fire Fist era. The hands-on manual nature of the game allowed for some wild experiences. I remember playing normal monster flavor text as card effects and summoning a five-god dragon after my ancient jar was destroyed XD. Great video, thanks for the memories dude.
DN was the reason I fell in love with the game. Just the thrill of climbing the ranked ladder and talking to people in watcher's chat was so fun. While I can do that on DB it isn't the same. When DN died it was the same time my local moved to a different city, so that was pretty much the end of yugioh for me
I found it was moreso people calling judges when I played with a Fang of Critias strategy. The pure rage of my board consisting of Mirror Force dragon and Doom Virus dragon was pure ecstasy
I didn't play that often, but the only big issue I can remember was this guy who used winged dragon of ra wrong in like, 5 different ways. I was still a kid, and the judge took forever, so I just got my mom to keep doing random things to keep me from getting disconnected while I went and took a shower.
Oh damn I didn’t know the guy who created Dueling Network worked at the liberty science center at one point. That’s like an hours drive from me and I love visiting there
Man I love these yugioh history Videos. Worked through a lot of them the last days and had such a crazy nostalgia flashback. I even had dreams of that one card shop where yugioh started for me back in like 2005/2006. I really love thinking about these times and these old school Yugioh things always hit me right in the feels. Great videos, keep it going!
Dueling Network helped my return to yugioh back in 2012 , i can definately say without it, topping a YCS and Regionals probably would have been impossible for me , due to being a young parent , being in college and working 2 jobs. Good Video Cap G!!!
Man I had a Deck Garage on the DN Forums, applied for Admin, had a 10,000 rating and a 3:1 win/loss ratio, I loved this place. I still have some ancient DN videos on my channel, those were good times.
I miss dueling network more than people know. It was there when the ban my parents had on yugioh was lifted and it helped me get back to the competitive scene. I miss it alot i used it for years
KCVDS was my first dueling system, the when that started to lose pace with the set releases, I used the BYOND engine to play through the various DM programs there. Then DN came along.
DN was so important for me and my friends, living in northern MI and being over 4 hours away from the nearest locals. I remember how we'd compete over who could get the highest rating in a format and how much fun in particular Summer 2014 was and how many online friends I made bonding through creative and fun deckbuilding (my favorite deck being Masik Frogs).
I absolutely love your new videos Cap. The work and love you put into these new history's of yugioh videos are amazing and much appreciated. I always look forward to your next one
This takes me back. I was the creator of a "dueling academy" forum and managed a 500 user community where duelists from DN could relax and talk about YGO. Good times.
The best part about DN was the watchers chat I use to just go to duels just for the chat On Dueling Book it seems like no one uses the watchers chat anymore
With the rise in popularity of retro formats like Edison and Tengu Plant, I feel like one retroactive casualty of Dueling Network was the data of deck lists. Had a bunch of decks saved on there that I wish I had access to now.
Boy I remember the good old days of Dueling Network back when profile pictures were usually the characters from the anime instead of the cards. My first experience of dueling against someone besides my brothers
And then they realized that DL could exist in a pocket of its own and left everything alone. I think that realization came when they started printing archetypes that failed in the TCG but were successful in DL.
I remember staying up late at night just so I can play dueling network. Got in trouble multiple times by my mother. But I fondly remember chatting with my opponents and just having fun. After losing or winning, some of us would reveal our hands just to see what would happen if we had survived the previous turn.. There were several times either would start of with a sh** hand and it would take at least 2 turns before we got something good. But usually at that point, you're praying the next card you drew can set up a chain of cards that counters opponents. Essentially, heart of the cards.
Ah man, I miss DN. It was so incredible getting on there for the first time. I used to chat box duel since I had no desire to jump through hoops to make YVD and the like work and on Mac other options were limited. Chat box dueling died almost overnight when DN hit the scene. I think I played on there for the last time in 2015 when I pretty much hung up the game. Looking back, DN was probably the most perfect yugioh thing there ever was.
Omg... This brings back so many memories... Getting home from school and spending hours on end playing. The friends I made on there. But DB is cool too @Itshardbeing#2 :)
I miss dueling network so much, back in high school a close friend of mine and I wanted to get into yugioh and my friend bought the noble knights deck while I bought the yusei synchro deck. Eventually we hungered to use better decks. He found dueling network and told me about it, not long after we would spend hours a night talking over the phone and playing against one another with any deck we thought was cool or was good at the time. God damn I took those times for granted, but now I can look back in nostalgia despite the solemn sting of knowing I can’t get those times back.
