I bought a 1989 model new with MTS stereo and second audio switch. It didn't give me a lick of trouble in the many years I had it. "The quality goes in before the name goes on!"
Nice old Zenith set made back when the Zenith name ment the quality goes in before the name gose on. The last time i had a set with a bad cap it took out the flyback. Lucky i was able to get a replacement one thow. These video did showed me that i need to redo the gray scale on my 13" MGA set from 1985. As I tryed without fully knowing what todo.It has a very sharp and bright image but the gray scale is off as the picture is green tinted.
I had this same set back in the late 90s.The flyback failed on mine and I had so many other sets I didn't want to spend the money at the time for a new sweep board so I parted it out lol.
That's a nice picture considering the crt isn't perfect. We had a freeview box in the uk, but new tv sets have it internally. New tv sets have it inside now. That zenith could have a box fitted inside. I hope you and your other half are healthy and happy.
There is a vertical height adjustment, but it is buried. I would use a non metallic tool to adjust. Horizontal is fixed, but you might be able to lower the b+ in the power supply regulation a bit to lessen the width. Zeniths are famous for horizontal overscan
@@JordanPier Thanks for the quick response. Would the potentiometer be like the RGB adjustments in your video or more like a small recessed one that fits a small flathead. I’ve found 6 adjustments so far inside the case on the main board. All but 1 are the small colored hex ones.
@@JordanPier I found the right adjustment. I really appreciate your advice. I’m new to tinkering with CRTs and the info out there is limited so it’s nice finding someone like you who has the knowledge and is willing to share.
I think its partially due to the optional "anti-glare" glass you could fit in it. It was smoked glass, which had you wearing out the CRT faster cranking up the brightness.
Will still outlast most of today's modern flat screen cheapy crap. I've seen more of those at the curb for pickup, than garbage itself. 😄 [ Edit ] Btw, the older cathode ray tube TVs are high in demand by gamers, because of their faster refresh rate... Gamer's Choice. 📺👌

I Think Goldstar (LG) were balls deep in them by that time. They really did a number on a once great company.

Awesome video. Is there a way to adjust vertical and horizontal? I have a 1985 SB1927w that needs a slight adjustment otherwise it’s perfect.

@@jacobmusgrove701 majority controls are hex based on these sets, though certain sizes of screwdriver will fit. A plastic tool is the safest bet.

This set has an odd-looking CRT bezel for Zenith's of this era in my opinion.

It'll get there eventually. When the flyback dies or the CRT fails it'll end up there. For now It'll live on and get some more use out of it
