Janko, you are aware that You DON"T have to push your car all the time 100% ? Do they teach You this in Sweden? You have for example variable throttle position, not only ON or OFF. You know that, correct?
Asking because I don't understand what is wrong having good audio system in a car. You can use it, You don't have to.
It is not like You are Lewis Hamilton fighting for glory and World Championship in this car. It is really possible to connect both worlds and not calling people who can do it of fools...

I believe Jerry Seinfeld was on the same page as you in his comment from my video when I explained why I turned down an allocation. His comment: "I own a 917 and drive it slowly around the track because I am not a fool" something like that. Link to the video below:
      ruclips.net/video/snq7bnfbiXc/видео.html
But you need to understand that the "old" GT3, 991.2 was fun to drive in a slow speed. The 992 GT3 IS NOT. You need to push it to feel the connection to the road.
When it comes to the Bose, the noise level in a GT3 is, as it should, laud, and as a consequence, you don't get any use for the system, not to mention the extra weight.
There are many Porsche religions out there, and mine is not perfect. But adding deviated stitching and BOSE in a GT3 regardless if it is a Touring or a Club Sport, for me, that is like cursing in church.

I was a bit confused with your conclusion. so.... this is a fast car. its for the track. but its not for the road? and its too fast? but its the best car? but not for everyone? I guess I was hoping for a bit more detail around what makes it special, fast, or who its for. Either way, thanks for the video

Stop whining about how capable the car is and it’s only for race car drivers it’s a car that most of us will not even get to see and if I had the chance to own one I would even though it is above my ability it’s an iconic car that we may never see built again and I would love to have one!

I have heard poeple say they wouldn't want to be perfect(a fairly close 992.1 GT3), because they enjoy imperfection and struggle(992 Carrara S), when they haven't experienced it yet(Janko Lind's tunnel vision has deprived him of happiness and fulfillment, even when HE says, HE is THE connoisseur of driving dynamics(in video and in the comments). Reminds me of part of the Corvette community that defends transverse leafsprings as great, with no need for improvement, despite me explaining what crosstalk is. Yes justifying McPherson struts over double wishbones is not to the same dregree as justifying transverse leafsprings over coilovers, as both are done for cost cuting, but the mindset is the same). Having an intense guilt complex that you have to be at least a 9 out 10 driver to be allowed to enjoy a 9 out of 10 car, is not mentally healthy, as long as you can afford to buy a 992.1 GT3 and you will learn to be a good driver or already are, that's good enough. It's not the same a ruining a reproductive partner's offspring because of your lesser genetics and or parenting skills, it's not taking advantage of someone financially. If only 1 out 100 are as good of a driver as Janko Lind then he is not depriving a 9+ out 10 driver from owning a 9 out of 10 car and with Janko Lind's attitude anything more than a Toyota GR-86 would not see the light of day because it wouldn't be financially worth investing money in by manufacturers(if only 1 out of 1000 992.1 GT3 owners were eligible to own one, using his "Top Level" Racecar Drivers that he named as worthy owners analogy, the drivers who could get 99.9% out of a 992.1 GT3) and cause for a greatly reduced factory support for racing.

Janko, You are correct that Porsche have always described the GT3 as a track car which you can also drive on the road. As you say, for most people a GTS or Turbo is a much better choice for everyday use, weekend fun drives and as a GT to drive to the Mediterranean. The Turbo, of course, has far more BHP than the GT3 but is much easier to drive well.
What you have forgotten is that there are three distinct GT3 models. The Touring, the Clubsport and the Komfort. All can be optioned as Leicht models.
The car you drove unfortunately was a Clubsport with contradictory heavy luxury options (full leather, extra stitching, Bose etc) and I'm sure that your roadtest views would be very different had you driven a car to the option specification I chose which changes the car's character from a rich mans vanity purchase into more of an everyday and GT car.
My option specification is solid white, half black leather, no option stitching, no Bose, no sport Chrono, no 918 seats, no PDK, no PCCB etc. This totally changes the character of the car and reveals a softer, more accessible and relaxed personality which allows the driver to enjoy the vastly improved steering, cornering and braking compared to the 991 GT3s.
Manufacturers understandably offer press cars to create an impact and most younger drivers these days seem to only want to use launch control in a straight line as they have never leant to progressively control 500BHP in the corners as we did.
My first 911 had 165BHP, my second 195BHP and incrementally over 25 X 911s and more than 40yrs I arrived at my 25th and last 911. I regret very much that the younger generation will not have the fun, our generation has had, as we learnt to drive properly on less congested roads...

