Plot twist: she likes roast duck and goose
She handled this in such a kind and tactful way. She didn't make him feel wrong or awkward just relieved.
Book version of rhaenyra implied he was a pedophile cause he was gay, so maybe not a perfect little angel, yeah?
@@wyattbequette3596 I don't believe anyone is a perfect angel.
@@wyattbequette3596Yes, but the book proves itself time and again to have an unreliable, biased narrator -- particularly when you compare the voice of Fire and Blood to any books in the ASOIAF series. Rhaenyra could well have implied Laenor was a paedophile because the narrator, Mushroom, believes gay men to be paedophiles, and chose to use Rhaenyra as his spokeswoman.
@@rachelfox8108 why would he, though? Her making the pedo comment is perfectly acceptable by westerosi standards, hell it's probably encouraged. Why would someone lie to make rhaenyra look better after she lost the war?

Show canon took the most uncharitable depiction of the greens possible while making TB look as amazing and justified as they can. Aegon attending fighting pits and raping people is also a wild claim by mushroom, one which is EVEN LESS likely than the pedo joke considering mushroom was hundreds of miles away in a different court at the time. The show also invents a prophecy out of thin air that justifies every bad thing TB could ever do because "muh greater hood prophecy" and ruined Rhaenys with... well honestly with all of her dialogue since all of it is total garbage.

@@hottea9826 Her duty was to provide heirs fathered by Leanor. She failed.
I love how for a moment Laenor looks relieved. Rhaneyra was his safe place
And then she makes out with Mysaria.
I know they gave the cheating spouse aspect to Rhaenyra instead of Daemon here as opposed to in the book because that's gotta make it more plausible when Mysaria lies about Daemon's intentions and actions - because Rhaenyra would trust Mysaria after being fooled by her
And also, to crap less on Daemon because the show made him seem less grey and more just straight up a villain (Which really is odd - because they have Aemond for that).
But then I remember scenes like this where she seemed convinced she's straight. But then again she said "prefer", and not "I only dine on Roast Duck". Then again, she expressed Laenor's preferences with a similar description.
Are the writers contradicting themselves here to make what's about to happen in later seasons plausible (Spoilers, Mysaria succeeds in breaking up Daemyra), and cut Daemon, who was depicted as very horrible, some slack (And make *his* later actions also seem plausible).
I loved this moment and how Rhaenyra never judged Laenor or blamed him for not producing a legitimate heir. They really did love and care about each other❤

By definition a legitimate heir on the standards of the universe the show takes place in is a trueborn son, that is a child fathered by the husband of the mother who was born while said father and mother were married. If those conditions do not apply, then they're bastards, illegitimate children, the content of the blood is irrelevant as to that status.
Now, the king CAN legitimize bastards, in which case they earn the right to bear the corresponding house name that belongs to their father and they enter the line of succession that corresponds to both lines, if the mother is to inherit or already possesses something to pass on, but it would require acknowledging the bastard in the first place, which in the case of Rhaenyra's children cannot be since they always claimed they were trueborn in the first place. Part of the fun part of the story is the fact that detractors of Rhaenyra ARE correct in pointing out her birthing bastards and trying to pass them off as legitimate, but the debate is as to whether such a thing should matter in the first place and the fact that the people criticizing her are no better on many other fields. She's not perfect, but neither are her enemies, and she's certainly more sympathetic than Aegon.

And only seen Lions on Lannister Sigils
House Cargyll(the house that the twins were from)have a goose in their sigil. There is also someone called "Duckfield" in the books(I believe he was a Bastard of house Caswell). So both of those animals then are canon and they exist in Westeros.

Royal marriages should be like this, the two parties should have an understanding and work together, their union is important for the whole realm
They usually are.
This is a luxury that most political unions cannot afford. ESPECIALLY in a feudal society. But in a much more modern setting, I completely agree.
@@Brit626 Except in a modern setting, their union ISN'T important. "Royal" has no meaning or significance outside of fiction. They aren't divinely chosen, as royal blood implies. They're just filthy apes like the rest of us, just born into positions of ridiculous wealth and privilege. So who they marry/fuck doesn't matter at all in a modern setting.
Until the partner comes out and says they played second fiddle in the hearts of their partners and it was never love. The public goes up in anger and abuses the other even though they already made an agreement and stuck to the rules
And yet she shat on it with her strong boys
There was more love between them than most married couples, then or now. Even if it wasn’t romantic, they loved and respected each other and he was a good man to her and her kids. I’m glad he was given freedom to live his life although she suffered so much because of the secrets they kept. I know there was a lot of mutual love and respect between them. She handled this very tactfully and with a lot of class. It could’ve been so much worse for the both of them.
It is good for a novel, but so unrealistic. Given what was at stake, a real life Leanor HAD to produce at least a legitimate firstborn. From that point on "each of us dines as we see fit".

