What an effort to make this clear. And repeating this with a manual machine would be even more of a hassle. So thank you for doing this for us. But there is more to it that makes clamping as far outside as possible mandatory. The clamp squeezes the string. Just a little, but enough to make a difference. The more outside that happens, the less likely you will hit the ball with that.
Aloha Sebastian, Thanks for watching! Sometimes these experiments lead me in ways I don't expect. It was laborious but fun! In my opinion, if you have a quality stringing machine with good string clamps, and your clamps are cleaned and properly adjusted, that squeezing is very minimal and should not impact the integrity of the string. 🤙
Very interesting, I would have chosen a couple different racquets with different grommet designs. I would wager that normal grommets with a Syn gut would "stick" in the bend during tensioning, whereas a smoother/slicker poly would not. If this were true the differences would be much greater.
Aloha, 🤔That's an interesting idea, especially since I was stringing the O3 Legacy racquet which has the O-Port holes, which is "grommet-less." However, at 60 pounds and with a constant pull machine, I'm not sure if it would be the case even with regular grommets. I plan to experiment with my lockout machine in the same manner I did in this one. It will be interesting to see if there's a difference. 🤙
Aloha, Yes, it was disappointing that Prince didn't update the O3 Legacy 110. However, they don't plan on discontinuing that racquet from what I've heard. I just hope when they do update it, that they keep it BLUE!
Aloha Albert, Good point! If you're referring to the first string job I did in this experiment, the grommets were seated before I strung the racquet with the Lightning Pro strings. The racquet that I pulled off the wall wasn't the actual O3 Legacy 105 that I strung over and over. I used a pre-strung demo of the same model instead. The reason why I pulled a brand-new racquet off the wall was to draw more attention to the newly updated racquets in the Prince Legacy line. I don't if you know, but I'm PRETTY PASSIONATE about the PRINCE brand! 🤣
I'd love to see the lockout, A. I have one and B. a lot of places still have both constant and lockout.. I was wondering if because my clamps are so thick that when I string the first two mains on a lockout if I'm getting a lot more tension loss in the beginning considering the starting clamp and stringing clamp cannot be in the way of the first two pulls? if that makes sense I can't butt the clamps together so one of them always has to be at least 1" away from the frame to allow the first or second pull of the mains.. I thought about replacing my clamps with thinner ones but the alpha lockout machine clamps are still decent just bulking especially in the beginning. edit: before I saw your video I thought about increasing the tension on the first two pulls until the clamps got out of the way but what I don't want to do is cause more issues of inconsistency.. my string jobs come off the stringer good but I've noticed the center mains some times feel loose, I also always go up on tension for the last two and always string 2 piece (Yonex style).
Aloha, You're officially the fifth person to request Episode 2 starring the lockout machine! Sorry to hear about your dilemma, but it sounds like you're doing the best you can with what you have. Thanks for watching! 🤙
The point I took from here is if you’re using a cheap gamma drop weight with those fat clamps, go up about 3lbs if you wanna hit the actually tension you’re selecting.
Aloha, It would be great if you could measure the string tension readings of the drop weight machine (with floating clamps I assume) and compare it to a lockout or constant pull machine with fixed clamps. Then you can adjust accordingly. However, you would need to have access to both machines, and you can use a free (phone app) string tension device called RacquetTune. Also, you would need to take the readings right after the racquet comes off the machine. If this is not feasible, then 3 lbs is better than nothing. 🤙
Thanks for your videos that are based on facts. There are so many bad stringing videos out there. I'm an MRT but primarily string badminton racquets now. It blows my mind that this video (ruclips.net/video/-MTbk_1ahuU/видео.html) has over 3M views, yet has so many bad techniques in it. The clamps are at least an inch away from where they need to be when doing the mains. Keep up the good work!!
Aloha Brian, Thanks for watching and for sharing the video. 🙈 Now it has 1 more view! 🤣 Well, at least the stringer is somewhat consistent with his clamping distance. I don't string badminton racquets and I noticed he installed the crosses bottom-up. Is that a "badminton thing" or just a "bad technique thing?" 🤙
@@AMstringing Ha ha. Good observation. Yes, crosses bottom up is another badminton thing. Two piece stringing and crosses backwards. Lots of little nuances with badminton.
Nice experiment.
