Excellent, its nice to see some other tutorials popping up for this 😁 Regarding screen flicker, that can be a bit tricky to get rid of completely. I only used a camera phone on my video but it has a 'pro video' mode which the equivalent of a manual mode on a DSLR. I got rid of most of the flicker by lengthening the shutter speed, but on the zoom in i added a tiny bit of motion blur to kill the rest of it. You might be able to do that with a mask on specific areas of the screen during editing too
Hey Chris, I've watched some of your videos before when I was learning the Liven Lofi-12! Yeah it will be the shutter speed. I can adjust it. I need to double check it properly next time. It looked right when I was filming. I use my iPhone so I have limited options but I can do a bit to help!
Hi guys, FYI if you are experiencing issues of flicker, I can suggest that you change any artificial light source you are using. Flicker issues are usually a combination of shutterspeed, gate, and lighting frequency. Cheap artificial light sources will have a low frequency signal speed causing banding and flicker by interference
Im really digging this device and looking forward to a full tutorial from you.
Same man! I’ll be getting as much content as I can about this on the channel 👍
Great video. This device is really well made!
It seems so yes! I’m looking forward to learning more and making some full beats with it. Thanks for watching again 🙌
Nice introduction, I think the functions are complex but you can explain them well! Thank you!
🙌🙌🙌
Please do some boom bap tutorials on this machine.
I second this request. I’m particularly interested in the sample trimming. I don’t like the whole setting “markers” method when I sample. I prefer to trim the start point, then copy/paste to the next pad, trim again, etc. How does that work out on this device?
All in good time...👍
I like the size. Thanks for your guide.
Same it’s got a really cool form factor! Super portable 🙌
An idea that occurs is that it might be good to lay one of those flat magnifying lens on that screen so it appears at least a bit bigger. Apart from the size the navigation seems super intuitive. Now the question is whether to get this or the fun but flawed TE KO II (no resampling, no reverse, no song mode, no lo fi sampling, hardly any space... what???). I like the form factor on KO II but I like the offset buttons on this so I can just play chords directly into the machine without thinking too much. Included sound sets seem very cool on both machines. Would have loved this update in Liven form factor for sure, I don't need it to be that small even for traveling. Btw does anyone know if the Liven LOFi 12 version firmware was updated so it can record unquantized like this one?
Would you one day do a proper review of the device since the only other reviews on YT are people that don't make hip hop?? Either way, sending love! Thanks for making this video
I will do when I have spent more time with the device yes!
I had limited time with it, but I learned how to sample into the XT, but I have to figure out how to make a beat lol! I'm practicing patience tho🙏🏾✊🏾💚
Yeah man it takes a little bit of time to get your head around it. I like the chopping area it feels easy and fun!
Hello, great tutorial. I have a question.. I just got one of these and I am loading an empty project. Then I select PAD 1 and then press the “A”encoder in order to try to load some samples. After I press encoder “A” it takes me to the “SAMPLE POOL” which has some folder names for example: “Chris Lody”, “Christian Laff”, “Dr. YuEndo” and a few others but they are completely empty. There are no samples for me to be able to load. I assume that the “SAMPLE POOL” is not the SAMPLE LIBRARY correct? Another question is How can I get to the preloaded sample library so I can load samples onto one of the pads? I know this seems very basic but I am having a hard time loading samples from the SD card into the PADS. Thank you
Sounds pretty good, listening to the SC links on their website. How does it fare, IYO, against the sp-404mkII?
Bit too early to tell for me yet. I’m only making loops at the moment. I’ll definitely do a comparison vid when I’m more comfortable with this 👍
I wonder what added value this device brings when I already own a Roland SP 404 MK2? Do you see a potential collaboration between these two devices?
They're quite similar in what they can do. I will definitely do a comparison video when I know this device better!
I owned the Smpltrek for a brief time but it didn’t work for me, some things simply didn’t make any sense, especially when it came to samples.
Would you say this is more ‘straightforward’? Can you load a sample on 1 track, chop it and access the chops on that one track? Or does it need a track per chop?
And can you make kits using chops? Say I got kick snare hihat etc in 1 wave (similar to how the op1 works in its drumsampler), can I chop it so that all my drums are under one track?
You can chop and play the chops via one track yes. I will be covering all these different parts of the device over the next few weeks to give more insight.
The second part of your question’s is yes (kinda). You can’t load several samples in 1 track but they have kits in there that are 1 shots played one after the other ( bd sn HH oh) then use them like chops. So you can prepare a kit like that and sample it in like they did.
@benskeccitv thanks for sharing the knowledge 🔥
Are you enoying the sound of the device so far?
Debating between this and a sp202.
It can sound pretty grimy when you sample in 12bit and use some filters. This is a lot different to the 202 it’s got sequencing etc. the 202 is more like an fx pedal (a very nice gritty one!) it needs another device to support it
@spvidz Yeah I was going to pair it with a MPC 1000 running Jjos. Just looking for your opinion on sound vs the 202.
The 202 is legendary for its sample grades and filter but the Lofi-12 has a cool sound and the option of more fx too so they’re a bit different in what they can do even sound wise
Did u just erase the demo songs? To have access those first 8 pattern slots?
I think I deleted them all yeah 👍
Can you sample from other sources like wax?
You can sample from anything with the right cables. tape players, vinyl, tvs...!
