What a terrible fate for this dog untill now. It needs a change to make him feel better. Does not matter what has happend, to hit another person or animal will never bring a better own situation. Rage does not go away by acting out. It gets away through humor and lovely relationships. Bring the fun back in your life, use humor as your coping strategy and things will become better. Violence against the weakest or others will never bring you better life.