We all have our own Porsche religion, ordering a 993 GT3 without buckets is very far from my religion. In my religion, you should have bout a 992 Turbo or a GTS. Consider them when you change your car next time.

Janko Lind H Jankovic, No! We will have to agree to disagree!! Why would anyone (other than millionaires) buy a car that was unsuitable to drive every day? Surely as enthusiasts we want to drive our car everyday? The standard GT3, without a heavy half cage, but with the standard seats is lighter than the Clubsport, has more usable luggage space behind the front seats, the seats are far more comfortable and they recline to sleep on long road trips. Porsche is very clever with the options they offer to turn the standard car into either a Clubsport or a Touring, which really ought to be re-named a Stealth. The standard model is misunderstood by most people sadly. I agree that the Turbo S, Turbo and GTS are easier cars to drive for the majority but neither have the naturally aspirated engine, 6 speed gearbox and 385kg of down force. If you take up your GT3 allocation offer, you will find the standard car a very rewarding everyday driver on country roads and autobahns. But whichever GT3 model is chosen, whichever options, a GT challenges and rewards the driver unlike any other car in the range!

My favourite GT3 review on youtube! Based on your concept of the GT3 and how racecar-like it needs to be in terms of luxuries, I cannot imagine your unhappiness with the GT3 touring LOL

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  2 года назад +2

The biggest problem I have with the GT3 Touring is the name. It is NOT a touring. It is sprung out from the Porsche 911 R, where Porsche engineers focused on getting rid of as many things in the car. Less is much more in a GT3.

A nice video, Janko, as always. Thank you. But you are taking things too seriously and over complicate the ownership experience. It is just a nice and not very expensive car which you can tailor a bit to your personal taste, nothing more, nothing else. It is not a EUR2-3mm hypercar or some classic collectible. It is not a GT3 Cup car which comes at EUR250k without deviated stitching, but with a racing team to take care of. It is NOT a track car. Caterham is. Ariel is. GT3 Cup is. Not this one. Enjoy it, drive it, track it if you like, feel free and happy driving it to the restaurant, date, business meeting, across Europe or to a local coffee shop. That’s the true ownership experience, Bose or no Bose.

I have a manual 992 GTS in shark blue with gloss black Aerokit and CCBs (a GT3 lookalike..) coming in February and I think it's all the 911 I'll ever want or need. Well I am confused on your review. Yes the GT3 is a track car, but it is also a Grand Tourer (GT!) first, so some luxuries are worth having. I plan to use it as my daily and go to the track 4-8 times per year. So in my opinion, a Manual is better (PDK is good for the track) for my country driving ( live in the twisty hills, so for me it is ideal). And I like to listen to some good driving music (plus engine). So each to their own but I think you were being a bit harsh. Oh, and I do have a turbo for sundays and GT4 for fun.
PS, many of the comments you make would be suited to a GT3RS, and not the GT3. Imo

Another well reasoned review Janko. As an owner of a few 911's, I agree with your points.
I can drive my 87 Carrera at 100% on the roads safely, no problem, my 98 993 probably knocks me back to 80% - but my 2018 GT3 Touring
is another universe. I am guessing maybe I can safely reach 50-60% of it's capabilities? As you said, it is also an unbelievable machine that encourages you to push harder and harder - Scary! The GT3 has become an RS - track only.

@@mrconde9526 Yep, the gearing is a bit long but in practice it’s not really a problem given the torque on tap. Owners of GT4s and Spyders are all pretty much OK with the gearing and it’s only reviewers who grumble about it. A much bigger issue is the way the exhaust flaps operate so fitting a valve controller (or disabling the valves altogether) is a must.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres would have less grip, a softer ride, less flat cornering, creating a slower, less serious, driving experience(even more so with a manual transmission). This wouldn't make a 992.1 GT3 Touring into a 992.1 Carrara S but might be worth trying if Touring is your thing. Also one more step would be to get aftermarket 20x9 and 20x11.5 wheels with 245/40r20 and 305/35r20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres and as a added bonus 5mm more front ground clearance(traction control still works with a 10mm diameter increase for the front tyres while the rear tyre diameter goes down 1mm).

