Great video, snake and all. People may not understand, or just do not know, the cost of repairs on a boat. Having a sponsor or getting a product as a gift, which you have always made an informed mention of, must be a God send. Your cost for a car, housing, food and all the other things are such a major guiding factor on what you will do next or if you can do it. FYI, they do make a snake chaser that vibrates in the ground, also used for moles too. But snakes are always around a good food source, mice, rats and large insects. Thanks John

it's not the shrubbery and brush that you need to worry about for the snakes.. it's anything laying on the ground that they might crawl under as a protected hidey holey to take a nap. Clearing the brush will help keep them from coming in, as they'll seek the "more protected" route to get to a hiding place. get things up off the ground by a good clearance, and the snakes will move elsewhere.

Fun video. Snakes are numerous in Florida. The long thin black snake was an Eastern Indio. Non poisonous non aggressive Florida native that eat lots of bugs small lizards, and occasionally a mouse. Their only negative startling people. Hope you enjoy this project as much as I do watching. I miss the heck out of Florida. That was just a gardener snake (they eat bugs) they're completely harmless and slither away at the site of humans. They have a really shiny look about them when they're in the sun. The Diamondbacks are more aggressive and stubborn and are usually found coiled up and they will bite if you step on them. It's good you're keeping the area clear of debris and you're keeping the grounds visible. I would try to keep the area as Sandy as possible.

The older Hunters main weekness was they used steel in the keel which would leak over time and rust .. but sailing seabird have been restoring an older one in Marseille they bought for Euro ...full of water and 🦟 ... They did over time sort them out and that looks like a later boat.

He was checking you to see who is disturbing his cafeteria. They are not venomous but do bite if mishandled. They grow to 5ft or so and move like lightening. One patrols our backyard and has been no trouble at all.

Gday Mads - a couple of things. When I built a foam Newick trimaran it had heaps of internal coving and fairing. At first I had lots of trouble with fairing boards digging into the coves or radiii. Then I started putting paper about 1/3 of the way BACK from the leading edge of the flexible sanding blocks/fairing boards. So no paper on the front of the board and only on the aft 2/3rds. What this did was it made the board change shape without digging the front edge into the cove. I still use this technique any time I do internal coves/fillets/fairing.
On another note, a mate who makes his money using Alex seal to roll people's boats does not use their primer. Alex seal is awfully expensive so he just uses normal industrial epoxy high build and then Alex Seal over the top of that. He has done many jobs and there have been no bonding issues and he LOVES Alex Seal.

    @bdphourde 24 дня назад +3

Mads, You have the Midas Touch! You have a developed ability to take time and money and convert it into beautiful boats! The more time and the more money; the more beautiful is the boat! Going catamaran was a surprise to me, but it's just a personal preference. If you are caught in a storm at sea, you will always remember that upright is only the second most stable position for a catamaran. And furling the sails may have no effect on hull stability. But you could coastal cruise the American Continents for 10 years and never be out of sight of land or out of range of safe harbors. By then you could have 2 little DIY apprentices of your own!
Invest in one of those 2L thermos mugs and fill with ice water and drink from it regularly to replace that lost sweat. It should be popular in the deep south.
I started watching Bryan Sailing to learn of the history of the boat. I'm partial to him, not only for our common name, but for his sense of humor. He seemed to be fairly meticulous in renovating those engines!

I’ve been doing body work on boats professionally for about 18 years. Inside corners where three body lines intersect are the worst, but I’ve found Kutzall Sphere Rotary Burrs are a great starting point to get those corners initially cut down. There’s always going to be finish sanding afterwards, but those circular rotary burrs definitely help!

Snakes get a bad rap that they really don't deserve. The one you saw is likely a Black Racer and they are your friends - they eat small rodents and lizards. Now that you have cleared the high weeds it will probably avoid the area under the boat because they don't like being exposed and it's harder to hunt for food.
By the way, Black Racers are not poisonous and have tiny little teeth that won't penetrate your skin even if it needed to bite you. They typically won't try to bite you unless it is spring time when it is mating season and they have no choice. The worst part about Black Racers is they whip their tails to warn you they are there and it can be a little startling. Just stop moving for a moment and then take a single slow step away, it will see you are respecting its space and are not a threat. They are pretty smart and in time you may even become friends!

It’s really unfortunate that Gulfstars as a whole are considered lower build quality. Gulfstars in the 80’s have exceptional quality and performance. Solid layup hulls encapsulated keels etc. fast blue water cruisers with Bahamas friendly draft. We have an 81 44 sloop that we prefer over pretty much anything available.
I do all of my own work so I very much enjoy watching your channel. Keep up the spiffy work!

    Progress.
It will be really nice to get the workspace cleaned up. I don't know how people can work even halfway efficiently and without stress in total chaos like that. It brings me back to my army days where us soldiers don't get to make a nice clean orderly combat zone in which to engage the enemy. Not fun. Short of that I like to have a nice clean workplace that doesn't cause me PTSD issues when trying to work. All boatwork is always cramped even with all the junk moved out of the way and that can be bad enough in the cleanest and most organized boat.
Getting the weeds knocked back is a huge improvement. Just watching you work in that jungle gave me the squiggies. Lions and tigers and snakes -oh my!

Not taking on more then 4 projects simultaneously and cleaning up and putting all your tools back in their place at the end of the day is the best indicator for getting the job done in the end.

You are in Florida. Snakes can be anywhere both safe and fairly docile to poisonous. That being said bites are fairly rare if you leave then alone. You have to be sure to not leave them hiding spaces in your work area and you wont be bothered with them.

6:03 - I grew up in South Florida from 77-90 and when we first moved there we did not have any AC. I was a little kid and my mom would put us to bed every night with a wet washcloth on our foreheads so we could sleep. But we did have a massive mango tree that we climbed in and grabbed fresh mangos every day ;)

Hope you choose a potential sponsor carefully, particularly if it's for anything more than a handful of videos. Sail Life has an brilliant brand, the work you achieve is perfection, your explanations are excellent, Ava's history/tour etc, contributions are wonderfully researched and put together. I wonder if you have done some calcualations on the project value of your working hours say just for Athena. There's a lot of elements in there once you moved aboard and started sailing.
