Rannick's sketchy sometimes, but most Inquisitorial agents in his spot would seem it. Trusting him or not doesn't change that Grandfather doesn't need the bodies.
The thing that really gets me about Rannick is the role reversal he seems to be pulling on Zola. Traditionally, Interrogators are known to be overly zealous in all of their business because they know the eyes of the Inquisition are constantly upon them, judging harshly if they can make the cut as Inquisitor or not. For Grendyl specifically to have want Wolfer brought in to be interrogated, that tells us bringing high profile Moebian traitors in alive is likely a very high priority. For Rannick to tell us rejects that NEITHER Karnak twin is to be brought in alive, admonish Zola for carrying out a mission to do so, and then chastise her for zealotry is very strange. It seems far more in line with an Interrogator character to be on board with her strategy. Especially when you consider that in the Orthus Offensive, after facing Rodin alone for the first time, Zola and Rannick argue about the potential cost of bringing one of them in. Zola retorts, "Grendyl gave me a free hand." Rannick doesn't argue against this or tell her she's wrong/lying, he side steps it and ignores it. If Grendyl did NOT give her a free hand, Rannick would have surely called her out on that. So Zola is effective and knowledgeable enough to be given a free hand to bring in high value targets, but Rannick seems to be outright sabotaging her.
I mean daemons proper are kinda an infohazard. Sometimes just knowing that they exist can drive you mad, and/or get you executed for heresy (also, see what the Grey Knights do to civilian survivors). I think Rannick might have actually had our (and Zola's) best interests at heart here...
