- This is a Motormouth couple car video covering all the announcements from the 2024 CES in Las Vegas. Kia had an entire connected home build on-site with a Kia EV9 capable of powering the house, plus an EV6 showing the vehicle to load capabilities of todays modern electric cars.
Kia is pushing the boundaries with design and sustainability; they have two award winning models already the EV6 and EV9 and they just unveiled two concept electric vehicles the EV3 and EV4 at a Kia connected house built for CES.
We are not able to get inside these vehicles as they are concepts but take a look at the exterior. Specs on these models have not been released. The exhibit features a futuristic Kia connected home which showcases the Concepts along with EV6 and EV9 production models. There’s also an EV9 driving technology simulation, a 10 must-have sustainable items exhibition, Vehicle-to-Home power supply and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) camping demonstration in real life scenarios.
The EV9 has the capability of supporting vehicle to home backup power in some scenarios. The vision for EV9's vehicle to home capability is to deliver power back to the home when plugged in and a power outage occurs. For properly equipped homes the EV9 can reverse its energy flow from the vehicle to your home powering a variety of devices and appliances.
Kia also unveils five new purpose built vehicles. These customized vehicles and solutions will enhance versatility and open up limitless possibilities for businesses and individuals. Imagine a taxi during the day to a delivery van at night and a personal recreational vehicle on the weekends. This will all be possible and rolled out in three phases with phase one seeing the introduction of the Kia PV5. A versatile EV optimized for ride hailing, delivery and utilities that features conversion capability. This all-new FWD modular vehicle will enter mass production in 2025 in Korea and should hit North America by 2026. It will have an estimated starting price of $35,000 USD.
The second phase will launch the PV7 in 2027, it will have a FWD and AWD option and will be larger, offer more range and interior space than the PV5. This phase also launches the PV1, the smallest vehicle in the lineup optimized for short distances.
The third phase opens the door to completely new lifestyles by creating a PBV ecosystem based on the Hyundai Motor Goups future technologies for autonomous driving, advanced air mobility, robotics and the energy grid. This is the stage where you can completely change your vehicle to meet your different needs from day to night. Kia says it's primary mission is to ensure that the PBVs are simple and intuitive to operate. The exhibition at CES has the theme 'Place of Inspiration'. It highlights multiple applications and benefits of Kia’s PBV technology. The display features five PBV concept vehicles including three variations of the Concepts PV5, PV7 and PV1.

What? No love for her husband? 😂
Loving the idea of a campervan module and passenger van module!
Hello Zack and Andrea, another great segment. The Korean brands continue to pump out great innovations. Way more than some other boring brands. Keep up the great work!!
Reminds me when Chrysler came out with the minivan, it is so innovative!
Wow!! This is crazy exciting!!!!
EV3 - city driving
EV9 - ski trip/ weekend get away
PV9 - week long camping trip!!
For us!!!
Bring it!!!
Hoping the EV2 comes to Canada with an LFP battery.
Not until at least 2025.
enjoy $60,000 battery replacement.
@@tocreatee5736pocket change for me. I pay more on property taxes. So there!
I've had my EV6 for nearly two years now and am still enjoying the heck out of it. However, I'd only recommending leasing one for now until Hyundai/Kia incorporates the NACS connector and the vehicles (re)qualify for the EV tax credit.
Holding my breeeaaattthhh….. NOW. 😊 Yeah, these are a few things in the Cons column.
I could be wrong, but isn’t there SOME tax credit for leasing?
I did see some pretty good deals on ‘23 EV6’s when the ‘24s were coming out, but without the tax credit, it’s hard to beat Tesla’s prices. Personally, I still think 50-65k (market price) is too much for me.
@@DurfDiggler Too much for the majority of Americans who need to be their target market.

Very innovating for sure, cheers V!
Thanks a lot for your videos and informations , this new KIA modular vehicle is awesome idea and unique as far as I know hope to know the details and price soon
Great design. Way to go KIA! 👍
Kia leading the way with cool innovations
NICE that Kia was nice enough to invite you to their site after the issue with the battery. Like it.