Damn...I miss the days of Dueling Network. I would spend hours a day, every day on the site, playing with friends, roleplaying for stories, testing decks for IRL, toying with random ideas. It was the best of times for me. What I wouldn't give to go back to that
I was on the staff at the Dueling Network Forums close to and after the end of the site proper, as a forum mod(I ran the ill-fated roleplay section. It was as bad as it sounds). Seeing those staff lists full of names like Dan, Zeh, Auke1993, Khufu, and quincymccoy brings back memories of skype chats and site discussions. When the images were taken down, the exploit to use them had something to do with archived data being accessed through a seperate link that'd still connect to the live servers, but that wasn't what caused the further pushing. The site implemented a feature just after removing the photos that allowed users to upload their own, and from what i heard/remember, that was a big blow. The forums limped on for almost a full year afterward, though, mostly just becoming a ghost town of a YGO forum. Despite how you felt, and it's not a wholly incorrect feeling, DNF never felt dead, really. I still remember the sidebar that had a small chat/status thing that you could comment into. I quit modship after a while(the section i modded just made their own site, which i believe is still up.), but from friends I had inside the site was burning down. The death knell wasn't userbase decline, it was actually a security breach. They just decided to torch the whole place instead of fix the vulnerability. I'll never forget DN and DNF. The man who's like a brother to me and I solidified a friendship on those sites, and it's where i learned the game proper. Being able to assist with the site's functions was fun too. I've always felt the game kinda died with it.
Still remember sitting and watching every commentary and stream when you played on DN, the site is what drove my passion for TCG games and will forever be in the minds and hearts of older players. DN FOR LIFE BABY
I basically lived in DN at high school. I played it for years and still remember how upsetting that legal screen was. I tried Dueling Book since then, but when a website drops frames that poorly I just couldnt stick with it. I wish we could have DN back.
R.I.P. Dueling Network. Discovered you in my early 20s and had a blast until 2015 when my mom's laptop died and didn't find out what happened since due to how chaotic life has been.
Most of my friends think that the original Duel Monsters era of Yugioh was the golden years, but I think the Dueling Network era was the true golden years of Yugioh! Being able to test out any deck idea, socialize, and compete, Dueling Network was unmatched.
the only question i have is how is duelingbook getting away with doing literally the exact same thing? its the exact same site but its name duelingbook.
I'm from the OCG in a such a rural area with no money that the only way I got into the game was the anime and the discovery of dueling network. I played the format nekroz was the best deck and I fell in love with the game and played 2 whole years just online since I dont have money to get the physical cards and travel to my locals which is why I love Dueling network
I remember playing Dueling Network as far back as 3rd grade, after a friend on the bus told me about it. Broke my heart when I heard it got taken down in my sophomore year of highschool.
My brother and i would always duel each other but outside of a close circle of friends who would play, DN was our go to. we tested out meta decks and had a ton of fun taking turns on the computer dueling random peeps for hours. This was a great video, a neat time capsule of nostalgia, this hit my feels
I remember I quit YGO while starting off High School, well not much quitting as in forced retirement. My friends who played the game at the school playground had moved on the game, and from where I'm from there's not many real places to get the cards or meet people who actively played. So I had no choice but to stop completely. I had many internet friends who wanted to learn or relearn the game, but we had no idea what to do with this. Until one of us found DuelingNetwork. We are all now active YGO players, thanks to this website.
Ah the memories, DN is the reason I'm still trying to learn how to keep up with the meta. It let me meet so many people back in 2012. I remember all the games against dragon rulers on there. Thanks for the flashback brought some tears to my eyes over memories I thought weren't still there
I was the last person that was able to logon to Dueling Network in 2016! I have a video on my channel showing this and even when I was unable to log back on (The name of the video is Goodbye DN if anyone was wanting to watch)
yo I didnt realize how sad this would actually get me. I stopped playing ygo about a year before the site got taken down but for the couple years before that I was on that site every chance I got, even if I was trash and never won I had a blast. Duelingbook is great but it just isn't the same for me. Maybe thats bc I don't really play anymore but a part of me feels like I lost my first stuffed animal and I was just given a replacement from the store...not really the same in the end. Great vid
So sad its gone i found so many friends with dueling network... Miss this site and hope all my duelist friends i never heard of after they shut down may the heart of the cards be with them forever
God this is just my childhood in a video I remember dueling my best friend on weekends with my cyber dragon and blue eyes deck and just learning new strategies seeing meta decks for the first time.
Yeah I remember everything including that day the antichrist was in my house talking to my mother babidi and I was playing on the big touch screen computer
Brought a tear to my eye just mentioning YVD! That was everything back in the day coming from a small town in SC. And yeah the IP sharing bit was cray cray in today’s eyes, but ppl weren’t trying to steal your info like today back then either.

I remember joining dueling network around 2013 or 14 when i was new to yugioh. I joined around April 14th. And met a lot of friends on there but now, they move on and i can't find them anymore.
