  • Join me as I try out the USS Coolbaugh in War Thunder! This top tier destroyer should be a force to be reckoned with in coastal battles. However, this is far from the case in my humble opinion Watch as I seek and destroy the enemy in intense naval combat.

    LOL I didn't even consider the shell cost! Once again, the solution is to re-merge the trees or keep what we have and separate the matchmaking + backfill with bots. Even without foldering, you could fit 15 coastal vessels into rank I and players who want to play the big ships can blitz through them in a few matches. There's no reason not to configure the tech trees like every other tree with multiple lines and put coastals at the bottom, except to make coastals more expensive in the hopes of getting more money.

      @@Thelogboss Agreed. People say "the armor will protect you" but facing guided munitions at all is quite annoying. Even if you wanted to dodge, you can't because all the other guy has to do is follow you with his mouse. Plus, Bravy and Douglas have proven that even SAMs can cripple you since they're mostly fighting unarmored targets.

    It's the speed that justifies a 3.7 br
    Anyone who reaches stop tier coastal boat is an experienced enough player to make something like this work
    But moving takes time and no amount of skill can help u if u can't make it somewhere in time
    And there is zero way this thing can beat Ayanami or even the two current variant and it's probably equal to the single turret Japanese one at 3.3
    The only situation where this beats those ships hands down is if ur in a plane and catch them by surprise. Those other ships have to plan several seconds ahead to switch to hevt so that they can mount a solid defense but this has automated defenses AND can switch rounds much faster

    G'day Tyrael,
    I've said for a long time but the "coastal" TT is basically Bluewater+ due the substantial amount of ocean going warships placed in it but in basically pre 2.01 costs set to the extreme (I missed when the Chidori class was only 120k rp for example, SKR Project 50 also used to only be 60k rp in the old tree.
    The economy is just terrible especially ammunition basically be pre 2.01 costs for ammunition.
    On the "Bright" side at least the USS Coolbaugh DE-217 has a bloody GFCS as modelled unlike the poxy USS Dealey DE-1006 which came last update an still hasn't received it yet (if anyone sees a Dealey ranting about GFCS while swearing like a drunk aussie, It's most likely me).
    Hmm 240k to go in this DDE or around 24 good matches.
    On a sidenote the French Destroyer Guichen D607 is impressive although you cannot fire both cannons types under one binding but the swedish 57 mm are mean at tearing apart gun emplacements, Had this been soviet EVERYONE would be complaining lol, Damm now I want a late Project 56 or the Project 57A heh for the sixteen 57 mm in four ZIF-75 mounts armed with APHE lol.

      Unfortunately the match after I was set upon by a match with eight Kerch bots, so those bastards are back (I know I'll probably get chat banned by the wolfman for it by I made a chat room mentioning those bots are back in the main message section in the hangar).
      As such fair seas an be careful of the botting menace at 3.3, Sidenote Berring Sea might be the most chaotic cqc small craft map now you you see it in 4.3 MTB's & Corvettes.

    My opinion is Frigates spawning with destroyers, though i understand why they do, and why they should, it does not really have a bearing on current war thunder game play. In actuality it is a death sentence for all of them to spawn there. The best answer they could come up with is to make them spawn between destroyers and coastal but not directly with either. Will they do it... NO, and for that reason it ruins every frigate and some of the sub chasers in this game which is a shame because there is some good ones.

    • @CmdrTyrael
      @CmdrTyrael  3 месяца назад +2

      Or even pushing the DD's out with the heavy fleet in those BR's with Frigates.
      Most DD are fast, perhaps that would allow more time for ambush setting and frigate wars.

  • @Omega_Mark
    @Omega_Mark 3 месяца назад +3

    Does it have destroyer spawn like SKR or just normal coastal? Btw, SKR ships got nerfed with less HE damage (looks like all the HE shells got stealth dialed back incrementally) and they quickly run out of the ready rack ammo and then are painfully slow with a single reload. What's really stupid, you can either use HE or HE-VT only and still run out of the other ammo from the ready rack. If you used HE only until your ready rack is empty, you also run out of HE-VT at the same time (even though you didn't use it at all). It doesn't make any sense. Once you get the long reload, your reload timer glitches out. It's very annoying. With all that nerf, they are still 4.3 and still with the destroyer spawn.
    In all honesty, I would like to have an option to research coastal with blue water ships, as we have helicopters with tanks. I rarely touch coastal these days, as it's too painful to research and spade them most of the time (compression, constant uptiers and all).

