New York and outside New York like Newark has had Nigerian restaurants for years nothing new about this. Also, DC area has so many Nigerians and Nigerian restaurants.
Not Nigerian but have lived there off and on for 30 years. The problem with Nigerian food is that true authentic dishes are eaten by hand on a large platter divided into sections. Americans are picky and want everything to look and taste Westernized so in order for these foods to appeal to us it would need to be reinvented heavily, which takes away the true culture and traditions. It's colonization through the culinary experience
Actually, Americans are quite adventurous culinarily. From the SouthEast to the Northwest and everything in between, we make, eat and celebrate foods from virtually every major culture on this planet. Please stop the false narrative that all we eat is French fries, burgers and pizza because you saw it on tv. Americans are much more nuanced than that. #meltingpot

I am from SEA so i experience it myself just in the cultural differences living in the USA. Though i will say i much prefer westernized indian foods to authentic indian food, thats just my preference.

I've seen Nigerian food prepared on Instagram. The amount of food per person is large while the ones cooked here are small.
Westerners eat smaller portions of 3 or more courses. We typically just have one big plate.