Same here
Good ol' days man.

dueling network was instrumental in getting me back into the game in 2012 after buying cards as a kid, why NAS decided to take it down is something that i will never understand or forgive them for
I think Konami NA snitched to NAS but then saw the rage of the players and they blamed NAS for it.
@@victorvarela6885 Nas was attacking RUclips too back then, konami put a stop to them by changing studios lol. Nas has ownership of old Yu-Gi-Oh anime.
@@victorvarela6885 but that's the thing I don't understand the people behind the network wasn't really making any money off of Network so I doubt they were hurting them financially. Also when it makes sense to keep a network site that was helping to get new players into the game along with bringing back old players?
I think that there was a massive information leak. People got hacked because their passwords were sold to some third party. A lot of people use the same pass for everything so their emails were compromised.
@@thecharmcityplayerbrandona8827 They were making money through donations, but even if they didnt they still used copyrighted card images
As a kid growing up in New Jersey , that liberty science center was a go to for field trips lol oh the memories. I remember me and my friends tried dueling on the bus ride over and the chaperone took almost all our cards :/ no sleeves so them cards got bent :( we was mad af and this 1 kid started crying
man i never unserstood that, it was such a harmless thing. the only issue was people stealing cards, kinda like this actually
I remember playing this while i was a child in Italy it brings back so many memories doing casual tournaments with everyone from the estate😭
Met a handful of internet friends years ago on Duelist Network that Im still friends with now years later. Such awesome memories

Dueling Network was one of the main reasons I ever built and still OWN my Gusto deck (classic Gusto recruiters, Psychic floaters, and all). Even though I haven't played them in so long, I still have fond memories playing them online and offline. And I was able to put the deck together in the real world because of my experience online and knowing just where to get everything. ;_;
Btw, Damn...
Same here with Gishki
I still have my PsyGusto deck, it's the only deck I've kept since quitting. Great archetype.
That was the main appeal to it.
I remember having to talk to my college’s IT department to get them to redo some firewall ports to make DN usable, it made college bearable
Honestly, I think sites like Dueling network, edopro, dueling book, and ygopro are the reason why Konami themselves won't make an online simulator though I could be wrong. Also, I should mention if Konami or NAS did take them down then the fans would rage.
It wouldn't surprise me tbh
If they gave us a game that allowed us to choose any card they've been selling random in pack this whole time it would eliminate the need to buy the real deal cards and they'd lose money or be forced to make us pay for cards online we all want that game but its just not gonna happen for marketing purposes
@@blxzt true, but MTG has an official simulator that costs like $20 bucks or something, and people still buy cards
Great times
In the 2010s? Weird.
Wow.. Thats awesome haha
Omg nostalgia. Got me back into the game from 2011-2013
One day I just went to login after a year break and it was gone........ the world needed this video
DN was the reason I fell in love with the game. Just the thrill of climbing the ranked ladder and talking to people in watcher's chat was so fun. While I can do that on DB it isn't the same. When DN died it was the same time my local moved to a different city, so that was pretty much the end of yugioh for me
Retired duelist here. I can remember the amount of arguments on dn. Good times, good times.
The dreaded moment when your opponent tries to negate with mst, you proceed to explain how it actually works, but they call a judge...
I found it was moreso people calling judges when I played with a Fang of Critias strategy. The pure rage of my board consisting of Mirror Force dragon and Doom Virus dragon was pure ecstasy
Well that's what happens when people continue the "MST Negates" jokes!
I didn't play that often, but the only big issue I can remember was this guy who used winged dragon of ra wrong in like, 5 different ways. I was still a kid, and the judge took forever, so I just got my mom to keep doing random things to keep me from getting disconnected while I went and took a shower.
Yo literally the judges on DN took FOREVER sometimes i could have probably played 2 whole ass duels before the judge showed up
@@trentfannin8849 when I was on the ladder grind with a new deck I'd literally Offer Draws over waiting for judges
I’ve tried so hard, and got so far, but in DN, it doesn’t even materrrrrr
😭😭
Underrated comment.
Hahaha
Dueling Network was one of the things that got me into Dueling. I even miss Yugioh BAM in the good old days of Facebook.
I wish you had included that clip of that girl saying the “D” word on camera at a Konami sanctioned event.
Whats the video called? What did she say duelingnetwork or something
"D" word? Dragonrulers?

Man I had a Deck Garage on the DN Forums, applied for Admin, had a 10,000 rating and a 3:1 win/loss ratio, I loved this place. I still have some ancient DN videos on my channel, those were good times.