Both Zack & Andrea mentioned "Korea" in this video, however KIA is headquartered in South Korea which (as you know) is not politically or otherwise affiliated with Kim Jong Un's North Korea dictatorship. Incidentally, KIA has been manufacturing vehicles at its 2,200 acre plant in West Point, Georgia since 2009. KMMG vehicles currently produced for the North American market include EV9, K5, Telluride, Sorento and Sportage.
No body would think it is North Korea.😅😅
Kia, Hyundai, Tesla, Rivian and Volvo are the only companies (with a current North American presence) I trust are truly interested in having EV's as a large part of their portfolio. I could imagine other brands dropping them completely over the next few years.
Why would that be?
@@vancity2349 They don't seem to really be that interested in them to begin with and it's a competitive space.
Sales volume and the profile of their target customer demographic.
@@chrisfabre23 Exactly. General lack of interest as well.
@@chrisfabre23 So lack of interest?
GM and other legacy brands spend millions on advertising every year to keep the low sales they have
These are quite nice vehicles especially the truck but it’s hard to get excited for them when the key Hyundai/KIA battery repair issue isn’t properly addressed yet
We had a good talk with Kia Canada about this on the trip and their batteries can be repaired which will definitely keep the costs down. It is not a viable option at this time for Hyundai EV models. Hopefully in the future.
@@andreaspencer9813 thanks for advocating. This is exactly what I meant - still not properly addressed
@@GR-cd2kx How isn’t it properly addressed? Kia said they can fix damaged batteries while Hyundai cannot. If Kia can do it, and other makers can, so can Hyundai.
Kia / Hyundai need to transparently state exact full cost for replacement battery upfront. Instead vague “can be repaired “. Can’t see why anyone would purchase following the $60k Hyundai replacement battery fiasco…..
@@simonwood5587 It’s not Hyundai or Kia that determines the cost. They can only specify how much the battery cost to the dealer that is doing the replacement. It’s in Motormouth’s video. The dealer then marks up the part. What any company can do is store the replacement in their own warehouse until it’s needed instead of at the dealer. Dealers have inventory storage and financing costs when handling parts.
Wow, Kia is full speed ahead, likely beat Canoe to the EV business delivery vehicles and a lot more versatile! I still loving my 2020 Soul EV Limited our runabout with almost 100K KM and no real issues!
Wish the pv5 size is similar to transit connect, spacious but easy to manuever around and park in cities
Impressed. Totally untapped market. Bravo. Motormouth team, very sorry about your dog. I just found out.
Thank you very much!
How much to replace the batteries if the battery cover gets scratched? Asking for a friend.
These are questions we need to put forth to all manufacturers. We had a good talk with Kia Canada about this on the trip and their batteries can be repaired which will definitely keep the costs down. It is not a viable option at this time for Hyundai EV models. Hopefully in the future.
Hehe...great question! My "friend" told me that he had to pay $60,000 CAD (~$45,000 USD) to get his IONIQ battery replaced because of a small scuff on the battery plate. Man, EV's surely are the future, eh?? I'm sure we all can't wait to get one for our driveway.
Wow. How awesome! Was KIA the only car company at the CES?
What was the size of that EV3? Bigger than the Volvo EX30? I heard Q4 for the EV5 in Canada and Mexico.
Kia didn't release any measurements. Maybe similar to the EX30.
@@andreaspencer9813 interesting. I just saw the EX30 in person and thought it was really small. Too small for people needing to drive around a family. But I think the EV3 and EX30 look great. I suppose it will be great for a single person.
When EV's can charge to FULL in 5 minutes - I'm IN! (maybe...)
When EV's can cost $25,000 for a nicely-equipped midsize - I'm IN! (maybe...)
When EV's can get a FULL 400-500 mile range in Canadian winters - I'm IN! (maybe...)
Hmmm, I can see a comparison test of EV vehicles to see which one is the best backup generator for your home. 🙂
Such BS thinking this is even a thing.
No thanks on full EV until better battery tech is here
Looks like the Canoo vehicles.
I really like my Kia Optima gas-powered car! Not an electric car fan with all the problems, fires, lack of infrastructure, etc.The problem is the same as some other brands are dealing with the private owned dealership! Screw you over and no customer service, just out to make money and not use your warranty. London Ontario Kia quoted $500 for a battery saying it's special because of the electronics on the vehicle. I went to Canadian Tire, and yes certain battery for it, but $230 for it with 5 year warranty and dealership was 1 year. Just one example. So the bad dealership is the reason I won't buy my next Kia. Cheers guy's I really enjoy your videos.