    • @CmdrTyrael
      @CmdrTyrael  3 месяца назад +2

      Yeah it seems to be a fleet wide "tune" of the HE... again.
      Coolbaugh has the DD spawn like SKR. Which means trying to crawl to safety in an uptier.
      I'm not sure how the logic of the ready rack works. Like you said it doesn't matter which shell you use.

    • @TheAnnoyingF2P
      @TheAnnoyingF2P 3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, setting cross research doesn't solve the problem of the grind to spade coastal vessels. I'm more interested in that than researching new ones.

    • @Omega_Mark
      @Omega_Mark 3 месяца назад +1

      @@TheAnnoyingF2P My US blue water tt is all researched (Soviet just 1 ship left, German pretty much too), but top tier is not spaded, as there is no point losing RP for researched module levels. I still play BP dailies with US destroyers and SL boosters, as I got Ace crew on the Moffett for free and it prints SLs. There is nothing for me to research and we still don't have the promised RP discounts for other nations, so a lot of my RP gets lost. At least coastal research would negate some of the suck of lost RP.
      Some of the new Naval trees I barely touch, as they are not that populated and gj will still add more units. I don't want to research backwards. I play Japanese with RP boosters, so can buy a bunch of ships in November on sale (there are top 4 US waiting for a purchase as well).
      I will play coastal here and there, but not planning a dedicated grind at this stage. I don't even know how much more I will play next year when my premium account expires (BP tasks are too tedious and annoying after almost 4 years).

    • @Omega_Mark
      @Omega_Mark 3 месяца назад +2

      @@CmdrTyrael I see you do more videos on other games. Are you burned out with WT? Do you still do any of the BPs? I'm kinda burned out myself and tend to do some tasks every other day or so. Not very motivated to start rerolling and paying SL to change these tasks and still pay for the BP every 3 months. I really wish there was just certain amount of damage required to do each day (like that one task that I rarely get), so I can go and play the game the way I want without jumping through all the same annoying hoops for almost 4 years now. My premium account is expiring in about 7 months and I don't plan to buy more, so will be more selective with my gameplay. Probably just do the ship events and maybe some BP here and there, if there is something that interests me. Even now I don't want to waste my summer to sit at the computer and grind some stupid pixels.

    • @TheAnnoyingF2P
      @TheAnnoyingF2P 3 месяца назад +2

      @@Omega_Mark Yeah, I've had the entire US bluewater TT unlocked and nearly spaded for ages now but I can't stand the standard battleships enough to spade those because of the DPM vs RP mod cost. I keep hoping for the day that the DMs or matchmaking changes to a point where I could tolerate them at least. I've largely since given up on grinding high tiers in other nations - bluewater or coastal - but especially coastal. At a certain point you need the SKR and Pr.206 just to survive and it's not fun to get there. I too have resorted to 4.7 US destroyers just for event grinding even if I don't get any research benefit out of it, simply because they're the most efficient.
      BP tasks are awful. I've only ever bought like 2 BPs and only grind them otherwise if the free reward is something I need (like the IL-8 and Homare 23). It's a scam designed to weaponize FOMO and frustrate people into forking over more cash for mediocre vehicles. The warbonds have some cool stuff but all of it can be bought for much cheaper on sale than the time cost you have to put in.
      Oh and by the way, you absolutely don't have to lose RP for researched module tiers. You "spade" the vessel right up to the point that you have one mod left in each tier, then finish the grind after a new vehicle comes out in that tree. The RP bonus is only applied once the whole tier is researched, so you can use that offset the insane RP costs of new top tiers.

    The biggest problem with coastal vessals is that they are costal vessels. If naval is severely underplayed costal is the true black sheep of war thunder. Why is it that 3.3 and 4.0 costal vessels cost just as much as 6.3 and 7.0 BATTLESHIPS? It’s just another example of the oppressive grind in the game, perhaps even the best example.