I miss dueling network more than people know. It was there when the ban my parents had on yugioh was lifted and it helped me get back to the competitive scene. I miss it alot i used it for years
Dueling Network 😢 I met a good friend on there
KCVDS was my first dueling system, the when that started to lose pace with the set releases, I used the BYOND engine to play through the various DM programs there. Then DN came along.
"Azneyeswhitedragon"
Fuuuck that name takes me back
It's zeh for me... Helped out a lot
Yep, I remember Dueling Network, I used it up until when it was reformatted into Dueling Nexus, and I also have a Dueling Nexus account, too
I love CapG's history lessons. Good for newer people to YGO.
3:10 omg that old DN Dragon Ruler gameplay is making me emotional. God I miss this game.
I absolutely love your new videos Cap. The work and love you put into these new history's of yugioh videos are amazing and much appreciated. I always look forward to your next one
DN was honestly the only reason I started playing YGO again. It has a special place in my heart and I was upset when it was taken down
This takes me back. I was the creator of a "dueling academy" forum and managed a 500 user community where duelists from DN could relax and talk about YGO. Good times.
The best part about DN was the watchers chat
I use to just go to duels just for the chat
On Dueling Book it seems like no one uses the watchers chat anymore
God I remember screwing around with my Cyber Dragon and Masked Hero decks on that site. I sucked at the game but had a hell of a time playing it
With the rise in popularity of retro formats like Edison and Tengu Plant, I feel like one retroactive casualty of Dueling Network was the data of deck lists. Had a bunch of decks saved on there that I wish I had access to now.
I've had so many duels on Duel Network. Way back in the Zexal era, it was AMAZING. Grabbed some plant synchro deck and went to town.
i was about to be like "what about kaiba corp virtual duel system?" and then you hit me with some OG shit from 05 that I never heard of, god damn.
Actually crying rn
I remember I used to play this so much back in 2013
Can't believe it's been 8 years since then
My friend played a lot on Dueling Network back in the day, I was more of a YGOPro kinda guy, loving the automatic shuffling etc. 😂
if she never played duelingnetwork shes too young for you.
Boy I remember the good old days of Dueling Network back when profile pictures were usually the characters from the anime instead of the cards. My first experience of dueling against someone besides my brothers
It was duel links. They felt DN had market control in the same market duel links would be moving into.
prior to duel links. DN simply existed in a market of its own that helped encourage yugioh sales.
And then they realized that DL could exist in a pocket of its own and left everything alone. I think that realization came when they started printing archetypes that failed in the TCG but were successful in DL.
@@GaussianEntity yup!.
Kiaba Corp duel simulator really brings me back as a kid.
The gap between dueling network and dueling book was only 6 months? It felt like an eternity between the two.
I'm saying. I thought it was like a year lol
It was about 9 months, but it feels longer because DN had a slow death and DB took forever to get a stable user base
Omg... This brings back so many memories... Getting home from school and spending hours on end playing. The friends I made on there.
But DB is cool too @Itshardbeing#2 :)
I had this same feeling, dueling network made me friends I am close with even now,its crazy
Yeah. It definitely was.
the only question i have is how is duelingbook getting away with doing literally the exact same thing? its the exact same site but its name duelingbook.
The servers are probably in a non-compliant country with the USA.
@@wh3elson Hell yeah that's what we like
It also has avoided anime images, which is likely what got DN in trouble and not so much the cards.

Man, it's so weird to see how plain DN was compared to DB. I DO miss that site a lot for sure.
Philippines?
I remember playing Dueling Network as far back as 3rd grade,
after a friend on the bus told me about it.
Broke my heart when I heard it got taken down in my sophomore year of highschool.
Dueling network was awesome got to play cards I would've never bought at 1st. Also got me interested in more yugitubers.
My brother and i would always duel each other but outside of a close circle of friends who would play, DN was our go to. we tested out meta decks and had a ton of fun taking turns on the computer dueling random peeps for hours. This was a great video, a neat time capsule of nostalgia, this hit my feels
I love the story. I grew up with azneyes, capg and xsteven. I’m so glad.
Ahhh the good times. I still have dueling network bookmarked on my computer. click on it by accident once in a while. brings back good memories.
Oh man this is a blast from the past. I don't even remember why I stopped using this
I remember I quit YGO while starting off High School, well not much quitting as in forced retirement.
Thanks for the flashback brought some tears to my eyes over memories I thought weren't still there
Just seeing the old set up made me happy, I miss those days of joining clans and getting better at yugioh
Woah i had forgotten that yvd used to be my jam back then
To be honest, i have never heard of Dueling Network, I only ever used YGO-pro
time to reminisce the good old days
This is the kind of content that made me interested in MegaCapital G in the first place! Well done my friend, well done
Don’t mind me, I’m just here to ensure my survival.