@@Motormouth.__ OK
Good for you taking the initiative to look for a better option than what the dealer offered you. Your gain, their loss.
There are good & bad Kia dealerships. Like any & all private businesses that sell major brands there are some who are just in in it max profit and there are some who are in it to make a profit while treating their customers well. In a free market / entrepreneur culture, all business owners deserve to make a profit & pay their staff a living wage. Their customers are free to accept their price and service or reject it and look for similar services elsewhere. This is far superior to a Socialist / Marxist culture where you have not options for goods and services.
I am on my 2nd Niro (both relatively trouble free) from separate Kia dealers. Other than sticking an anti-theft device on each car presale, the dealers (and their shops) have been fair & square. The anti-theft add ons are negotiable, if you don't want it you can say no the price or you can walk away. Just like you did with battery. That is how things should work in a free market culture.
More gas cars by Kia were catching fire than EVs.
Ideal for pizza deliveries & uber transport . (Local only) (very local)
I can see the PV5 or PV7 being outfitted into a shaggin wagon.
Awesome! I had never see a changeable vehicle. It’s going to be interesting in the future. Only question is where the battery sits? 👍🏻👍🏻
they showed it.. its always on the bottom like a skateboard. The changeable part has no battery, the main PV is always connected to the battery.
Only if you buy it!
Go Kia!
I think the modular system will work as well for Kia as it did for the US Navy's Littoral Combat Ships. (They're being retired early.)
You’re comparing the US government/military known widely for their inefficiency and incompetence to a private company whose sole existence is to make money and has been one of the big success stories in automotive manufacturing? lol
How much are the battery replacements?
We had a good talk with Kia Canada about this on the trip and their batteries can be repaired which will definitely keep the costs down. It is not a viable option at this time for Hyundai EV models. Hopefully in the future.
Andrea, maybe I'm missing (misunderstanding) something but is Kia saying their current batteries can be repaired while Hyundai's cannot? I thought the Ionic 5, EV6 and the Genesis GV60 were essentially the same vehicle mechanically. Thanks.
@Robert-jl7pf That is correct. Kia tells us they have different processes in place and EV technicians at this time. Hyundai and Kia are two separate companies.
@@Robert-jl7pf My Kia dealer said the same thing. Their technicians know how to diagnose and swap out bad cells. He actually encouraged me to bring the car in just before the warrantee ends for a diagnosis and warrantee claim. However, I doubt I would do so. I usually get a new car every 6-8 years. We'll see...
Nice designs make them ice vehicles and have Toyota engineer and build them for kia
They make nice vehicles and I love that they innovate. Can’t wait to see what Hyundai keeps coming out with also
Agreed 👍
what's the list price for the replacement KIA batteries? Thanks! :)
We had a good talk with Kia Canada about this on the trip and their batteries can be repaired which will definitely keep the costs down. It is not a viable option at this time for Hyundai EV models. Hopefully in the future. If batteries can be repaired which will vary from brand to brand, it will depend on the impact to the battery. Each situation will be different. High battery costs are not unique to only Hyundai and Kia. Whether batteries can be repaired instead of replaced will make a big difference in pricing for the repair.
Nice kia
A & Z, I Believe the PV-5 & PV-7 Will Skyrocket within the Small Business Market 😮😊!!
Discussion 🧐?
PV concepts are nice, but will be impractical to change out the rear sections. How much are the lifts to make it happen?
And where you store the rear sections? lol
Nice ideas, Kia. It ain’t happening though.
Maybe in a warehouse if you own a business? Not sure about the consumers, though.
I like the concept EVs they showed, so futuristic compared to the hatchback my family had in the 90's, I can stil remember those wooden panels
It’s nice that Kia is showing these vehicles of the future. Meanwhile, Stellantis is pulling out of auto shows. So is Stellantis serious about the future?
Kia would be better off putting all of this on hold & going with a direct sales model like Tesla.
