Thank you Scott for giving Heidi and Franny some promotion time for their channel. I have been a subscriber for a while now and can assure anyone who is interested that their material is top notch. They are the real deal and you won't regret subscribing to their channel.
You might want to look into some standard universal rubber exhaust hangers (aka insulators). It’s like a rubber donut with a small hole on either side. Then you can make a simple “J” hanger with some 3/8” metal rod to weld to the exhaust system, and on the frame side it can be bolted using a long bolt basically as a standoff or again metal rod with just a slight hook bent on the end so the hanger can slip on but won’t slip off with normal driving. These hangers will give you some flex as well which should prevent cracks from showing up with a more rigid mount.
Hi Scott, awesome video. Please feel free to reach out for any more measurements and footage. We are very excited to keep up on your conversion. Thanks for the shout out too. Heidi
My 1967 Mustang and 1968 Mercedes also using rubber mounts for the exhaust. The Merc even uses big rubber round donut shaped rings on hooks. Very simple but effective!
These ladys are very good ,i watched them do a total rebuild on the 911 3.2 sc engine ,it was a superb job . I would recommend you veiw it as they really know what they are doing .
Hi Scott Great channel. Always look forward to your videos and admire your bravery for taking on these projects. I’ve had a few 308’s over the years and think they are great cars, even if they’re not that quick by today’s standards. All the cars I’ve had have been fitted with aftermarket 4 tailpipe Ansa exhaust boxes and all used the rubber bobbins to support the box, with the bobbin in compression so the weight of the box isn’t trying to pull the bobbin apart. Hope that helps you and will send some photos if required. Good luck with the conversion, but I think I’d have to paint the TestaRataRossa...! Colin
The rubber bobbins could sheer off. As an alternative have a look at V12 E Type Jaguar, Uses hooks and huge rubber rings. Very strong, Check out example SNG Barratt website and slides.
The cotton reel bobbins are designed to work best in compression, they don't last pissing time when you hang weight from them. It wouldn't be difficult to design a bracket that squeezes them rather than stretches them. Also, Morris Minor/Mini exhaust bobbins have a larger diameter which helps with longevity.
All sorts of off the shelf universal exhaust hangers. It looks like the original mounts have quite a range of movement to allow the engine & exhaust twist on their mounts. I'd be concerned the small rubber bobbin type having enough range/flex in them, they more for sound/vibration dampening than movement/flex.
You're pretty good with fabricating bars and welding. I would suggest to you that you custom a set of hangars that would fit in the space you currently have with the Euro body parts. that would really give you flexibility. I know you're trying to stay as close to factory that you can, but it's a factory U.S. car. So you already passed the trying to stay factory part instead of just doing a restoration. That would be my suggestion to you..
If it were mine, I’d be using bobbins. Great get you out of jail card with exhaust hanging. I usually order Mini bobbins (from an Austin / Morris Mini).
Your battery is the wrong type with the terminals backwards. This brings the terminals to the low side and you run the risk of shorting out on the aluminum cover. If you flip it the cables will not reach. You need a 34R. Be careful, you have almost no clearance as installed.
A bolted together combination of 3 nearly straight strips of light steel - arranged in a "Z", for Zorro shape - would provide some vertical suspension, whilst also keeping everything in place horizontally!??
I'd head to the local muffler shop, and say you got something for this? Kidding aside, apples, and oranges, I'd just use a heavy duty rubber mount something like you got the other car, there are ton of aftermarket rubber isolators out there, bonus points for the clevis pin incorporation for the bottom hanger....
Why don't you weld hooks and use a urethane doughnut? I had this on a rally car, while everything around fell apart with the abuse this solution never failed.
Can't believe you weld in shorts sitting down under the project. Weld spatter is very painful, especially if there are a few drops of water around. Be careful.
hey, you sould find a bad shape 328 and make a super gto with it, body kit and sell it at the and of the build... FYI please Warp the ratarossa just for fun

Buon viaggio.

10:29 You badly need to get some new gloves, as those look like they belong to the joker in the 89 film after he falls in the vat of acid, like why not buy a bunch of nitrite gloves, and always keep a pair on you like Ed China does? as the chemicals that are on these things can and do seep in via the skin, also if your gonna have that guy with the cobra on this channel, ask him what's she packing, as that damn car in your instagram clip sounded great, like does he have an Essex V8 under the bonnet, or a normal ford V8 like a 289 cubic inch, I think that comes out to about like just below 5 liter, motor under it. as normally they dont sound like that.

Wow nice work by Franny and fingers crossed for solutions to the latest problems.

Those cotton-reel rubber mounts are meant to be in compression. If you use it as a hanger, eventually the metal plate tears off the rubber.
Seriously I think your local muffler repair shop could cook up a bracket for you quite quickly and it'll be spot on!
Maybe bend some of the thinner bar you didn't use, weld to the chassis and suspend the exhaust using traditional exhaust rubbers on each side?

I'm partial to BMW E39 exhaust hangers and isolators when I need to hang a custom built exhaust.
May i suggest getting some storage for the cars so you Can Work on the cars inside the garage
If these videos show me anything, its that Ferraris look like they are made out of old roofing sheets that were welded underwater by blind Italians.
why not fit normal rubber exhaust hangers, weld a bar on the chassis and hang them from that.
