- This is a beautiful, if scratchy video of BKS Iyengar, made when he was at his prime in 1977 when he was only 59!
Go to 12 minutes into the video where Iyengar is practicing with a small advanced class. An incredible Vinyasa with transitions from Ardho Mukha Svanasana straight to Bakasana.
Then there is that individual practice of balancing poses from Sirsasana II which is still taught in Calgary by Norman Sjoman. who studied with Iyengar in the 1960's before Guruji became famous.

Before yoga was taught as a weight loss "get a hot yoga body" workout. There was this. So much healthier for body, mind and spirit.

This is the yoga I’m learning from 4 years with my teacher Javier Willensky in Om yoga Garden studio Miami ( Omehaye ) .He is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher with many years of experience. I have solved many of my back and feet issues . Im 56 years old and I feel better than ever thanks to everything I learn from him . I continue learning and hope to get better everyday.

I remember this great Hatha Yoga Teacher of all time...in the 1970's we used to as a group of Yoga student used to attend his classes... But, unfortunately in the 70's he wasn't allowed to come to South Africa...We would have to meet him in Botswana, Seychelles, or Mauritius. But it's was absolutely worth it, what a humble man...and in his humbleness he became World famous...he could really put his teachings across... There not many teachers in any form today, who can do that...he not only taught U as a students, he would literally become U...and do the postures with U...along side U...He strict...but in a loving way...Hahaha LuvU... Master...

This marvellous documentary is directed by India's master craftsman Prof John Sankaramangalm, who was Former Director of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. Presently he is in Kerala, active in teaching cinema. Let this be a homage to our Master Guru.

BKS Iyengar has been the illuminating light of Contemporary Yoga in the West today and all who love yoga owe him a great debt. I enjoyed watching him in this video and am inspired by his practice.

I've only had about 15 yoga classes, but doesn't it sometimes lessen the benefit of each pose to run though them at lightening speed, the way they're done in this video. I would not have control over my breathing at that speed. Beyond that, I acknowledge the great service Iyengar did to the world by bringing yoga to the West and the masses. The mastery he has over his body is astounding. Maybe I just prefer yoga at a slower speed because I am a beginner, but this speed would make me feel very nervous and not rejuvenated.

Guru Brahma ,guru Vishnu ,guru devo maheshwaraye....it means guru is god because guru correct our mistakes and makes us perfect...teacher (guru)helps students by giving his knowledge....
And there is om chanting in middle of video...om is a sacred word in Hinduism...it is called that in space om sounds everywhere

Yes, Iyengar was an example and teacher of refined yogic FORM! Of course, form is important in spiritual practices that involve the body/movement. Alas, form can sometimes override awareness and integration of the "formless" and Iyegnar is an example of that extreme as well. Learn Iyegnar's emphasis on body alignment and balance, its great stuff. However, do not be seduced into only one teacher/style or you might miss the vast depth of this tradition! I did see some depth in an interview with Iyegnar once. He said, "Your own conscience is the only true religion." RIP Iyegnar.