Would be great if you could share new tech seen at CES that can be adapted to all current vehicles already on our roads that can improve or make our transportation experience more enjoyable at a reasonable cost.
Thanks.
Not sold on Evs just yet, sorry. ICEs all the way!
Trade shows are dying, including CES
Still a fan of Kia but until that whole EV battery issue of replacement cost gets resolved it would be a lease for an EV.
Gas over flash
I’ll pass on this one, I don’t want to pay twice for the same car if the battery goes bad....
The red EV6 looks good…….the rest are kind of 🥱
I would like to see more EV cars as opposed to SUVs. But that EV4 doesn't do it for me. I've seen better renders that evolve the EV6 design language with the Stinger body style that look MUCH better. The EV4 is just awkwardly proportioned kinda like an SUV trying to be a sedan. Even if they took the Ioniq 6 and used KIAs EV6s current design language might be nicer.
Wonder what their batteries will cost to replace?
if they werent catching fire and didnt have terrible dealership stories, I would actually love to get a Kia EV. For now, I will have to wait.
Nice pipe dream but probably never be in existence or affordable to anyone other Musk, Warren Buffet and the like
In the US EV's with rebates are in they are mid $25,000 cheaper than a Honda civic. They will come down in price here too just a matter of time....
I would hesitate before buying any Hyundai/Kia EV after watching all the report's of poor customer treatment on the EV battery reports that premiered on your Social Media first! As well, I would not purchase long term any model with the 1.6 turbo, or 2.0l naturally aspirated GDI engine for long term due to their high oil consumption that the corporation does not stand by their warranty after. I would be comfortable leasing on the other hand, and respecting to the letter, the intervals of oil changes.
I choose none!
Keep It Away

Wow kia wonderful 😍
Most people aren't sold on ev's !!! There are too many variables and problems !!! For myself, I won't be interested until charging becomes more reliable and faster. There's no way I'm waiting around for 20 to 40 minutes when I can gas up in 4 to 6 minutes . Not even talking about inferstructer issues.
Is there a difference between being in sin and being out if line? ... You're telling me that when I'm not walking in my purpose I'm in sin ... yikes
No one mentions anything about the grid. This EV thing is dead IMO. No one is buying evs. We arent even set up for this and wont be for many many years
Again, such uninformed foolish comments. The US is experiencing record EV sales, never been higher. The Model Y is the is the best selling car in the world. As for the grid, go watch a video on the youtube channel State of Charge. There are interviews with engineers from the two biggest electricity users in the states, NY and California. They are more than ready for the EV transition. Best to rely on professionals for facts....
Right you are. “Electrification Impact Study,” City of Palo Alto:
If all garage owners use home chargers, it will necessitate massive upgrades to residential electric networks. Otherwise, as one study showed, “more than 95 percent of residential transformers would be overloaded,” meaning that they fail or can blow up. Estimates for CPAU staff to upgrade poll mt'd transformers, $7,390; pad mt'd, $19,712; vault mt'd, $22,5121.
Even if an EV is fueled at night, when there’s less demand on the grid, the air-cooled transformers (on the local utility poles) can remain overheated after sunrise, when normal residential peak loads begin to heat them up further, thus still increasing the prospects for daytime overload failures, even using off-peak charging.
They will have issues passing the crash tests. Don't see these PV vehicles as being practical.
What sort of an idiot would buy an EV knowing the battery replacement cost is the price of the car itself and the battery warranty can be voided from a very minor impact? Lithium batteries are not the answer!

We had a good talk with Kia Canada about this on the trip and their batteries can be repaired which will definitely keep the costs down. It is not a viable option at this time for Hyundai EV models. I don’t drive enough to take on the huge expense of battery replacement down the road. Cars aren’t investments, they are depreciating assets. I buy them used and keep them many years so a used EV would be a terrible purchase, especially a Korean vehicle.
EVERY EV on the market is a scam.
Such a stupid comment, why are they a scam?
@@vancity2349 Stupid is buying one. They are a scam because they are grossly overpriced, too short a range, too long to charge, and do not even get the range that the manufacturer says they will. In fact, every manufacturer suggest that you do not fully charge them or deplete the battery on a regular basis. That is a scam, and it looks like you have been suckered into it.
