    I am preparing myself to change my shock today. Your video is very helpful. Thx. Cheers.

    I've done something stupid without thinking it through . I took the bleed Alan screw off the preload adjuster and what looks like fork fluid came out as the shock spring pushed the preload in . I've compressed the spring again but how do I get the oil back in now the preload piston is at its softest setting inside the preload housing . 2019 vstrom 1000 the same shock as your white on in the video . do you have a video showing this ??

      I haven't messed with the newer model reservoir, only first gen1000. call Jay at Sasquatch Suspensions 1-208-631-0520 he may be able to help.

      Thanks for the advice . I got InTouch with the Suzuki dealer I bought it from and he told me it was still under warranty . he was happy to change the adjuster even when I had messed with it . "its not worth the labour charge , Ill just get you a new one " he said . Great customer service . thanks again for the reply

    Answered a question i had.... The Racetech site actually recommends a large alloy spacer as well as those 2 tin units. And when my suspension guy installed the spring he didn't use that one as he said there was only 2 to 3mm difference in the free length of the stock and replacement springs. That collar would be about 5/16" thick. I get the feeling it might be meant for the earlier DL shock maybe ?

      When I ordered mine I don't remember there being a alloy spacer mentioned.
      Maybe something new?

    I'm a big guy (~275lb), just got an '09 VStrom 650. This has me thinking (thanks a lot!). How did this change the ride for you? I think I'm bottoming out the rear suspension, and my back is getting little beat up...

      Just got back from a 2700 mile ride and the spring was fantastic, I'm trying to find time to do an update video about the spring.

      @Jooeffoh 3 года назад +1

      There's no way you would bottom out that shock at 275. I was around 240 pounds clothed in the past and had a passenger on that was around 170 and all I had to do was bump the preload up 2 or 3 notches from its usual 3rd from bottom. The ride was perfect and I almost forgot that somebody was on the bike with me it handled so well.

      @@Jooeffoh That's awesome. Could you tell me how I could adjust the preload "up"? Do I turn it out to decrease, or in to increase? Also, do you know what size tool to use for this? My bike came with an aftermarket shock and no suspension wrench; there isn't even the preload adjuster knob on the right side like stock. Thanks.

    Brother, congratulations!!!
    Have you ever changed the spark plugs or the gas filter inside the tank?

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  4 года назад

      I haven't changed either one of those, I'll probably change the plugs when I do the valve adjustment.

    Hi, may I know the reason you had selected 650lbs spring rate? Are you always solo riding? I'm most time solo commuting but occasionally 2 up for touring and will go with panniers n top box. Any advice for the spring rate selection

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  Год назад

      That was the heaviest spring I could use without having to revalve the rebound in the shock.

    • @yeoweikian6650
      @yeoweikian6650 Год назад

      @V-Strom Garage thanks for the reply. I'm thinking of replacing it with 750lbs spring. But I will do the same as you what you are having to avoid revalving. Between how many collars do we need from racetech? Racetech shows that we do need 3 types of collars. Namely each of these B5855N, B5552N and P575012.

      @@yeoweikian6650 Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, I was in the middle of the ocean. Yes, I believe those are the parts you will need. The spring I chose works well for me, it's not too stiff yet the bike feels planted in tight cornering, even when I'm loaded for a long trip. When loaded up with me and all of my cases and bags I'm probably pushing around 350lbs. At that weight I crank the preload down about three lines on the shock. When riding without a load I back off the preload.

    hi! i have a question. Whit your experience, do you think can i put a monoshock of the vstrom 1000 2014 in to a vstrom 650? the preload regulator its
    definitively diferent, but i think that if they are the same size if it could fit fine........ sorry for my bad english :)

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  3 года назад

      That, I am not sure of. I haven't heard of anyone doing that, but not sure if anyone has tried.

    Hi from the UK, I measure out at 5, 8 29 inside leg, but I weigh in at 18 stone, so I was going to fit the lowering kit so I can touch the floor, so will this also alter the spring or the ride.

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  2 года назад

      It shouldn't affect any of that, the only thing you may notice is that the steering may be slower turning into corners. Loosening the triple trees and Lowering the front 10mm will get some of that back.

    Excellent work my friend, how many increased in relation to the height, or only increased the compression of the spring, thanks hugs.

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  4 года назад

      Mostly just the compression of the spring, it may increase the height very slightly, just because it doesn't sag as much. I had to put the rebound at full hard to compensate for the heavier spring, otherwise it would be like a pogo stick.

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  4 года назад +2

      Miles don't matter, if you think you need a heavier spring just go for it! Race Tech has a spring calculator on their web site, but for my weight it showed a heavier spring than what I got. With the stock shock I don't think I would go heavier than the 650 lbs./in. that I used, the rebound couldn't handle it.

    The stock suspension is fine by me because I don't weigh much.Many of these changes are I think unnecesary & can create negatives with5 the positives.But good video about mechanics on the strom.