This kind of an understanding and respectful relationship is a million times better than most romantic couples who "fall in love" then "fall out of love" as fast.
a fake relationship is better than a sincere one? nope.
@@scottmatheson3346 It was a fake romantic relationship but a true friendship. They clearly had a deep bond full of trust and understanding.
First, not all or even "most" romantic couples fall apart so easily as you say.... Second, you can't compare different kinds of love/relationship aka friendship (which they had) vs romantic love. Nothing is better or worse here, just different things
I loved them and although their love was platonic it was sweet.
I think people are missing the point that Rhaenyra and Laenor did sleep together a few times. Rhaenerya says it explicitly twice in episode 7. Theu just couldn't conceive. Laenor may have been infertile. He did perform. However, Rhaenyra loved him enough not to make him continue.
She also fell in love with Harwin along the way. A 10 year monogamous relationship is a long time. She also seems to need a connection with someone to be with them. As little as we saw of it, I loved the Rhaenyra/Laenor/Harwin family dynamic.
Stop blaming Laenor for Rhaenyra’s fuck up. You see here she said they must perform their duties to their fathers. They didn’t do it and she produced bastards.

There’s a lot of people who don’t realize that Rhaenyra having Laenor’s children would have changed almost nothing about the story.
Really??? Westeros compels the illegitimate to cement their status with regional names like Snow, Sand, Stone, etc. Rhaenyra mothering clearly Valyrian blooded heirs would have cemented her place as an act second only to staying on the small council would have done. If Rhaenyra's children were Leonors, then Alicent would have strongly considered a Jacearys/Helena betrothal, which would have been healthier and maintained the bloodline/dragon lineage.
If jacerys was leanor biological son then alicent would have agreed to rhaenyra proposal that haelaena married jacerys bc alicent only rejected this proposal bc jacerys true background and she didn't want to dishonour her daughter by making her daughter marry clearly a bastard and if jacerys ascension was disputed bc he's a bastards then she would be putting her duaghter and the children from the marriage which would alicent grandchildren in danger and dishonoured. So if the boys were leanor biological children then the dance wouldn't have happened bc otto wouldn't be able to manipulate alicent to put aegon on the throne bc he wouldn't have strong arguments agasint rhaenyra but bc rhaenyra did mother three obvious bastards that allowed otto to manipulate everyone to his side. This deal that rhaenyra made in the clip is basically the reason why she dies, If she wasn't this stupid and tried more times to mother children from leanor or simply not even try with leanor and try to secretly murder him, that way house velaryon would still be allied to House targaryen and rhaenyra would just wait until the right time to marry daemon and then have her heirs but she went through the stupid route that eventually got her killed and destroyed most of dragons and ruined the power and influence of house targaryen.
Agreed. In the end Rheanyra birthed three legitimate heirs which should have had greater claim than alicents children and yet a war was still started. 🤷🏽♀️ Alicent just used Jace and Luke’s illegitimacy to make her feel better about her choices which in fact she was betraying the King and the law.
@@rw7567 which could have been avoided had rhaenyra not slept with anyone other than laenor or try with daemon to ensure the kids have valyrian features, it would have been harder for alicent to try to usurp the throne and she most likely would have supported rhaenyra and betrothed haelaena to jacerys. Rhaenyra poor decision destroyed house targaryen, she was a spoiled brat bc her dad didn't really raise her, so ultimately viserys destroyed house targaryen which is ironic bc he wanted the house of dragon United but he made one terrible decision and ended the power and influence of his house.
@@muqki2178 huh? What sauce are you on. Alicent stopped supporting Rhaenyra the moment she found out about Sir Chrispin (spelling intended). If she had supported Rheanyra she would have went to her about what she was hearing. Instead, she kept Sir Crispin as her own personal spy and protector. From that moment on, her allegiance is highly questionable!
Its things like this that really show that familial bond. This sounds exactly how cousins would talk out of the presence of their parents incest a side.

So sad they couldn’t have kids. Laenor should’ve brought a guy to bed to help him get hard so he could get Rhanerya pregnant. Like what Margery suggested to Renly that she bring Loras to help Renly get hard so he could get Margery pregnant.
He would have done just that, and the man who would have been trusted enough by Rhanerya to discreetly fulfil that role was killed at her wedding party by Ser Criston Cole.
@@RoverCaptain You ain’t wrong
Well that's up to interpretation I suppose. Because I understood Rhaenyra's statement of "we did our duty" to mean that they did have sex, on a few occasions, but nothing ever came of it.
Given how understanding Rhaenyra is about it, and the deal she brokered, chances are they might have brought someone in, or did something to help get Laenor in the mood, we just never saw their attempts so we'll never know.
Margery was ride or die in that regard. A shame she was never queen
