- I've been lucky enough to have been over this famous old pass numerous times, each time as spectacular as the last, in any weather conditions. Here is the crossing from the Applecross side in it's entirety, sped up to fit into just over 6 minutes.
Bealach na Bà is a historic pass through the mountains of the Applecross peninsula, in Wester Ross in the Scottish Highlands-and the name of a famous twisting, single-track mountain road through the pass and mountains. The song is 'A knife in the ocean' by 'Foals'. I own no rights for this music and it is solely for entertainment.
The road is one of few in the Scottish Highlands that is engineered similarly to roads through the great mountain passes in the Alps, with very tight hairpin bends that switch back and forth up the hillside and gradients that approach 20%. It boasts the greatest ascent of any road climb in the UK, rising from sea level at Applecross to 626 metres (2,054 ft), and is the third highest road in Scotland.
The name is Gaelic for Pass of the Cattle, Scottish Gaelic: Bealach na Bà, as it was historically used as a drovers' road.

Was staying near Applecross inthe 1990s and did this road a number of times, a breathtaking ride, incredible views to the outer Hebrides from the top ... must go back sometime .... hopefully the vertigo won’t kick in!
Did this Pass 3 times in a day on my GS1200 Adventure back in 2017 as the Applecross Stores were closed when we arrived - BUMMER - Not!!! It is an INCREDIBLE piece of road. For anyone watching this and contemplating doing the same, at the end of the road towards the end of the video, if you turn right at the junction that road is also pretty spectacular with some high-speed sweeping bends - lovely.

Not just what's in front of you. But what's around you. It's a truly beautiful road. But mostly for all the things that forward sight will never capture.

On a boat trip from Plockton our skipper pointed out this road which I looked up on the internet and found this fantastic video and soundtrack. One to add to my bucket list.

We drove the 500 in early May, this road was my favorite! And not too much traffic.
Rode this yesterday 16th July, couldn't see ten meters due to cloud, great video to see what I missed!

Drove on 15 August 2019. We reached just before sunset. It was windy and cloudy . Definitely not safe at night .
Spectacular drive, but no where near as scary as the hard Knott pass in the lakes which perhaps should be closed to traffic.

you need to drive this pass 3 times a week for 6 months before you can pass any comments i live on applecross just dont be an idiot and try to cross it with a twin wheel motorhome as some have found out to thier costs use your noggin for gods sake and read the road in front of you if you are nervous dont attempt it either
Would have been better in real time.
Used to be a nice drive, full of cars these days unfortunately.