Frankly, I think there is such a nice niche available for the GT3 touring, but porsche made the mistake of not softening it, adding noise insulation and back seats on that version of the car. I can totally get what you're saying about the cars ability and the average driver, but who would not want to get their arse in the seat of one and experience what Porsche motorsport can do? I understand too the Bose stereo gripe, high noise levels in the car renders paying the extra for it pointless. Great video as always, I really enjoyed the facial expressions you were pulling when pushing on, it was visible you were excited and scared at the same time. Thanks Janko.

No, it does not, the speed dose. A mediocre driver will be MUCH faster in the GT3 regardless of knowledge. To connect with the car you need to stay above 150 km/h and I'm driving on public roads wish makes the car useless.

Great review! The performance of some of these "road cars" are so high, there is very little chance to use much of this performance on the road :/. It is not just the legal limits, it is the design of the roads, the safety of the driver, other road users, and pedestrians. Would like a 911 with that GT3 sound but half the speed!

always entertaining and interesting perspective Janko...love the GT3 for the purity of what it represents-Most Type A personalities (at least this guy) are generally drawn to the most badass engineered product/experience available. I don't need one, but I sure want one so bless Andreas and the GT division for always raising the bar. However, I likely will order the GTS instead due to how I intend to use the car. We are all different so thank you Porsche for all the great products to choose from for all us petrolheads.

Thanks, Roger, not sure I'm an expert Roger. We all have our own religions and there is nothing right or wrong. I drive too fast in a 992 GT3 and under 150 km/h it is a boring car, and I believe you know what I'm talking about since you are one lucky owner. But on the track OMG 😳

Nice video Janko. However, I disagree with several of your points. The 991 GT3's (as per your arguments) seem to be a better "normal guy" car and therefore their values will undoubtedly go up. Many modern cars have proven that "faster, sharper, "better"" does not always add up to more fun. The other point you make on the "deviated stitching, Bose system, etc" I believe are also invalid. One of the best features of a 911 (especially the GT3) is that you can take it to the track (awesome weapon) and later on that night, take your girl to dinner in a nice ride. This duality is exactly what makes these cars so special. Still, a good video, but be more tolerant of the people who use these vehicles for ALL what they were intended to achieve.

    • @02hreblue30

only one that will really go up in value is the LAST NA GT3. This actually may be it. They have been claiming such since the beginning of 991. Not as pretty as the 991

I get your stance on the GT3 Touring. I feel like the GT3 Touring is a good car in its own right, but it should not have the "GT3" name.
The Carrera GTS seems like a pointless car to me because it is not much different than a Carrera S. If I was running things at Porsche I would get rid of the current Carrera GTS, and then just name the GT3 Touring as the Carrera GTS. That way people can get the engine and performance of the GT3 while having the comforts of a Carrera

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  3 года назад +1

You have a point, skip the chassis and just fit a NA engine to a stock Carrera. I agree.

My understanding is all these 992 variants have the engine sound piped in via the speakers and hence synthetic, but still nice cleverly supplemented by induction noise, which I think is real,, and that’s what made the difference.. The slightly firmer ride and nervous front end won’t appeal to many drivers because as a road car which it is… principally Porsche might have over stepped the mark for many GT3 owners. That’s what the RS was for. Time will tell when the hype dies down, social media hypes so many things today.. look at the GR Yaris totally over sold. … that’s not saying either are bad cars just over cooked.

Not a good review. I think values of 991.2 gt3 prices seem to be holding up pretty well, particularly as you can’t get a 992 gt3 and there is £100 k difference between used values. I agree the pdk is probably the way to go, but the argument of not having air conditioning or Bose to save weight when it’s used on the road for fun and engagement not completion lap times is ridiculous.

Shitting on people based on subjective opinion is a risky move, I understand it is your opinion, but what value do you bring to the table expressing it? I will understand if you were trying to make an impact by expressing your opinion, but non is to be made by poking fun of people specing a car to express themselves and then shitting on their form of expression. Makes absolutely no sense, then you apologize for offending people? Stick to your gun and do not apologize or don't say anything at all.
